Obesity weighs on society Is there a huge health issue occurring in our country? Yes obesity is a quagmire that this country faces ; it causes many health issues and can lower quality of life. Obesity also manages to burden society, it effects everyone, the obese and the non obese. Although some extenuate the issue, believing that it does not to be addressed; obesity is a issue that cannot be ignored by society or the government. There are those who try to deny the fact that action is necessary , they may try to rationalize an obese lifestyle by stating it does not harm others. They may also state that personal freedoms are violated in attempts by the government to control weight. Others might also argue that targeting obesity creates
Obesity does not discriminate against social status, sex, or race; it can take a person’s life and turn it upside down in the blink of an eye if they are not careful. Some people think of obesity as a worldwide killer because there is no outrunning it if it overtakes a person’s body. Every 1 in 3 adults are obese right here in America, that should give each and every individual some type of hint that there is a major problem occurring. The obesity epidemic is not something that has just caught the attention of people recently; it has been going on since the 1950’s! This epidemic is a major problem; over 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being obese or extremely overweight and over 40 million children were said to be obese in
Obesity has played a major role in media over the last decade. With growing concern over the issue, a controversy over whether obesity is a disease itself or not has developed. Obesity, by definition, is a condition that is characterized by excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body, usually indicated by a body mass index of 30 or greater. According to the currently accepted definition of disease, a condition of the body or one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms, it can be concluded that obesity does not meet the criteria to be classified as a disease.
Obesity is the most preventable health issue in America. It is considered the main problem in the United States and also has been around for centuries. Despite the fact that countless individuals are unaware about the increasing statistics associated with obesity, more than seventy percent of men and women within the United States adult population are overweight or obese. When discussing the obesity epidemic in America, many people name fast food companies as the number one cause, but there are several factors besides fast food that further deepen the obesity epidemic. Medication, stress, psychological issues all contribute to the obesity epidemic in America.
Over one-half of all Americans are overweight or obese. If you are overweight or obese, carrying this extra weight puts you at risk for developing many diseases. Women generally have more subcutaneous fat than men, but appear to suffer a greater cardiovascular risk from a given degree of fat than women.
Is obesity really a serious health concern or is the “epidemic” merely a result of highly fabricated, misleading ideas of politicians and the media? The article, Obesity: An Overblown Epidemic? By W. Wayt Gibbs featured in the May 23, 2005 edition of Scientific America, raises this question. Most health experts and average people believe that obesity is one of the most prevalent health concerns today, resulting in increased risk for other major health issues; such as; heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and the chance for early loss of life. However, other researchers are suggesting that the consequences of being overweight are being blown out of proportion. Naturally, they do
This may seem a little alarmist to you, but childhood obesity in America is a big enough problem to warrant such a cry for help. Don't believe me? Take a look around and try to count how many obese children and parents you see while out and about during a normal day. Don't stare, but you might be astounded when you open your eyes and begin to look for the problem.
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess fats have grown and accumulated to the point of harm, and a shortened life expectancy. Obesity is a problem that has been more prominent in the 20th and 21st century and is now a main concern for both society and the government. You don’t have a lot of money on you and you’re hungry so you grab a bite to eat at a nearby fast food restaurant. Without realizing what you are putting into your body you continue eating these inexpensive meals every night on your way home from work. Weeks turn into months and the next thing you know your cloths don’t fit the way they used you beginning to notice yourself gaining weight. Obesity among young Americans is a problem and can have serious effects if nothing is done about it.
Having one severe disease can lead to have a tuff life or even more it can cost someone's life. In the earlier years before the 70’s obesity started to increase, and people were not aware of what was causing this epidemic. In these earlier years fast food restaurants started to increase so did their costumer's this caused more and more people to consume meals out of their homes. Now the big problem in this day is that many individuals don’t put a stop to this epidemic. Or many don't accept the truth behind these bad foods that can cause a big problem to the body. There are many solutions for the obesity, but it is for individuals to make a change. But many of the people depend on these types of products people love the taste
Obesity and being overweight Obesity/overweight issues need to be talked about among young women. I believe a woman can be and look beautiful at any weight. And just because someone is at a healthy weight does not necessarily mean they are healthy or just because someone is overweight, most people will automatically think it's because that person is a fatass or eat a lot, some people are overweight because of health issues or a slow metabolism. I also believe that everyone deserves respect and if a person has criticism; they can deliver it kindly. People think it's unimportant to talk about excessively overeating or binge eating.
An Obesity epidemic is disturbing the financial and social stability of the United States. Obesity can be termed deviant for a variety of reasons. Not only is it unhealthy, but it is also a widely unaccepted
Linked with health problems is a poor diet. Variations in our food environment have made it challenging to maintain a healthy weight. Society tends to want to eat more fast-food rather than cooking at home because it is cheaper and less time-consuming. We have become lazy when it comes to our diets. We don’t take into consideration the Food Guide and basically eat what we want, when we want. Obesity is also a major drain on the economy. The amount of money being spent on health care because of obesity-related diseases is astronomical. The Globe and Mail had an article headlined, “Obesity costs economy up to $7-billion a year” (Picard). By eating right and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, our society can cut down economic costs drastically. All we need to have is some discipline, the proper diet, and exercise.

Last but not least I hope to give my opinion if I believe that age is an factor in determine if someone is motivated or not in making a change to their life.
