To President Obama,
Child soldiers start off young, using dangerous weapons. One soldiers nickname was one hundred because he started off so young it seemed like a hundred years he had known how to use a gun. Therefore making him the youngest of the group to learn how to use an AK-47. And the worst part of that is, before he even joined the war, he hadn’t had a thought. A single thought to kill. In essence, child soldiers are brutally forced to commit war crimes against their will. I am writing this letter to you so you can do something about it because I, me alone. I don’t have the power to change anything but you do. So I decided to show you, the leader of our nation how the public feels about child soldiers and maybe afterwards you will

According to amnesty international, there are 24 countries that battle there wars alongside with children. Ishmael Beah, given the opertuinity to flee, partook in an interview by CBS television station. He talked about how “there is no running from the war”. He also said “they would kill your family so there is nowhere to run”. He also said he was “given drugs” so you are “hooked” onto them so they can “manipulate” you.
Most child soldiers loose there family. Others have been stolen themselves but ultimately, they have nowhere to run too, and end up either going to the war or forced to go to the war. So they are shown graphic images and exploit sights. They are exposed to graphic and explicit photos at such a young age. Some don’t even know what they are looking at. Not to mention, in an article by the guardian that says “some child soldiers rape women”. “I do it because it makes me feel good” one solider says.
In conclusion, child soldiers should be forgiven. It is not their fault for the scary acts they have done. They are forced to do these things threw drug addiction and death promises. It should not be there fault because they want to protect their lives! Would you want to protect your life on all means necessary? And I bet you would
Child Soldiers Ishmael Beah once said “My squad is my family, my gun is my provider, and protector, and my rule is to kill or be killed”(Beah 116). Most children live a normal and happy life, but not all children live that way. Some children hold baseball bats while others hold guns larger than they are; some children dodge dodgeballs, others dodge bullets. Most children go home to see their parents or guardians, child soldiers often go “home” to their squads and Lieutenants. Child soldiers can be rehabilitated if civilians and officials aren’t indifferent .
First off, child soldiers are held against their will to do dangerous tasks that they have no say in. In an article interviewing Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier, he states, "Somebody being shot in front of you, or you yourself shooting somebody became just like drinking a glass of water. Children who refused to fight, kill or showed any weakness were ruthlessly dealt with.”
No, it should not be about holding child soldiers responsible for their actions. Instead, it should be about getting children like Beah inserted into rehabilitation. The child soldiers are trained to be horrible they can’t help themselves. “We had been fighting for over two years, and killing had become a daily activity…My childhood had gone by without my knowing, and it seemed as if my heart had frozen,”(page 127). Beah has been deprived of his childhood and all he knows is the war. Like teen gang members, he’s brainwashed into thinking and acting the way he does, while being told it’s the right thing to do. He’s growing up around a cycle of violence; everyday is a struggle to stay alive. Beah has been denied his childhood since the day the
Recently, two million children have died over the past ten years due to becoming a child soldier. A huge deplorable development that has extended recently is the increase of child soldiers. Children are constantly being used as soldiers for various reasons. In some countries, there are more child soldiers than they are adults because children are more compliant. Children have been exploited as soldiers because they are being recruited to do a violent action, it is difficult for them to, later on, assimilate back to their lives, and child soldiers are regularly used in developing countries.
A lot of the children interviewed within the first chapter of Peter W. Singer’s book Children at War are under the age of 12. They speak of torturing people in the most horrific of ways. Such as when joining the paramilitaries, A., age twelve, states that the first thing they make you do is kill someone. A random person is picked for the recruits to chop off his hands and arms. It is important to realize however, that not all of these child soldiers are as young as 7. Singer explains that a “A ‘child soldier’ is generally defined (under both international law and common practice) as any person under eighteen years of age who is engaged in deadly combat or combat support as part of an armed force or group.” What is most horrendous is
“Freedman breaks down the Great War into key battles and issues, covering the causes of the war, the leaders, the modern weapons and technology, and the war 's consequences. Firsthand accounts of allied and German soldiers are presented as well.”(Miller). The start of the war that every country was part of. It was the War that changed everybody 's lives. The War was an outbreak to to all of the countries. “Only when the world went to war again in the 1930s and ’40s did the earlier conflict become known as the First World War. Its casualty totals were unprecedented, soaring into the millions. World War I is known for the extensive system of trenches from which men of both
What are child soldiers? Child soldiers are people under eighteen who partake in either a regular or irregular armed group in any way. According to Warchild there are an estimated 250,000 child soldiers in the world and often as a part of their recruitment they are forced to either kill or maim a loved one so that they cannot go back home. In Ishmael Beah’s novel A Long Way Gone (Memoirs of a Boy Soldier) the author recounts his life as a child soldier fighting on the government side in Sierra Leone from age thirteen to sixteen. This paper will be attempting to answer the questions of why certain armed groups use children, why it is wrong to do so, and how people are taking a stand to stop it.
Child soldiers are victims because they were drugged with cocaine and marijuana so then the kids will do what they were told, but i think child soldiers should get amnesty because they had no control of going into war or staying out of war. These kids were drugged and threatened to do all of these things and if the kids didn't do it then they would be shot or most likely killed.
First off, child soldiers are often forced to be recruited. “Often they are abducted at school, on the streets or at home.” ("From Cradle to War." Amnesty International. Amnesty International USA, Web. 3 May 2016.) Almost all child soldiers are forced to do things as a soldier that they wouldn’t actually do, such as hurt or kill others. So although some child soldiers want to hurt or kill, most don’t want to. So obviously, most child soldiers are forced to do bad things that they don’t want to do, and wouldn’t do if they hadn’t become a soldier.
Some people may say that child soldiers are not morally responsible for their actions due to many reasons. Normally, child soldiers are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. This means that they were not in the right state of mind when they made their decisions. A child's brain isn't
Are you aware that right now, at this very moment, there is a group of young boys ages 8-13 who are clenching a gun being ordered to kill against their will? It’s understood that others opinions about the dangers of child soldiers being free are only because they don’t want to risk anything but, isn’t life all about taking risks? You risk your life leaving the house, and breathing. Also, countries should not prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime. There also should not be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Here are three reasons why they should not be prosecuted or held responsible. Also that there should not be an age limit. One. Children are afraid, young, and clueless. Two. Children are 99.99% of the time drugged, forced, and brainwashed. “Children are often brainwashed and drugged before they are forced to fight. Their vulnerability can allow warlords to make them into cold-blooded killers” (O'Neill 1 ). Three. Children are independent, lonesome, and they want/need a family. One that gives them love.
The use of child soldiers have become a normal contribution to armies, especially in countries such as Africa. Although, countries such as Afghanistan, India, and Libya have been using child soldiers since 2011. According to “Children in Conflict: Child Soldiers,” there has been 36 countries involved since 1998. Something needs to be done about this issue due to the fact that thousands of
Children all across world are being exploited as child soldiers. Everyday kids younger the age of 10 are putting their lives on the line mostly by force. ¨Over the last ten years, two million children have been killed in conflict. Over one million have been orphaned, over six million have been seriously injured or permanently disabled and over ten million have been left with serious psychological trauma.¨(Children In Conflict). A child soldier is a child with armed forces; they’re trained to fight, cook, be porters, messengers, informant spies, etc. Countries all across the world have been using children to fight, places like the United Kingdom, Africa, and Asia lean on children to do their dirty work regardless of what laws are put into place for recruitment age.
The Pharaohs are some of the greatest people in the Egyptians history. They ruled the Egypt lands they were powerful people they had pyramids built in their honor. But as powerful as they were the universe is more powerful than them.
The death penalty gives humans in our legal system rights to decide who deserves to live, a power only God should possess. Capital Punishment takes away our rights as equals. From its origins, the death penalty has been an inhumane, costly, ineffective, and biased form of punishment that needs to be abolished granting everyone their right to live.
