As long as I could remember I always wanted to be either a lawyer, a teacher or a doctor. It was in the sixth grade that I made up my mind to become an obstetrician and it has been my goal ever since. I knew this dream would not be easy to accomplish.
The education length for an Obstetrician consists of 12 to 15 years. This education must consist of practical experience as well. Most obstetricians began with an undergraduate and gradually make their way up to a residency at a hospital and then get their certificate. The prerequisites consist of obtaining a bachelor degree and a medical school degree. After medical school he/she must go to residency for four years. Earlier this week when doing the Excel individual project I found what percentages of my credits would I have to take and how important they would be. As you can see here 75% of the credits I receive are for my major. The minimum of my credits would consist of my elective which makes up five percent of my credits. Leaving 20% of my credits for my required classes. There will be a total of 65 credits I have to take.
Some demands placed on an obstetrician is to know that there will be physical and emotional challenges every day on the job. Some of the patients will deal with difficult pregnancies and many complications and others may be difficult. Many obstetricians work 80-100 hours a week and have a very little social life. Also many obstetricians further their education by pursuing certification in maternal and fetal medicine and reproductive endocrinology. Currently there are 19 job openings and there are 156 obstetricians that are employed in Greenville, Sc. Throughout the course of four years, this number is expected to increase by 5.8%. 31% are over the age of 55 and will probably retire soon because the retiring age is 65 in the U.S and this will increase the job openings. According to Careercoach.com, there are 0% of workers under the age of 25 and 13% of workers age 25-34. The majority of the workers around the age 35 and older and begins to decrease around the age
