Everyone has their own battles that they have to fight, even if occasionally they don’t want to. When life gets hard people have to be strong and hold on tight at the hardest times of their lives. Some people are better at quitting and some can push through until they overcome their problems. Many people talk about how they don’t want to try anymore or their done with what is conflicting them, but there is that percentage of people who have the drive to complete tasks. When Odysseus in, “The Odyssey” tried multiple times to get home and failed, he had a breaking point when he stopped trying, and stopped worrying in general to get to his family. The moment that happened, it was when he was at the cave with multiple beautiful women. But he did …show more content…
In my lifetime I haven’t really had big obstacles that I have had to deal with, but encountered few minor problems that I’ve tried to fix. For example, I have had trouble with my grades this year and was terrified that I wasn’t going to pass any of my classes. I had barely slid by with the grades that I had gotten first semester. I did not realize that final exams were put to your semester grade and was worried that would have major effect on my grades. On top of that I was stressed that my first two quarters were combined. It was such a big transition from middle school and it was a lot different then I had envisioned. Coming into high school, the concept of going to school with some adults just went around in my mind all summer, but at the same time I was not really stressed as bad as I thought I would be. It is a very big difference from going to that setting to something like high school. Even though I had to deal with that situation I still pushed through because I realized that I was definitely not alone because every time that I thought of going to another school, I thought about the other hundreds of thousands of kids who were in the same situation. As for the grade situation, I went to my counselor who explained it for me. Everyone has very different battles that they have to put up with, but some are a lot more major than
There are always going to be a moment in life when it feels like giving up is the only solution. Sometimes if one digs a little deeper like Odysseus did, goals in life can be achieved. Odysseus was faced with multiple obstacles that were difficult to overcome. However, the toughest are Penelope because she tested Odysseus’s loyalty and mental strength, Scylla and Charybdis kept Odysseus from being capable of using his physical strength, and Calypso tested Odysseus’s honor to his loving relationship with his wife Penelope and his ability to separate greed from his goals in life.
In Homer's, The Odyssey, Odysseus encounters many obstacles like I will in my future. My whole life I have wanted to work in the animal field and have recently decided to be an Animal Nutritionist. I will encounter obstacles such as getting into a college, as well as graduating, and getting a job. Odysseus also encountered obstacles such as the lotus eaters, Scylla, and the cyclops. My journey will be different from Odysseus because he was trying to make it back home to Ithaca. While I, plan to work on obtaining a degree. In my future there will be many obstacles to overcome like Odysseus did in his journey.
Through the Odyssey, Odysseus faces many obstacles. Some of the most challenging obstacles Odysseus is faced with is when he ran into Circe, Odysseus journey back to Ithaca, and escaping Polyphemus.
Things was completely different but the same. The work was harder and different from the work I had in middle school even the teachers I had was also different as well. My transition going into high school was different. It happened to be a different type of scenery and I didn’t expect for that to happen to me at that time. Being a freshman opened up a whole different world for me that I wasn’t really ready for. Going into highschool, I had friends I thought I would be friends with for my entire life. As soon as I got to high school things started to change. On top of the friends I had I also made new friends as well. When I was a freshman I had to look up to the upperclassmen to guide me and to lead me by example. When I was a freshman, it meant I had to be on my P’s and Q’s. I felt a lot of pressure when I was a freshman especially from teachers. Fitting in while I was a freshman wasn’t a good start for me because I wasn’t really involved into any school activities or
Many years after the end of the Trojan War, Odysseus still hasn’t returned home to Ithaka. Many believe that he is dead, but the author lets us know that he is being held as a sex captive on the goddess Kalypso’s island. Kalypso has no plans of letting him go to return home either.
In Homer's epic poem The Odyssey, Odysseus faces many different obstacles and challenges throughout his life. Although in my life there won't be monsters and mythical creatures. There will be many different challenges and temptations. Hopefully I will overcome my challenges just as Odysseus has. With the amount of strength and courage that he did on my way to becoming a vet.
In Homer’s The Odyssey and in CNN’s article “Helping Baltimore's Grieving Kids Heal,” both Odysseus and Annette March-Grier exhibit determination when Odysseus prioritizes his return home over the distractions of Calypso’s island, Annette March-Grier establishes an organization to help grieving families and children, and both heroes put the needs of others before their own troubles. Notably, determined Odysseus perseveres in overcoming adversity by prioritizing his return to his family and people over the distractions of Calpyso’s island. For instance, Homer captures Odysseus struggling between giving into temptation and resisting it: “There on the headland, sitting, still, / weeping, his eyes never dry, his sweet life flowing away / with the tears he wept for his foiled journey home, / since the nymph no longer pleased” (Homer 5.167-70).
Some obstacles I had to overcome were mentally challenging situations. I always had people saying I couldn’t do it because it’s too hard to get into, especially for younger people, as me being 25. Another mental challenge is that it’s all on me, if I mess up I can’t blame no one else but myself. Odysseus had a challenge of this because he led his men on this journey as said in book. They trusted him, like my horse trusts me. We both had a lot of mental pressure from this and neither of us could mess up.
Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus faces many obstacles. The three obstacles in the story where odyssey was the Lotus Eaters, Cyclops, and the Enchantress Circe. Odysseus face many problems which he never thought of it. He had to go through that to get his home and it was really hard for him. But even though it was hard he never give up. He believed in his strength instead of giving up.
I feel that in order to achieve personal success in our society you need 3 key things. For one, you need to have determination. In our culture, we seem to have a universal ideology along the lines of “keep going, and you will succeed eventually.” I feel that these idea’s are incredibly true, and have been shown to be effective every time. A good example of this trait in one of the texts we read is in the Odyssey when Odysseus needed to get back home, and despite the odds being against him, he never gave up. He always kept going, and when the going got rough, he got back right up and started over again. Another trait is intelligence. Because we have gone away from warrior culture in modern times, academic success is more than mandatory to achieve
“There is something in the human spirit that will survive and prevail, there is a tiny and brilliant light burning in the heart of man that will not go out no matter how dark the world becomes.” The Odyssey and The Long Walk both exemplify the characteristic of humanity which Leo Tolstoy was referring to within this quote. The main characters of both works, Odysseus and Slavomir, go on journeys that, while physically challenging, tests the strength of their will. The determination and the overwhelming desire to return home of both men is what drives these characters to overcome immeasurable odds. Multiple parallels can be drawn between the two books, from the obstacles the characters face to the symbolism that can be found in Slavomir’s and Odysseus’s journeys. The Long Walk shows how Grecian Epics, such as The Odyssey, are still applicable in the modern day as representations of Humanities’ predominant and all-consuming desire to survive, and the specific desire to not only survive but to do so in the place one calls home.
Sing I me, Muse, and through me tell the story of the lady nymph goddess Calypso. Oh so beautiful and immortal who lives in the sea- hollowed caves on the island Ogygia. She craved the hero of Troy, king of Ithaka, son of Laertes, a mortal and took him as her own. Nine long years they spent on the island together.
Even great heroes must face difficult challenges, and even great heroes receive advice on how to overcome them. In “the Odyssey,” written by Homer, the hero Odysseus faced three different adversaries on his way back to Ithaca: the Sirens, Scylla, and Charybdis. The goddess Circe advises Odysseus on how to overcome them.
Throughout the Odyssey. Odysseus faced many obstacles he passed all of them he past all of them to get to his penelope and son. Son obstacles were harder than others but the three hardest obstacles he had to face was the cyclopes island, going through scylla and charybdis, and arriving home too all those sutures.
Life has many obstacles that it will throw your way, its if people are going to overcome them. Everybody has something there dealing with right now and will always be. It's just what is going to happen during life no matter how hard anybody tries for them to not come. And when they come (and they will) the decision will have to be made, overcome them or get knocked down and have more problems that will come. It's all about attitude towards it, will people fall down and feel sorry for themselves or will they stand strong and fight their problems head on. I don't know what’s coming and nobody else does but it's up to you to make it.
