Arrests ranging from aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft to vandalism, disorderly conduct and runaway. In 2006 there were 4,195 youth arrested between the ages of 10 and 17 within Mecosta county. In 2012 there were 3,939 youth arrested that were between those ages. Although the number decreased by a couple hundreds arrest, almost 4,000 youth arrest is still incredibly high. Many of these youth are just searching for a sense of belonging and purpose in the world. Adolescents are easily victims to unlawful behavior as a way to try and fulfil that feeling of self-worth. A large percentage of the youth involved with our organization lack adult supervision during after school hours. Oblivion will provide that necessary supervision as well as a fun and supportive environment where today’s youth can explore and search for their self-worth and belonging in a safe and controlled environment. We believe that with support, supervision, and an energetic environment that the arrest rate of youth will continue to decrease in Mecosta county.
We believe that Oblivion offers the highest quality of service to the at-risk youth in Big Rapids, Michigan. As a result, we anticipate a decrease in youth violence, a reduction involving youth delinquent behavior, a decrease amount of youth with criminal charges, a decreased amount of vandalism caused by the community youth, and a decrease involving bullying
