Only those two words he had trouble communicating with others. Another service that was provided was Tomatis therapy that it’s a listing based therapy. I always knew Jonathan was a smart child; however, it was difficult to get him interested to participate in the activities. In the beginning, he did not like where our group would sit. Jonathan would wonder off and look at other groups in the classroom. When it was reading time, he would lay in the rug and begin playing around. Jonathan would hide behind my back or hide behind the book. During name writing time, Jonathan would doodle on his name card. I kept trying different methods to figure out how to cooperate with Jonathan. I asked my supervisor for advice as well. Finally, I realized that Jonathan enjoyed when a task was assigned to him. For example, I would have him help me turn the pages of the book. I realized to get Jonathan involved, I had to demonstrate to him that I appreciated his attention, and that his contribution is valuable to the group. I would complement Jonathan for his efforts on saying the vocabulary word. When Jonathan wrote the first letter of his first name facing the correct direction, I told him how proud I was of him. As result, Jonathan participated more during reading time; he would be interested on what will happen next in the story, and he would remember a few vocabulary words. Finally, the greatest success was when he wrote his first name and last name without losing

Afflicted by left-side Hemiplegia and bound to a wheelchair, my grandmother’s life was not one of ease. By the time I was born she had been living with her barriers for thirty years and had learned to compensate due to her astounding will and surrounding subpar medical practices. As a child I thought nothing of the fact that my grandmother was stricken with paralysis until I witnessed her take a turn for the worse and suffer another hemorrhagic stroke. Her recovery was long and arduous yet, it was a blessing that brought us closer together and nudged me down the path of Occupational Therapy.
A job in any type of therapeutic healthcare can be a rewarding and satisfying job. However, I believe that occupational therapy is a special and extremely rewarding field. A field in which I am over the moon passionate about and completely infatuated with. It is the thought of helping people who have been through horrible tragedies to turn everything around and live a happy healthy life that drives me the most. I feel very strongly as though this profession is where I am meant to work in and make a difference in patient’s lives. The more I research topics and studies of occupational therapy the more infatuated with the field I become because it is much more than just a job. To me, this career is a lifestyle

My client, whom I will call “Jay,” is an eight-year-old, African-American boy, who was referred to our agency by his mother who wanted him to get “any services he could get for free.” He has some emotional and behavioral deficiencies, and does not handle stress well. He has frequent outbursts in class, and reacts without thinking. He needs to work on his interaction skills, and develop strategies that will help him use his words instead of physical reactions when he is frustrated. Because his trigger is frustration, he needs to learn to respond in a positive manner to his peers and teachers. Also, “Jay” needs to learn how to think and act independently.
