We have an environmental responsibility as humans. Getting to live on earth is a privilege and we are responsible for keeping our planet clean. We are also responsible for preserving the planet and its resources for as long as possible. As we take the resources given to us, it is our duty to help out where we live and give back to the environment in return. To help keep the planet in great shape consists of some easy tasks that anyone could do, and even the smallest thing could help impact the environment in a positive way. There are many ways in which we can help out our environment, and the most common would be recycling. It is great to recycle so that plastics and other recyclable material can be reused to make a new product. Today now …show more content…
One of the more horrific times of the year for ocean pollution I would have to say, is spring break. Many pictures have been shown of trash covering the ground on beaches and if the trash is not picked up, it will get taken by the ocean. Although, this is not the only place that ocean pollution comes from. Chemicals will runoff from other sources and into the water and pollute it. About water pollution, noaa.gov states, “One of the biggest sources is called nonpoint source pollution, which occurs as a result of runoff” (Ocean Pollution”). Having many chemicals being dispersed into the water is very bad for marine life. Not only does it hurt the animals, but it also hurts us. Chemicals contribute to destroying marine habitats which will cause the animals in that habitat to most likely die. It also contributes to contaminating seafood. If fish, and other food, are swimming around in polluted water, there is a good chance that some of them will become contaminated and not edible. Trash from everyday life also effects many aquatic animals. Things like bottles, bags, cans, and plastics left on the beach can harm the animals. Aquatic animals will mistake the trash in the water as food and they will eat it causing them harm and possibly death. However there are things that we can do to help clean up what we contributed
How can we help the environment? As we all know our environment hasn’t been at its best lately because of all the disasters that have been occurring around the world which have affected it tremendously for many years to come. The negative impact will continue to increase if people don’t make a change. In the year of 2017 the website ‘isidewith’ noted the most important environmental issues that has occurred were, “climate change, alternative energy, oil drilling, fracking, plastic product ban, etc”.
What are we doing to our environment? This is a question many people have asked but never quite been able to answer in the fullest way. How do we find out the answer then you ask? By multiple sources. There’s the ‘scare’ tactic, saying what could happen in the future if we don’t change our ways. There’s the ‘inspirational’ tactic which spreads the word of all good that we can, should, or maybe even have done to our environment. And last but not least, the ‘fiction transformation’ tactic which turns something that we would read ourselves or maybe to our children to open up our eyes of what’s going on. Why is this important to even know? Many different ‘eco enthusiasts’ express their research on the environment, this general tactic is called ecocriticism. Ecocriticism is where authors analyze texts that embellish environmental concerns and study the various
Have you ever wondered what is life like without plastic? Today, all around the world ocean pollution is still active. The community is trying to figure out a great solution to stop ocean pollution. Most of the time no one knows that he or she usually uses water for everything in beverages and food . Well, it seems like when people drink water it's like they’re actually drinking the ocean . People pass by around places that he or she never been to ,could possibly have dangerous things in our waters. There’s a reason why people has to be careful with water. Water doesn't have to be wasted it's basically one of nature's important resource. This research paper will talk about the past solutions that prevent ocean pollution.
One way I do this that comes easy to me, is through community service. Volunteering is my attempt to make a difference within my community. Being a leader and role model is especially important when it comes to treating the world around us as the important and beautiful place that it is. That is exactly why I spend my Saturdays teaching five-year-olds about skates and hermit crabs. In hope that they will take what they learn and become environmentally conscience. They’ll think about the spider crabs and seahorses before they litter, or the sea robins before they pollute. This is my own simple way of being an environmental
The Ocean is full of beautiful and amazing sea life. Unfortunately, humans are polluting the water, which is negatively affecting the Ocean's inhabitants. One major problem facing sea mammals, such as whales and dolphins, is entanglement. Fishing nets, packing strips, and plastic bags are just some of the sources that trap and entangle them, which can cause them to drown. A report done by World Wildlife Fund-U.S. estimates that fishing nets kill around 1,000 marine mammals each day (Owen 2005). Our plastic trash often ends up on beaches and in the ocean, and marine life can mistake it for food. Ingesting plastic frequently kills them. Seagulls, sea lions, and dolphins are some of the most common victims of plastic ingestion. Another pollution
Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct. People seem to think that since the ocean is so large and vast, we can dump as much waste as we'd like into it and it will never have an effect on us. However, since we've been polluting the ocean as far back as Roman times, the evidence of ocean pollution becoming a major problem is all too clear.
A. Ocean pollution, also known as Marine pollution is the negative effects caused by chemicals, industrial, agricultural, or residence waste, entering the ocean.
Right now there is way too much pollution in the oceans. Fish population is going down, coral reefs are dying and the oceans are becoming unswimmable. Too much trash is being dumped into the oceans. 8 million pounds of trash is dumped into the ocean each year.
The sun sets on the port communities and the sky glows orange yellow purple and blue, not the beautiful sun set that is causing this it’s the disgusting pollution in the ports is a massive issue effecting every port and surrounding community. From the first ships that set sail to the super tankers of today shipping product by ocean going vessel is the most effective way. With all the positives of ocean trading the major negative is the fact that the exhaust is polluting the very air we breathe. The poor air quality is directly responsible for serious health issues and the people in the port communities are the worst hit. The demands for global trade are on the rise and the ports are growing all around the world to handle the demands
We should promote the conservation of our ecologies by reducing the amount of waste that goes directly into the environment and promoting green thinking and living all across the world. For instance, we could protect our environment by reducing the amount of cattle that feed in a certain area and by prohibiting the introduction of alien-invasive species as they deplete minerals and food in the soil for other plants to consume.
Biodiversity refers the existing variations present which form an ecosystem enabling human survival. However, the alteration of the world habitat has caused a shift in biodiversity. The role of ecologists is to ensure that there is no extinction of various species in the world due to reckless human behaviour. The maritime environment is among the worst hit areas as human activity creates an imbalance in the water levels. Factors such as dumping of human waste consisting of non-biodegradable materials are a causative factor for the possible mass extinction of marine plants and animals (Galgani et al. 45). Oil spills, overfishing, and shipping activities are further causes of adverse effects experienced. Human activity has over the years resulted in drastic climatic changes.
First of all, ocean pollution kills marine life everyday and damages the ocean in many ways that sometimes can't be fixed. The real question is where does it all go? Much of it ends up on our beaches washed in with the waves and tides, some sinks, some are eaten by marine animals mistaking it for food. The majority of pollutants going into the ocean comes from activities on land. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), land-based activities are responsible for as much as 80 percent of the pollutant load in coastal waters and deep oceans. Land-based activities such as oil spills, fertilizer runoff from agriculture, improper or inadequate garbage disposal, poor sewage practices and the dumping of toxic chemicals into the environment are major causes of marine pollution. As someone who really cares about marine animals, always throw trash away in trash cans and not on the ground and always recycle because it makes a difference. (“Ocean Pollution”)(“Marine Pollution”)
Many of the targets for goal 14 are measurable, however not all. Some targets are open for interpretation, and lack a solid unit of measurement. For example targets 14.2, 14.3 14.6 and 14.a/c cannot be measured. It would be difficult to determine the strength of resilience, and an adverse impact must first be defined by a unit that can be measured.(14.2) Furthermore cooperation cannot be measured by any units (14.3), “appropriate treatment of a country” is vague (14.6), nor is there a unit scientific knowledge nor enhanced conservation (14.a/c). Otherwise the targets are generally quantifiable, such as pH of ocean water (14.3), number of fish in fish stocks, and exploited fish populations (14.4), percentage of area conserved, by square foot, (14.5), reduction of subsidies is a numeric value easily understood, as well as economic benefit (14.6,14.7), percentage of artisanal fisheries (14.b).
Rising atmospheric carbon dioxide from fossil fuel combustion is increasing dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and reducing pH in the global surface ocean (Edmunds et al. 2016). Recent estimates suggest that one-quarter of carbon dioxide emissions originating from human fossil-fuel combustion is absorbed by the world’s oceans (Le Quéré, et al. 2015), causing a shift in the seawater carbonate chemistry. As a result, oceans have seen large increases in bicarbonate ions and decreases in concentrations of calcium carbonate ions and pH of the seawater; in a process known as ocean acidification. Since preindustrial times, atmospheric carbon dioxide absorbed by the oceans has lowered the pH of the seawater by 0.1 units, which equates to approximately a 30% increase in acidity. In addition, carbonate ion concentrations have decreased by 11%-15% in the tropics and southern oceans (Orr et al. 2005). According to the IPCC, under a “business as usual” approach to climate change, carbon dioxide absorbed by the oceans will cause a pH decrease of 0.77 units by 2030 (Caldeira and Wickett 2003). This increase in acidity will cause decreases in carbonate ion concentration and lead to a reduction in the saturation states of aragonite, calcite and high magnesium calcite, which may lead to a reduction in calcification in marine organisms (Feely et al. 2004; Gattuso et al. 1999; Langdon and Atkinson 2005; Anthony et al. 2008). With a doubling of atmospheric pCO2 from
What can one human being do to protect the environment? Our planet is shifting, we need to help it change for the better. There are many effects that can change our Globe in a shocking manner but, the good news is each individual can contribute to make a better world for our children. People across the world acquired, use, and dispose enormous multiplicity of products which helps to build our lives easier and more comfortable. However, the outcome of this can make massive damage to our environment. Working together with dozens, hundreds or millions of other people, we can influence and change policies which are destroying our environment. Countries are joining together in vast economic zones and creating enormous markets. Huge multinational corporations trade across our planet, we could incorporate the same approach to make a better plant for our children. Nevertheless, working together with people, we can change the world. Deforestation, air pollution and improper disposal of toxic paint contribute to the degradation of the environment.
