In life we encounter trials and tribulations that cause us to become stressed, bitter, depressed, and sometimes, on the verge of giving up. We may even want to give up a dream that we have worked our entire lives to accomplish. These difficulties can seem as if they are holding us back when they are actually building us into the people that we will aspire to be. Life can sometimes be full of large obstacles, but with persistence and ambitious minds, we can exceed our own expectations. By learning to overcome these obstacles we can learn to grow and thrive. In order to do this, I believe, persistence and hard work is crucial. In my life I have learned to work hard to accomplish my dreams. I started this at an early age when I competed in competitive …show more content…
I struggled to comprehend everything that was being taught in class. Remembering what my teacher had said in the first week of class, I decided to attend my first help session. It was on a cold and foggy October morning. As I walked into the classroom, I realized that I was the only student there for help. My teacher told me that she was so happy that I came because she could tell that I was struggling. During the help session, she was able to assist me with the problems that I was having. She never gave me the answers. Instead, she gave me the tools that I needed to solve the problems on my own. This method of teaching was tremendously beneficial to my needs as a student. I learned that I would require these help sessions to enhance my learning in this class. As I have said previously, I struggled with math from an early age. I continued to struggle with Pre-Calculus. Knowing this, I attended the help sessions each day that they were offered. This required a lot of self discipline and persistence on my part. I was active in several extracurricular activities and I also held a part time job my junior year. So I had to juggle many things in my life to be successful in this
The overall purpose of the piece is to reflect on how persistence is a key to success and show how even though an individual may experience a failure at first, with hard work an individual may be successful in the
In the other hand, I was failing math because unlike all the other students, I am not the fastest learner. I would always get confused with the structure and format of the question. For instance, fractions, decimals, and word problems would confuse me . I wasn’t very good with solving any of that so I knew I had to start attending tutoring. I had very good help from the students at Loma Linda University. They taught me an easier way to solve any problem, and that caused my test scores to increase. I can pass that class with no problem now. That
When I decided I wanted to get my Associates and Bachelors Degree in Business Management in high school, I realized I would have to overcome an obstacle in college. Having so many math classes ever since I was in elementary school, I knew I would have trouble in math. But majoring in business would involve a lot of math. My first semester of college, I ranked the lowest in college math. I knew I had to do something about it then before I had to approach more difficult standards in math. I got a tutor and I am developing habits on how to do certain equations. I know I have to keep working on it, but I have done everything I
Math was never difficult for me. In middle school , I would always be good in Math , the teachers would push me hard to do my work and understand math. I used to stay for tutoring to get better at math and to help other students out. When I would struggle with a problem , I would always work it out until I found my mistake or ask for help. In 8th grade , I moved to a new school and the teachers were different so I wouldn't ask for help or I wouldn't understand math but , I passed with a B which is weird. So I quit on 8th grade because there was no point. The teachers cared but I felt like I was a nerd and i felt different because I didn't know what was going on because everyone knew what was going on and i didn't. I felt stupid and I didn't
Persistence is one chapter from the book which called Character Strengths and Virtues. In this chapter, the author talks about persistence, perseverance, and Industriousness, and how theses characteristics affect individuals' lives. As the chapter begins, the writer defined the persistence as continual of a goal-directed action despite difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. The writer describes the persistence characteristic as a unique human strength compared with animals; most animals do not continue at any task longer than 20 minutes before moving on to the next task. In addition, this chapter includes some Theoretical Traditions, individuals who persevere frequently assume that their persistence will be rewarded with the consequences
Math has not always been difficult for me.When I was in fourth and third grade math was pretty easy and fun for me.Yes I did struggle in middle school because the teachers had told me to focus on my English because I was behind and so I did focus on English and my math grades dropped. When I struggled on a problem in the past I felt as though I was not getting the subject and I was just going to fail. But I learned the subject by asking friends for help.If I had a really hard time on a problem I would just wait until the next day because the teacher would go over the problem in class. But if it wasn't to hard and I could solve it with a little help I would usually ask my friends for help.I would struggle for about fifteen minutes on that one problem
Determination Quote # 1: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill
Up until high school, school work came easy to me and I had never knew the feeling of struggling to understand materials. In specifically, precalculus my junior year was the first time that I had truly struggled with understanding lessons. My grade in the class began to reflect my lack of understanding. Rather than lower the standard I held myself at, I put more effort into the class. I frequently stayed after school to get help and do extra problems which allowed me to do better on class assignments. After passing precalculus with a B+, I took on the challenge of AP calculus my senior year. I have and still continue to put forth extra effort beyond the classroom in order to grasp a true understanding of each concept. Most recently, while working on College Algebra homework with my AP calculus teacher, he made an effort to show how the material linked together with what we were doing in
Significant product of persistence is development of character and happy and certain trust. These qualities fuel each other. Tirelessness produces development and trust. Thus development and trust produces constancy. In times when all appears to be lost and miserable it might be in any event some encouragement to know with the right state of mind it is creating the extraordinary product of development and trust. This may be for you as well as for the advantage of those whose lives you touch. When you are enticed to offer into debilitation and antagonism remember the open door you need to show a predominant
In the world today there are so many people who want many different things. Although they know what they want, over half of them never do anything about it. Some may argue that they don't have time to do want they want to accomplish, but people always need to make time for the things that we'd like to have. Many of us have set goals that we've wanted since we were young. As we grow older they may change, but many of us don't realize that to get the things we want to accomplish, we have to always work towards getting them. Some say that we don't need to worry so much about accomplishing our goals, but if we ever want to accomplish whatever it may be, we need to constantly work towards doing things. People that are always working towards getting
In high school the 8th grade I started having trouble with math and math has been a trouble for me every since. I am in college now and I did not get the correct help I needed. I am in college and having more trouble in higher college math , the most trouble math I had was Algebra. Algebra was so badly confusing that I my mind would be blank for hours at a time . I hated going to math class because I could never understand what Mr.Smith was saying an get it because it was already hard for me to learn with my ADHD and
Growing up, Math was never my favorite subject. I can remember struggling with it early on. In high school, I would make sure I had extra help or tutors to get through the course. I struggle even today with challenging, abstract math problems. When I heard that I would have an Algebra course for Business Administration I was disappointed but up for the challenge.
Guided with help from guidance consolers and my teachers I was able to get the necessary help I needed. When I mean help I mean teachers starting tutoring weekdays after a long school day and also on Saturday
Throughout people's´ lives,we often times try to find ways to overcome the obstacles that we may face. Sometimes we learn from them, but sometimes we even run from them. As a kid, I had a hard time of understanding how to behave at school. I honestly didn't know what my problem was, but bad things continued to happen. It was until one year that I decided that I would face my obstacles and get my act together and learn how to behave.
I have struggled with mathematics ever since elementary school. I could never understand mathematical concepts or apply them to realistic situations. Solving similar equations repeatedly seemed tedious to me and I did not have the patience for it. Since I have been better in English and acquired an interest for it from a young age, I was always told the ignorant idea that people who thrive in english, often struggle in math. Despite knowing that this belief was untrue, I always depended on it as an excuse for my deficiency in math. Even when I would understand the order of completing an equation, I would often make slight errors throughout the process, which was discouraging. My homework assignments and tests received low scores because of my inability to remember every detail to solve the problems correctly. That became my perspective towards math as a whole, a problem that I could not solve.
