As part of my Master's in Occupational Therapy (OT), I have been tasked with presenting a community profile experiencing occupational injustice in order to establish their occupational needs through an interactive poster and this written project brief. The community identified is middle-aged Irish men living the London borough of Ealing. This brief will communicate a critical analysis and justification for using occupational therapy as an agent for change with this particular community in mind. A variety of sociocultural factors will also be explored, which are negatively impacting the health and well-being of this community.

Progression of unemployment during this time led to an unemployment rate of 17% by the mid 80's in Ireland which was significantly higher than England. An inquiry into child abuse in Ireland suggests that almost 50% of the people they interviewed had immigrated to England (CICA, 2000). These men would have lived during a time of great political stress and violence between Ireland and England, potentially having an effect on their mental health (Delaney et al, 2013).
I spoke with Mr. Naranjo many times since the last reporting period regarding scheduling of occupational therapy and also the MRI. Once the MRI and x-ray were done he declined going back to Dr. Branch for a follow-up appointment on 1/31/8. He has requested to see his primary care doctor’s office.
Subjective: Client was born on April 11, 1952. According to client, she had history of both eye cornea transplants, and wears contact lenses for both eyes. In addition, she had right elbow dislocation in 2005. Next, client mentioned she is diabetic and currently taking hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and metformin medications for her diabetes and high blood pressure. In addition, client mentioned she regularly visits her primary care physician for regular checkup. Next, client talked about her balanced concerned at gym while raising her opposite leg and arm for exercise. Furthermore, client mentioned that she likes to go at gym four times in a week, and she never has any balance problem during her household chores or dressing. Introduction John, a six-year-old boy, was referred to our agency with reported problems of certain developmental and behavioral concerns. John currently lives with his mother and his aunt Sue. His mother, Jessica, works as a nurse's aide approximately thirty-five miles from their house, making nine dollars an hour. Sue takes care of John during the day, due to Jessica working the second shift. Jessica also noted that John's father was emotionally abusive to her, and physically abusive to John.
Purpose: Each biennium and upon initial licensure clinicians are required to take a course related to the Laws and Rules of Practice for Occupational therapy. Through this course clinicians will increase awareness and understanding of the laws and rules that direct licensure as a provider of occupational therapy services.

Occupational Therapy has played a role in helping those with Mental and physical disabilities in the United States since 1917. Before that time, Occupational Therapy was used solely in mental institutions to help people that were "more normal" and able to function in a social status. Vi would benefit from skilled occupational therapy services for post op rehabilitation of flexor tendon laceration of the wrist to improve overall independence with functional activities of daily living as well as identifying areas of interest in leisure activities to address Vi's underlying depression. Continued research is contributing to the ongoing significance of how occupational therapy is a vital aspect in promoting increased independences in all aspects of healthcare. (Willard, Schell, 2014) With the incorporation of “Occupational Therapy Practice Framework Domain and Process (3rd ed.)” helps creates the foundation for occupational therapy clinicians as well as other health care providers in facilitating the core believe of occupational and the relationship of health and occupation. (AOTA 2014) Therefore, providing a uniform outline of the various aspects of each individual and how they are interconnected to create the foundation of each individual. With a greater understanding of the foundations of that induvial, the clinician can then facilitate the best therapeutic treatment plan for that individual to achieve their personal goals with unified foundations of care.
Admission into SUNY Downstate will allow me to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy. I believe that admission into your school will provide a great start to my occupational therapy career. Acceptance to this school is important to me because of these different factors that could be beneficial to me such as the experienced professors, class environment, school location and reputation of the facility. I have decided to pick a career in the health field because of the environmental influences that directed me towards my choice. Afflicted by left-side Hemiplegia and bound to a wheelchair, my grandmother’s life was not one of ease. By the time I was born she had been living with her barriers for thirty years and had learned to compensate due to her astounding will and surrounding subpar medical practices. As a child I thought nothing of the fact that my grandmother was stricken with paralysis until I witnessed her take a turn for the worse and suffer another hemorrhagic stroke. Her recovery was long and arduous yet, it was a blessing that brought us closer together and nudged me down the path of Occupational Therapy.

A clinical situation that has taken place that has enabled me to incorporate the “Occupational Therapy Practice Framework Domain and Process (3rd Ed.)” (AOTA, 2014) into my approach was when an individual that has had a car accident during an ice storm. We will refer to this individual as Jane. She was a 55 year old housewife that was the primary caretaker of her husband who had suffered a stroke a few years ago. Jane took care of all the home management as well as transportation and health care needs for her husband. Jane was very active in her community as well as her family that lived several hours away.
