I have currently been teaching clinicals for two different colleges. This requires a lot of leadership. I am also a resource for new nurses. I am extremely approachable and easy to communicate with. I find that even with nurses who have experience often come to me with questions. I am also currently orienting a new nurse to the hospital. I enjoy teaching, and learning new things. I also have recently finished my Masters in the Science of Nursing with an emphasis in Education. This is something I was continuously taking initiative, and assuming responsibility with several group projects.
Within my community I volunteer with the Iowa City Eels swim team for several years. I have worked several swim meets. I have also helped with food drives and several things with Boy Scouts. I believe being active in the community and community service is vital to build a community up. I have been volunteering my

The community is very diverse. My husband and I have several friends who are from all over the world such as Germany, Zambia, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. I also have several friends and family from different socio-economic status, disabilities, and sexual orientation. I am fascinated about different cultures. I am constantly learning about new cultures because I enjoy it. I strive to be culturally competent. I try to stay up to date on the HIV/Aids epidemic, and the Half the Sky movement. I believe this helps me stay a well-rounded person.
I have had several life experiences that it is hard to narrow down just one. The biggest accomplishment I have ever had in my life is adopting my son. This was an extremely hard time in my life due to a 4 year court battle, and only being 18 years old in the beginning of it. I am happy to say that I followed my heart, I never gave up, and I did what I thought was right. My son is now 18 years old and he will graduate high school this May. He is my greatest
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner Student (FNP) at Frontier Nursing University (FNU). My passion to care for people was evident when I was growing up and I knew I wanted to become a nurse and care for the sick when I cared for my grandmother who was not feeling well. After high school, I started my career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) and worked with the elderly population which I really enjoyed. I worked as a CNA as I enrolled to school and earned my Associate degree in nursing in 2011. As an RN, I continued to work in a nursing home and rehab facility with the elderly as I decided to pursue my BSN. Upon completion of my BSN I found a job at a hospital in cardiac telemetry heart failure unit where I enjoy working as I care for people.
I have worked in every area of the hospital and nursing homes in my nineteen years of clinical practice as a nurse. I have excelled and enjoyed the care that I have provided over the years. I have been a charge nurse wherever I have worked and enjoyed brainstorming and critically thinking through what needed to be done for a patient when they were not doing well. I have prevented many code blues and have been a preceptor to many excellent nurses.
Diversity enhances my life, when people have an understanding of my needs and I have an understanding of theirs. As an ex sailor, in the Royal Navy, I have been lucky enough to travel and witness many cultures. I was extremely lucky to be invited to an Indian wedding once, which was an experience I will cherish.
I have been fortunate enough to gain experiences that have effectively taught me how to be a leader and work together with a team and I am confident I will be able to apply this to my nursing career more
I have a Master’s Degree in nursing and am a proud graduate of Mount St. Mary’s University. My two years of volunteer experience in the past as an Assistant Nurse at White Memorial Medical Center helped me realize and implement clinal duties I learned during my course of education. In addition, I currently work as a registered nurse at Glendale Memorial Hospital and I am determined to venture out into other hospitals to gain more experience.
I am in my third year of the nursing program at Viterbo University and have gained experience through my clinical rotations. I have a passion for helping people and through nursing I will be able to do that every day I go to work. I have worked as a certified nursing assisted at an assisted living facility and gained many vital skills in caring for people. I learned the importance of teamwork and keeping the well being of the residents or patients my sole focus.
In my school, I made sure to promote diversity and welcome students. Since middle school I became interested in learning about different cultures and languages. I was fascinated with the variety of cultures and how each of them differs from my own. The beauty of languages enraptured me, how each syllable rolled off the tongue delicately. The mystery behind the languages as I am compelled to listen to a language I do not understand. My interest in culture and language drew me to join Global Buddies in my high school.
I assume that transitioning from the expert staff nurse to the novice NP status will arise many challenges. Thus, my first goal is to find a work environment that supports professional nursing practice and individual development. I believe that organizations that empower professional nurses and promote visibility of the NP role have administrations that are open to NP’s suggestions to improve patient care. An organization like this will allow me to participate in clinical-decision making and become involved in the organizational governance (i.e. being a member of a committee), and improve my indirect care processes and skills. Despite the fact that direct care activities will account for most of my time as an NP, I will eventually like to undertake indirect care activities on patients’ and staff behalf, (i.e. coordination of care, conducting teaching/in-services to patient/family/caregiver, research, etc). Engaging in direct and indirect activities related to patient management will help me develop
I've very adaptive to new technology such as programs used for online documentation and electronic MARS. Other registered staff in my unit often comes to me for problem solving and troubleshooting with our online documentation program. I always put my patients first and I take the time to listen to my patients & families, no matter how busy my schedule may be. I work well under pressure and in a solo or team environment. I strive to become more knowledgeable in nursing in order to provide the best care I can to my clients In order to excel at my profession and passion I need to do everything I can to make myself better. As part of that, I did not stop with Bachelors, I did my masters, then I did Medical-surgical certification & I am also certified preceptor, have certification from UCF. My upbringing developed my core beliefs of community, family, loyalty, compassion and honesty. It also taught me that all things worthwhile require hard work. I love being a nurse, but recognize my yearning for more. I love nursing and have enjoyed my time as a floor nurse although my work experiences are acutely based, I have observed the direct relation between primary and acute care. As a nurse primarily working with patients, I have observed how patient miseducation, miscommunication, and
I promote safety, am eager to learn, and constantly look for ways to develop and grow as a nurse.
As nurses we had the opportunity to care for all varieties of patients. I was trained to be a surgical open heart nurse and have had the privilege to care for these patients for the last seven years. As I developed in my nursing abilities I was asked to precept new graduate nurses as well as nurses new to the unit. Serving in the capacity of preceptor and teacher is a role that I love.
According to my family and cultural values, I have learnt to respect and understand other cultures and their beliefs. I always try to increase my awareness of the various dimensions of diversity. I always try to examine my own cultural identity and how that identity affects my relationships with others. In my opinion it is really important to become more aware of my own attitudes, perceptions, and feelings about various aspects of diversity. As an educator I think it is really important to make a commitment to increase an understanding of diversity.
My father was in and out of the hospital for various forms of cancer throughout my young adult life. During his final battle, he had a nurse who demonstrated excellent compassion and advocacy, which I will never forget. My father kept telling us that he didn’t want to die in the hospital, but he wasn’t stable enough to transfer home due to various drips and needing bipap. Every breath was a struggle, and it was difficult for everyone in the room to listen to his agonal breathing and to see the fear on his face. His IV morphine was ordered as every four hours as needed.
While most seniors had already committed to a college around March and the beginning of April, I found myself stuck. I have been running against the clock in order to weigh the costs and benefits, find out what is most important to me in a college, and ultimately, make the proper, knowledgeable decision. I have been constantly going back and forth with my parents on attending a two year college versus a four year, and a regional campus versus a main campus, and decided to make the decision regarding what matters most to me. Throughout narrowing my choices down I am proud to say that I have made the decision to attend Northern Kentucky University, just nine days before the deadline. Though it is not the financially smart decision, I believe
When I hear the words culture and diversity there are many things that come to mind. Growing up I lived in a diverse neighborhood, went to very diverse schools', kindergarten through high school, and I went to church groups that eventually lead to me getting the opportunity to experience a whole new country and culture during my mission trip. All of these things have contributed to my knowledge and appreciation of the diversity and culture in my life. Learning about these things has helped me keep an open mind about the humans that surround me every day. It has also helped me to become more aware of human rights and the way it has affected our world and our culture.
