Odysseus is a hero because he cares about his men. Odysseus begged the Cyclops to put one of his men down and drink the wine he has. Odysseus sometimes doesn’t care about his but at times he does. Odysseus stabbed Cyclops eye and Cyclops got mad and moved the stone

Odysseus is a hero because he does things for other people. During his journey, Odysseus does many things to help his crew out. One example on how he helped his crew out is in book 9, “I shot back with my crafty way, ‘My ship? Poseidon god of the earthquake smashed my ship, drove it against the rocks at your island’s far cape…”(220, 318-320). This quote is from the part of the book where they get past the cyclops.

One big reason I believe Odysseus is not a hero is his actions. While he was on his journey back home to Ithaca, he showed a sense of entitlement. This shows how the way he treats others like his own crewmembers. In book 9 Odysseus blinded the Cyclops and he says his true identity, which leads to many hardships for him and his crewmembers. “Cyclops, you asked my name, and I will tell you: give me afterwards a guest gift as you promised" (book 9).

Not everyone is perfect. Even the Gods have flaws. Odysseus, as he is shown by Homer is a epic hero, but as it appears to evidence in the book and movie the real hero is Penelope.

Odysseus is a hero because he has been trying to protect his crew, and he loves and protects his family. He protects his crew through many bad events that happen in the story, after all the whole odyssey is based on Odysseus trying to get home to his loved ones. Next paragraph will show the reader exactly why Odysseus is heroic. On page 115 as they are venturing by the Sirens, Odysseus is commanded to put wax in his crew members ears.

Is Odysseus truly a hero worth celebrating, or is there more to his story than meets the eye? Odysseus displays bravery and resourcefulness throughout his journey, facing numerous obstacles and still preserving. His cunning tactics, like the Trojan Horse, showcase his strategic thinking and ability to outsmart his enemies. Throughout the story, Odysseus shows loyalty to his crew and his homeland, always striving to return to them. For these reasons, Odysseus is considered an excellent hero.

In the story The Odyssey the main character Odysseus is not a true hero. A man with so much hatred and anger should not be someone to hold to a high prestige, or want to be. The needless killing and disrespect to other people 's wishes is not part of what a hero should be, or is to endanger the people that he is in charge of. This is why odysseus is not a true hero.

Odysseus is a hero because he sacrifices himself many times to save his men. He put his life on the line for his men. For example, he stabbed the cyclops in the eye so they could escape. He also was thinking ahead and told the cyclops that his name was Nobhdy. He uses his cunning brain and good looks to get them out of situations. For example, he used his brain and looks when he offered to sleep with Circe in order for his men to rest. He did this because he knew his men needed to take a break and Circe hated them, so he helped them out and himself) by sleeping with Circe, something was in it for him too. In book 12 of The Odyssey by Homer Odysseus is portrayed as a hero. In the story he is told by Circe that he will find an island with many cattle. She also states that if him or his men eat these cattle he will only return to Ithaca after all his men die. Odysseus warns his men of this and says “Each one of you must take a solemn oath that if  he meet with a herd of cattle or a large flock of sheep, he will not be so mad as to kill a single head either, but will be satisfied with the food that Circe has given us.” Odysseus is a hero because he is able to resist the temptation of killing the cows because he knows it is best for everyone. What makes a man a hero? Is it their motives, their actions? Does a person have to be a stereotypically “good guy” to be a hero? In The Odyssey, the main character Odysseus makes many debatable choices. Some may consider him a hero, some may think of him as a man with no morals. At the end of his story, he arrives back home at Ithaca. His actions display that he is just another man, and is certainly no hero.

In The Odyssey, Homer was a good hero, but what makes him a good hero? In the poem, The Odyssey, the Greek poet Homer demonstrates he was a good hero in multiple ways. Odysseus went to thirteen different places on his journey, but his goal was to get back to Ithaca. The Odyssey took place in 650 B.C. and Odysseus had plenty of wars that he didn’t let influence his plan. In the poem, Homer went to fight the Trojans and his intention was just to go home, but the Cyclops, lotus flowers, and extensive other obstacles persuade in his way. Odysseus showed he was smart, a risk-taker, and loyal to his men and people, which is what made him a good hero.

Merriam-Webster defines a hero as, “A person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” For Odysseus to be a hero this definition is supposed to fit and describe him and his character, but why does this definition not describe or fit him and his character? This is because Odysseus is not a hero. Odysseus has done unethical things on his journey that makes him a person that should go unadmired. For example, when Odysseus ignored the death of his man in order to make more progress on his journey since he claims a task was pressing and waited for the Cyclops in order to be offered more gifts (his men die as a result), these examples prove he is a person who does unethical things. Odysseus is not a hero because he is disloyal, selfish, and greedy.

How Odysseus Is A True Hero Can you imagine not seeing your spouse and newborn baby for 20 years to go to war and then have to go against Gods where your chance of survival is zero? In Homer’s timeless epic, The Odyssey, Odysseus of Ithaca goes to fight in the war of troy for 10 years. As he tries to make his journey home he makes the god Poseidon, the god of the sea, mad and he throws odysseus off course making odysseus stop at dangerous places one of the places he has to stop at is Polyphemus the son of Poseidon, who happens to be a cyclops, but because of Poseidon and Calypso, who holds Odysseus for a couple of years, and other gods and goddesses he doesn’t see his family for 20 years only Athena and Zeus aid him in his journey home.
