Obamacare uses federal subsidies make health care premiums more affordable for people with lower incomes. People closer to the poverty line receive extra subsidies which reduce the cost of deductibles greatly and can even reach thousands of dollars. However, the case for many of the middle-class Americans is very different. For a person earning more than $47,520 or a four-person family earning $97,200, the premiums and deductibles are very pricey making health care coverage unaffordable. The middle class doesn’t receive the subsidies like the lower income does. Obamacare isn’t making health care more affordable a crossed the board, rather it focuses on helping people with lower incomes by reducing deductibles prices. This makes Obamacare
All Obama Care essentially does is shift the cost of the healthcare from primarily employers to the government with the health of the mechanism Health Insurance Exchange (HIE). Jost (2009) explains, “HIEs are entities that organize the market for health insurance by connecting small businesses and individuals into larger pools that spread the risk for insurance companies, while facilitating the availability, choice, and purchase of private health insurance for the uninsured” (pp 51). The public will still be contributing the cost by paying either their personal policy or by paying a tax or fine of
The opposite side of the Affordable Care Act, the idea of this research paper is way to show how the Affordable Care Act is a quagmire and unjust to many American citizens by not allowed one to make his/her own choices. Meanwhile, it focuses on many points such as how citizens are end up paying high tax penalty for not having a health insurance; and it argue on how it should be one choice to choose rather he/ she wants to have health insurance or
Last year, I joined Relay Tutor Corps not really knowing what to expect. Little did I know, it would change my life forever. Prior to attending Tulane, I had never considered teaching as a future career path. After taking a class with Dean Cross I became enthralled with public education in New Orleans. She was so passionate about education and the need to help change and fix certain components. Just a few short weeks into tutoring, I knew my vision for my future had changed. Every week I was eager to get in the classroom. With my 5th grade students, I immediately built a relationship. They learned to trust me and work with me. Together we were able to turn frustration into positive energy that went into their work. However, my 8th graders were
On the webpage “Obamacare Facts” (2013) it had a video explaining how Obamacare worked. Obamacare has two purposes which are to cover more American citizens and add more benefits to American’s healthcare plans. Now this Affordable Care Act comes with “guaranteed coverage, essential benefits, premiums packages and new taxes” (2013). Since healthcare is required there is a punishment if you do not have it, which are penalties you will have to pay. Some people find it way easier for them to pay for the punishment then to actually have full coverage for health insurance. There are also benefits that come in the health care policy that someone was never planning to use or never going to use but they have no choice but to pay for it. The Affordable Care Act allows some monthly cost of insurance to go down for only some people for the rest their bills will increase. Now the reason their cost will increase and others will decrease is because of the federal subsidy. Federal subsidy will not reduce the cost for some American’s but hand their cost of insurance to others. (BCBSNC,
When the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, the lives of the men and women in America were forever changed. After the attack, the United States got involved in World War II. Because millions of men were drafted or volunteered to help fight in the war, it left the women to take care of the home front; as they were now the main providers of their families. With the men’s vacated, employment opportunities opened up for the women left and 6.5 million women entered the workforce (145). Women who traditionally held household roles, such as mothers and wives were now sustaining the economy, by fulfilling the industrial and agricultural labor demands that the war created. In addition to becoming the main providers, women were also dealing with America’s struggling economy. Regular luxuries such as gas, food, and
A family of four, making nearly $24,000 a year, is situated just above the national poverty line. Even though the family doesn't have health insurance, they are maintaining their current lifestyle. Now, this struggling family will have to come up with an extra 7,000 dollars annually to cover the health insurance being forced upon them by the government. The Affordable Care Act is punishing American citizens and it will not fulfill its purpose to lower the cost of health care for our country. Its poorly constructed plan is only a band-aid that is patching up a problem that will lead to more problems in the future.
Obamacare is also known as the Affordable Care Act. With the Obamacare Law everyone has a right to health insurance. The law was passed to help people without health insurance be eligible to receive, therefore they cannot be denied assistance. Obamacare is very helpful because you receive help to pay for medication and medical bill. Either most or all, depending on the price would be paid. Companies with 50 or more workers, pay the workers health insurance. With Obamacare there is an equal distribution, no one is left out. Parents that have children under 26 years old can stay under their health plan. People that have had health insurance before March 2010 are not effected as much compared to those that have insurance after. Since the Obamacare
In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee gives us the character Atticus Finch to give us an example of what courage is through symbolism, pathos, and irony. In this analysis I will talk about about how Atticus’s actions and words all seem to try to teach us something, and that something is courage. We can see the biggest example of Atticus’s courage when he has to talk about Tom Robinson’s case or when he talked to the kids about what Mrs. Dubose was trying to do before her death. Atticus’s courage is the type that allows him to do what he thinks is right even if people don’t agree with him or if it seems hopeless to try. Atticus is also seen trying to pass down his courage and wisdom to his kids throughout the story.
One of the most controversial policies implemented by President Obama and the Democratic Party was the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The Affordable Care Act aimed to cut the rate of uninsured Americans and increase the quality of healthcare that they were receiving. While this has been somewhat effective in its own regard, there is much more room for improvement. Now that insurance companies have to cover a broader scope of people, including those with pre-existing conditions, many Americans that previously had health insurance have witnessed a spike in their premium rates. This, along with an increase in new taxes on products such as medical devices and pharmaceuticals, subsidizes the costs of the Affordable Care Act; those with high incomes also received a higher tax rates.
While the Affordable Care Act has rapidly reduced the number of uninsured Americans, there are still millions of people living without health insurance. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s 2015 poll, 46% of Americans tried to get Marketplace coverage- such as independent insurance companies- but the cost was too expensive. Many uninsured citizens are a part of a “coverage gap” that doesn’t give an affordable option for healthcare. The population that is a part of the coverage gap would earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, yet not enough to qualify for a Marketplace monthly premium. By eliminating or reducing the coverage gap through the creation of policy changes, the number of uninsured Americans would decline. Additionally, only
For these 11 million people Obamacare is one of the greatest acts passed by congress, it has helped them get the healthcare/insurance that they need. Out of the population, Obamacare was heavily targeted on the lower society and trying to make healthcare more affordable for those who can’t get it, “11 million people have signed up ... of which about half will be from the uninsured population,” according to the statistic it is giving 6.5 million of them didn't have insurance that meant that the government has given those people access to healthcare which they didn’t have before. But with much cheaper health insurance comes other costs, such as how the quality of healthcare has dropped and now “55% of doctors already refuse new Medicaid patients.” With almost 6.5 million new people who has been coming, the lines for health care have been drastically increased to the point where most people who have signed up for Obamacare cannot even receive care due to long waiting times. Obamacare, all in all, still has been very beneficial for the lower class giving them many opportunities to get the help and aid that they need to
Currently, “Premiums in 31 states are expected to rise by double digits, while two states will see decreases in 2017 from this year. Premiums in one state — Arizona — are estimated to more than double” (Herron, 1). This means that the cheap alternative that Obamacare once promised may not be available in the coming months. This increase in many states will affect the general population. Unfortunately, these rises could potentially make Obamacare out of reach for low income families. While this price increase doesn’t affect people who receive health care from their jobs, it is hypothesized that it will affect those who are the most ill. “That means that the sickest patients are most likely to be squeezed. They’ll either have to suffer the inconvenience of switching all their doctors and records around, or they’ll have to stomach the biggest increases” (Ableson, 2). This belief is the core of the Republicans argument because not only has Obamacare proved to be relatively inefficient is is shown to likely become a negative force for those who truly need it. If those who truly need it aren’t getting enough coverage now, what happens when the Act is
Obamacare is an unofficial name for the Patient Protection and ACA (Affordable Care Act) which was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010. The White House announced that in the first month, more than 100,000 Americans successfully enrolled in new insurance plans (The New America). That’s not even close to a quarter of the United States population. There have been problems with the website when it crashed. This prevented many Americans from completing the enrollment process. Which put a big hurt on the AC. But there is no question that there is a real demand for quality, affordable health insurance. In the first month, nearly a million people successfully completed an application for themselves or their families. An estimated amount 396,000 citizens have the ability to gain access to Medicaid under the Affordable Care
Obamacare may be one of the most debatable topics at the moment ever since 2010. For those who are still confused on what Obamacare is and how it works is understandable and common amongst Americans. Obamacare is also known as the Affordable Care Act. It can be summed up as a law that ensures every American has access to health insurance that is affordable and within their budget. This is done by offering people discounts on government-sponsored health insurance plans, and by expanding the Medicaid assistance program so they include more people who can’t afford health care. In order for someone to qualify for Obamacare they must have an insurance plan that covers at least ten essential services that pertain
Obamacare has drastically raised health care costs for individuals and families. One of the reasons Obamacare was established was to reduce family premiums by $2,500 a year (Anderson 1). However, this goal has not been accomplished yet, the typical family premiums are increasing at rapid rates (Anderson 2). From 2015-2016, Family Silver, one of the most popular family insurance plans, had a ten percent increase on their premiums price. Some states even rose by forty percent (Furchtgott-Roth 3). Middle class families cannot keep paying an arm and a leg for health insurance. Health insurance should not be a major issue for Americans, it should be
