For Heather Nusbaum, movement is life. And it’s her new business too, Nutree Fitness opened January 7 across from Killeen High School on North 38th Street. Nusbaum, 39, is a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified trainer with additional specialties in Corrective Exercise, Performance Exercise, P90x, and Melt Hand and Feet, TRX Level 1 &2, PIYO and K9 Fit Club. “One of the reasons I got into physical training was through fitness, I was able to solve my pain and realized if I could do that for me, I could do it for others,” Nusbaum said. Her journey of physical transformation started more than five years ago when she realized that she weighed two pounds less than her Army husband, Eric Johnson, with his linebacker shoulders. It’s Nusbaum’s brainchild and her facility is Central Texas’ only center that offers fitness classes for owners and their dogs together. Currently, she is the only physical trainer certified to teach the class. “The program is designed to create a safe and fun environment for you and your canine companion to get fit and healthy,” said Naubaum.. During the 45-minute class, the owners with their dogs went through a series of exercises starting with a warm-up. The paced increased as the they rotated among four stations, one included free weights for people to use, while another had a balance ball for the owner and dog. When the owners squatted or did planks, they received wet kisses and wagging tails, but the dogs behaved welled and worked out just as hard. Nusbaum mentioned that a goal is to build relationships with veterinarian clinics to help their pet clients that also have weight and medical issues. Dexter, a mutt, lacked some social skills with the other dogs, but his energy surprised his owner. “He did better than I thought he would do,” said Marlys Smith, who is taking training with Nusbaum for her back pain. Fiesty Tina, a terrier and Chihuahua mix, seemed to bark out commands to her owner Alysia Perkins to keep up the pace. “I enjoyed it and I think she did too because it’s hard to get home after work to play with her,” said Perkins, a personal trainer. “It was a good bonding time,” she said. Whether looking to lose those last 10 stubborn pounds, or just trying to bulk up your muscle percentages, Crossfit is one of the most popular workout programs out there for getting in shape. While Crossfit employs a variety of WOD (Workout of the Day) options, here are five of the top exercises for helping you build muscle.
CrossFit is an intense exercise program that features high-intensity workouts. CrossFit athletes perform dynamic exercises like Olympic lifts and plyometric jumps. This workout program uses non-traditional equipment such as sand-bags, kettlebells, water-filled implements and suspension systems. Participants are challenged to do a certain number of repetitions in a workout in a specific time frame. These workouts are intense and involve very fast movements. Agility, flexibility, balance and power are all important concepts in CrossFit workouts. Due to the intensity and precise movements involved in a CrossFit workout, this type of exercise must be performed on a reliable and stable
Everyone knows how important exercise is for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but for most people, the gym can be an intimidating place. There are copious machines and options, which makes it hard to develop a routine that will work for you.
Canines also help improve a person’s social and emotional health. In the 2009 New York Times Magazine, Melissa Fay Greene, writes about Karen Shirk in her article titled, “Wonder Dog”. Karen Shirk, a thirty-year-old woman diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a rare neuromuscular disease, noticed the change in herself and people around her. Strangers greeted the tubed up woman in the motorized chair whenever her dog, Ben, her German Shepard, was around. The despair she said she had once felt was now replaced with optimism and ambition. In present day, Karen Shirk is now CEO of her own facility, which she named 4 Paws For Ability, for cognitively impaired adults and children. In Lisa Field’s article “ 6 Ways Pets Can Improve Your Health”, Field’s
School has started for these pups at the Hero Dogs training program to help the people in need, such as veterans. These adorable little puppies will become helping heros when training in this 2-year program. The puppies learn simple commands and skills, like shutting the doors or walking up the stairs. Each dog is assigned to a veteran based on their energy, behavior, and skills. It also depends on the veteran’s lifestyle and needs. The dogs are trained to be calming, to help anxiety, or to be empathic when things are difficult. These dogs always lived a special life.
My assignment is to write a critique paper on the facility named “Planet Fitness”. Planet Fitness is a gym that labels itself rather as a “fitness club” that aspires people of all ages, weights and heights to come and hit the gym. Planet Fitness promises a judgement free environment, allowing for even your most introvert and shy gym goers to enjoy their workout without feeling self-conscious because of other gym attendee’s opinions. On the workout floor, their facilities are equipped with mostly cardio machines, with some weight machines and an abdominal exercise area. Within the locker rooms, they come well equipped for serving mass amounts of gym goers at a time. The locker rooms include showers, sinks, and toilets, urinals in the male locker

I stop exercising six months ago and realized how much it impacts my day to day performance. When I used to work out I would just go to the gym and follow a strict schedule, doing the same exercises week after week. My schedule was as follows, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I would perform squats, bench presses, and bent over rows. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would do deadlifts, overhead press, dips, and pullups. After a while it gets very boring, and I stopped pushing myself to my limits. One of my friends had been telling me to try CrossFit and initially I was not sure I wanted to get into CrossFit, because all the people I have met that did CrossFit let it take over their lives. It is almost like a cult. On February 2,2018 I did my first WOD at Rocktown CrossFit in Harrisonburg Virginia. A WOD is an acronym for workout of the day. The workouts are usually only thirty minutes long, but we warm up as a group, so every time I go to the gym I am there for
Something that has impacted my life immensely is CrossFit, and for this reason, I will be doing my I-Search on it. CrossFit teaches healthy lifestyles and encourages one to be the best that one can be. The purpose of choosing this topic is for me to better understand the science of exercising and health. I hope to gain knowledge about why and how it is so highly effective. I also hope I am able to inform people about Crossfit being the most different, unique, insane, challenging and rewarding sport that there is. Crossfit is more than just a workout. It's a lifestyle that one chooses to live. I have learned to prioritize my health before anything else. Crossfit is also a place one can go to let go of any kind of stress, to learn camaraderie

We all know that theory of a healthy body: eat well and be as active as possible. However, we all have problems when it comes to putting that theory in practice. The diet part is manageable for most of us, because the concept of a healthy diet is relative and we all see it differently. Moreover, whether we like it or not, we all have to eat something. However, working out is indeed a challenge. It requires a lot of effort, time and even money. So, what can we do in order to rip the benefits of working out, with as little effort as possible. The answer is pretty simple: we need to try a high intensity type of workout that burns more calories in less time. This way, we can save a lot of time and see results faster. While there are several types of workouts that promise fast results, Crossfit is the one that actually delivers its promise. Keep reading to find out why Crossfit is different than any other workouts.
It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. In the last 14,000 years, dogs have accompanied man by helping him hunt, guard, and protect. In our modern world, dogs help us combat in war, search-and-rescue, guide the blind, deaf, discapacitated, rehabilitate patients in therapy, aid law enforcement, and are part of our family as beloved pets (Coren). Although canine superstars such as Lassie, Old Yeller, and Rin Tin Tin portray the perfect dog we all want in our lives, these ideals are far from the truth. Many first-time dog owners expect dogs to know behaviors such as how to walk on a leash, not bite, not destroy the house, and in addition to many others. In reality, dogs must be trained on what their handler wants them to do. It is
I did not know anything about this type of training until I observed this training session and an employee explained the method and the reason behind it. I found that it was really interesting the way the training worked and how it helped Millie in just one session.
Currently I am going through a bit of a transition. Recently my 6-year-old dog Jaci, who has stayed with my family (parents, and 2 other dogs) all her life has now moved in to live with me in my apartment. I hired a dog trainer, so that she may have a smooth transition. Upon meeting with the trainer, I explained to him that Jaci’s biggest issue is separation anxiety. After working with him, I learned that for her anxiety to disappear and for her to live up to her full potential, I as her owner would have to gain her confidence by demonstrating better leadership skills in all areas of her life (walking on a leash, coming down the stairs, going through doors, etc.). To my dismay, the dog trainer didn’t come to train Jaci, he came to train
