Why are not more people worried about obesity in the United States? Obesity is a major issue in today’s society and people seem to be ignoring it. The government should regulate each person’s diet because the U.S. obesity would decrease, American’s health would improve, and people would eat healthier. Could obesity decrease in the United States? In the picture, “I Want You... To Slim Down” by Pletcher, the United States is running a campaign against obesity. In addition there is an overweight man representing the U.S. obesity epidemic and he is holding an ice cream cone looking at a poster. In the poster, Uncle Sam is pointing at the man; the illustration reads, “I Want You... To Slim Down” (Pletcher). Despite what the sign says, the man then eats the ice cream cone without hesitation. This shows that the people in the United States really do not care about their health problems. Therefore if the U.S. regulated people’s diet, the obesity in the United States would decrease, making people’s health eventually become better. Healthier …show more content…

Recently the federal government passed a law that, “requires restaurant chains with 20 or more outlets to disclose calorie counts on their food items and supply information on how many calories a healthy person should eat in a day” (Rosenbloom). By doing this it is helping to expose the nutritional information allowing the American people to be aware of what they are eating; if it is healthy or unhealthy. Many wonder if people make good decisions when it comes to which food choices they consume. People who support this new federal law believe that, “even if menu labeling does not inspire consumers to eat better, they should be told what they are putting in their mouths” (Rosenbloom). Even though the menu items are labeled it does not matter to those people that overlook it, because those people consume it
