As what Moliere said “The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” Many people have obstacles everyday, but it's not the obstacles these people face it's the ones they have overcome that make their stories. Many things are obstacles but not all are the same. These two people named Arjay and Gecko from the book The Juvie Three By Gordon Korman encountered multiple obstacle throughout the book. Arjay and Gecko both were criminals but, Gecko did not want to be one, and Arjay never meant to kill anyone. They both had to overcome multiple obstacles. The Juvie Three By Gordon Korman has four main characters Terence, Arjay, Gecko, and their group leader Mr.Healey. But the one that overcame the largest obstacle, was Arjay. Arjay is a 15 year old kid that was charged with manslaughter and put into a halfway house. But the obstacle he had to overcome were the people he was in the halfway house with, specifically Terence. Arjay is a strict rule follower and did not want to be kicked out of the halfway house, and Terence was still getting in trouble in the halfway house, so he said "I’m not going back inside because you can't keep your hands off everything you see. Just because you have barriers on life doesn't mean you can't overcome them. In "The Scarlet Ibis" Doodle faces many barriers and have to overcome all of them. "Oh yes you can, Doodle."I said."All you got to do is try. Now come on." This shows how even if you get pushed down in life that doesn't mean you can't get back up and try again to overcome your boundaries. Another way Doodle would overcome boundaries is by setting a goal to try to achieve. "Aw, come on Doodle, "I urged." You can do it. Do you want to be different from everyone else when you start school". This shows how he wanted to try and overcome his barrier by setting a goal and trying to overcome it even if it was hard. "In the story, "The Scarlet Ibis," by James Hurst, the author

When people are in these life or death situations they have to do things they thought they would never have to do. For instance, in the book “Night” by Elie
A significant aspect of life is being confronted with obstacles that restrict the ability to achieve success. As displayed in James Hurst’s short story, The Scarlet Ibis and as well as in the movie The Man in the Iron Mask, the main characters Louis and Doodle face the reality of being confined by their physical and mental inabilities, which hinder their progress. Each character is also greatly influenced by their surroundings, leading to poorly made decisions. Additionally, both characters face unrealistic standards set by the individuals around them and are pushed past their capabilities, resulting in failure. The lack of ability possessed by Louis and Doodle prevent them from overcoming barriers due to their physical and mental limitations,
Every May fifth Americans across the United States take the opportunity to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with parades, mariachi music, folk dancing, Mexican food and of course margaritas. But for most Mexicans Cinco de Mayo it’s not a big deal. It is nothing more than a national holiday. Cinco de Mayo is one of the most misunderstood Mexican holidays.
Most of these obstacles were overcome, except for a few. Although many obstacles were overcome, the obstacles that were not overcome in this novel were, ultimate rivalry, parenting, and wealth. Well so did Kira Salak in “The Cruelest Journey”. In this non-fiction story, Kira sets off on a journey to embark new life experiences, and to reach her goal of sailing down the Niger River to Timbuktu. During her journey, Kira learns what it means to persevere on and to have faith in yourself especially when others do not. This piece of evidence proves that she learned perseverance and how to continue going through hard obstacles in dilemmas, In “The Cruelest Journey” by Kira Salak states, “The storms erupts into a new overture. Torrential rains. Waves higher than my kayak, trying to capsize me. But my boat is self-bailing and I stay afloat (Salak, 424) .” This quote shows when obstacles tries to pressure Salak into slowing down or stopping her journey. Two things motivated Salak into going on this journey: doubt and wanting to experience new things, before Salak set off to this journey her guide Modibo says, “No man has ever completed such a trip, though few has tried. This morning he took me aside and told me he thinks I’m crazy…(Salak,422).” This certain quote help motivate Salak because so many people doubted that she would not make the trip successfully. Salak stated, “If a journey does not have anything to teach you about yourself, then what kind of journey is it?” Not only does this quote proves that Salak wants to experience new things in life but wants to know what it might teach her. Salak goes on this journey to learn and experience, during this journey she learns to have faith in herself and to preserve on through hard
To help show this, it used many literary devices to make the reader feel apart of the story. Although there are hard times in your life, you will always be able to overcome it. For Doodle, it was having to deal with problems nobody else had. But with determination, people can do anything they set their mind to. There are always going to be obstacles in life that might not be easy to get around. For Doodle, he had to deal his own situation, being able to walk, that he eventually overcame. There will always be another way around an obstacle. As long as you work hard and use
In “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the protagonist tries to help his disabled brother, Doodle, learn to walk and run. It is explained, “When Doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn’t walk, so I set out to teach him” (Hurst 418). Doodle’s brother helps slightly for personal gain, but has a good heart trying to help his brother learn to walk. After Doodle has begun to walk, his brother tries to get him to do more. The two get caught in the rain one afternoon and trying to get home, the narrator explains that “the faster I walked, the faster he walked, so I began to run...I heard Doodle, who had fallen behind, cry out, ‘Brother, Brother, don’t leave me!’...He didn’t answer so I placed my hand on his forehead and lifted his head. Limply, he fell backward onto the earth” (Hurst 426). The narrator has good intentions, trying to help his brother learn to more dependent, but he pushes Doodle too far, resulting in Doodle’s death. Both Doodle’s brother and Montresor are flawed and have their own problems that wouldn’t be present in the stories of characters like
“It's right hard to say," she said. "Suppose you and Scout talked colored-folks' talk at home it'd be out of place, wouldn't it? Now what if I talked white-folks' talk at church, and with my neighbors? They'd think I was puttin' on airs to beat Moses, "But Cal, you know better," I said. “It's not necessary to tell all you know. It's not ladylike—in the second place, folks don't like to have somebody around knowing more than they do. It aggravates 'em. You're not gonna change
“Why do some people persist despite insurmountable obstacles, while others give up quickly or never bother to try” (Gunton 118)? A Raisin in the Sun, a play by Lorraine Hansberry, is a commentary on life and our struggle to comprehend and control it. The last scene in the play between Asagai and Beneatha contrasts two contemporary views on why we keep on trying to change the future, and reaches the conclusion that, far from being a means to an end, the real meaning of life is the struggle. Whether we succeed or not, our lives are purposeful only if we have tried to make the world a better place for ourselves and others- only, in other words, if we follow our dreams.
