Should Obamacare be repealed?
As of now, many Americans have problems with their health care and the two political parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, are split on the issue. The past president, Barrack Obama, enacted the Patient Protection and the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare, on May 23rd, 2010.
After the first attempt to repeal Obamacare failed, a “skinny” repeal of Obamacare was put in place to repeal only parts of Obamacare. This repeal also failed with a Senate vote of 49-51, not repealing Obamacare.
Although most Americans are not happy with their healthcare, Obamacare should not be repealed because its repeal would result in coverage loss, prices to rise, and it would take a step backward in health care rather than solving the main concerns Americans have about health care.
Although health care is already very expensive in the United States, the result of the repeal would only raise the premiums more so. If Obamacare were to be repealed, the individual mandate would follow along with it. The individual mandate is a rule that everyone has to purchase insurance. Analysts have said that “health insurance would become more expensive and cover fewer people” (Sanger-Katz 2). With the influence of the individual mandate, “healthy people tend to buy insurance, reducing the average cost of coverage” (Sanger-Katz 2). Without the individual mandate, healthy people would not be buying insurance, causing
The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) from being introduced in 2010 has not been well received by the public. Two main consequences are economic issues, and many states rejecting the act. Economic issues are relevant because it is assumed that insurance premiums are increased, rising cost increases during a recession, mandated benefits and other costs will be passed on to consumers and billions of dollars will be taken from seniors Medicare benefits. In addition, a requirement of the act is that insurance companies spend at least 50-80 percent of premium dollars on medical care, which will lead to less consumer choice and higher prices. Many states are choosing to reject the act
“The fundamental market failure that Congress sought to fix was this cost-shifting from the uninsured to the privately insured.” (Fisher) It is clear to see that Obamacare did not fix the cost-shifting it was implemented to fix. There are still free health insurance options where the government is responsible for so many American’s healthcare costs, and when it comes down to it, the premiums for individuals with private insurance have still continuously went up over the years since the Affordable Care Act was passed. In 2012, Daniel Fisher wrote, “Existing federal laws already cover the poor, the elderly, and the roughly 60% of Americans who get their insurance through employers. Those laws provide free and low-cost care to just about anyone who needs it.” (Fisher) If this is the case, what purpose does requiring everyone to have insurance serve? It does not change the financial state of the country and only minutely impacts each individual’s quality of
One of the biggest concern of the nation is the health care, because more then half a million people do not have insurance. The Democratic and Republican worked together to improve the issue, but there was not any solution through any of our past president. Until President Barak Obama signed and passed the Affordable Care Act on March 23, 2010, which is also known as ObamaCare. This act reforms the combination of control health care cost, and the development of coverage through the public and private insurance
The individuals likely to opt out of insurance are those who are young and healthy. However, without healthy people paying into the system, insurance companies are forced to raise rates for ill patients in order to make a profit. In this situation, those with long-term health conditions may not be able to afford treatment. For example, a family of four could find a monthly plan for as little as $433 with a $0 deductable, but only if they were to receive regular treatment and medication. A plan like this would not cover treatment like chemotherapy, which can cost over $10,000 for a single course. With Obamacare, families can afford to buy insurance that will cover treatments for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. If Trump succeeds in repealing the ACA it could leave sick patients with no choice but to decide between inevitable death or financial ruin.
For the love of God, do away with the Affordable care act, the forced mandate, and the penalties for choosing not to be robbed blind as soon as possible! The overwhelming burden of this scam is one of the main reasons we voted and advocated for you this past election. Since the insidious inception of this scam, the insurance premiums my wife and I pay per month have gone from $285.00 a month each to $993.56 a month each starting January 2017 up from $694.93 each last year! Currently, we are paying nearly $24,000 a year!
Since June 6, 2009, President Barack Obama has told the American public numerous times, “If you like your health care plan, you 'll be able to keep your health care plan.” The public later found out that this was not the case. If your health care plan did not satisfy the minimum federal requirements, then you will disinherit your plan and, you must find another one. House republicans have tried to repeal the bill almost 40 times because they claim it is a major threat to the economic health of the nation. Despite all of the political rhetoric about Obamacare over the past few years, a majority of Americans do not know what it is and how it affects them. While Obamacare does attempt to amend some of the
Health care has been a controversial topic of discussion for all Americans since it was put in effect many years ago. Currently the biggest debate of Healthcare up to date is Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is a Health care Reform that is a governmental attempt to make basic health care easily obtainable. However, there are no benefits without cost in situations like this, and upon that are different viewpoints on the subject thus creating political debates discussing if it is ethically correct. The overall goal that Obamacare hopes to accomplish is that through specific changes through insurance companies, industry standards, and patient guarantees a healthier America will be produced. Obamacare has its ups and downs for both the generally agreeing democratic viewpoints and the opposing republican side. Both viewpoints have their own beliefs about how Health care works and Obamacare is somewhat in between on this. Most arguments on Obamacare deal with Medicaid being constitutional and if Obamacare truly reduces the total cost of health care for individuals and in the government.
One of the main reasons why Obamacare is not working is because, insurance companies are pulling out of the Obamacare marketplace or going out of business, this is due to the government not reimbursing the companies as they promised. The article, “Beneficiaries Reflect Health Law Strengths and Faults” published on October 20, 2016 argues that the “Obama Administration, thwarted by Republican opponents in Congress, has paid out
Well the Affordable care Act was sign in 2010 by yours truly Obama (he sucks), but went into effect in the year 2014. Obama care was create on the bases of providing subsidies to lower and middle class Americans. The problem
While the Obamacare act has both pros and cons, people are likely to support it or disagree to it on account of the perspective that they see things from. In spite of the fact that the act involves a series of benefits, it is difficult and almost impossible for one to ignore the fact that it is likely to cause a significant shortage of healthcare professionals and that it is also probable to cause an increase in drug prices.
“ObamaCare contains many benefits, especially for low and middle income families and business” (“ObamaCare: Pros and Cons”). Many people have been having concerns on the cost of the insurance because it has raised in cost. There is a new law out there that President Barack Obama passed called ObamaCare. ObamaCare is also known to be The Affordable Care Act (ACA). The goal of this act was to make sure every American had health insurance by January 2014. ObamaCare went from being something good, to a controversial issue towards Americans. This topic is very debatable in positive and negative ways, it just all depends on how it effects someone. One of ObamaCare’s requirements were to have companies provide health insurance to people
This removal is going to cause roughly 13 million Americans to become uninsured. This loss of health care and proper rights, which were fought for during the Obama terms, is a very large loss to the quality of life of the humans inside the United States. On top of having 13 million Americans uninsured, removing the Obamacare tax is going to cause premiums to anyone still inside the program to raise for everyone. With noticeably less people inside the program, it’s going to require the individuals still inside the program to pay more because of how the policy was setup. When there are very large amounts of people inside the country in the same program, there is more money being directly funded into the protocol every month, which allowed Americans to have lower rates. The lower rates were from the likelihood that not every single person is going to use their health insurance, so the ones who do, have low co-pays and premiums every month. With the mass withdrawal of people from the program, this luxury is going to go away, which inevitably raises monthly premiums and copays which individuals inside the country will see. This will increase financial stress on the lower and middle class once again even more than it currently is. As the premiums raise, more and more citizens are going to have to forgo health insurance, and the core value of health care gets completely whipped away. The life expectancy of this country is already extremely poor for how
Obamacare has drastically raised health care costs for individuals and families. One of the reasons Obamacare was established was to reduce family premiums by $2,500 a year (Anderson 1). However, this goal has not been accomplished yet, the typical family premiums are increasing at rapid rates (Anderson 2). From 2015-2016, Family Silver, one of the most popular family insurance plans, had a ten percent increase on their premiums price. Some states even rose by forty percent (Furchtgott-Roth 3). Middle class families cannot keep paying an arm and a leg for health insurance. Health insurance should not be a major issue for Americans, it should be
The goal of this paper is to explain the downfalls of Obamacare and share the stories of individuals affected negatively and directly by the approval of the policy. Although Obamacare set out with good intentions, many people are still left without health care coverage because of the constant revisions of the bill. There have been many taxes raised for the approval of this policy, and has caused problems for individuals who do not want coverage under Obamacare but would want coverage under a different company. Obamacare has helped some, but has caused other problems that would make it a bill that should be up for repeal.
After one of the most grueling presidential races in American history, the populous candidate Donald Trump has been elected by the American people as our next president. While campaigning, one of the first things that Trump vowed to accomplish in office was to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (donaldjtrump.com). Trump should have no trouble doing this with the support of both the Republican senate and the Republican House. The consequences of what exactly will be done is a constantly argued topic and the phrase “repeal and replace Obamacare” has become a sort of buzzword in the media.
