My inspiration to pursue a lifelong career in nursing derived from witnessing a close individual succumb to a painful and chronic disease when I was the tender age of 6. Having stood beside my husband for nine months as he struggled through a massive brain injury gave me a firsthand perspective of the power of nurses. Although I had been a new nurse at the time, this experience completely changed my viewpoint. Their compassion, empathy, knowledge, and trust was unprecedented and helped me through many painful days. Devastatingly, after a courageous fight, my husband passed away. This was undoubtedly the most heartbreaking experience in my life.

My calling to nursing started when my father got diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. I watched him suffering through radiation and chemotherapy, but what got him through those hard times was the help of some great loving and caring nurses. As I became more involved in taking care of him, my passion for nursing had greatly increased. Now, for nine years, I have maintained a commitment to caring for others in the field of Nursing. Being a registered nurse (RN), I have taken care of one patient at a time, which I have been involved in the amelioration of lives, and have only been left wanting to give and do more. Pursuing a master of science in nursing (MSN) is more than just a logical or natural progression for my career. It is a life choice, one that is backed by highly refined clinical judgments and in-depth exposure to an array of set-ups, and levels of care. In this personal statement, I will deeper highlight an explanation of my career goals, the reasons for my choice of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialization, and lastly the reason for pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.

"What do you want to be when you grow up?", the question most of us have been asked at least once during our childhood years. Most kids would firmly response that they want to be either a doctor, teacher, fireman or policeman. Unlike them, I never really knew what I wanted to do until I reached the age of fifteen. When my grandfather was diagnosed with colon cancer and was very ill to take care of himself, my family and I were determined to dedicate our time to provide him care along with love and attention that he needed. The experience that I gained while I was looking after my grandfather was very valuable and influential.

I am very proud to say that I have been working in caring profession for the last 10 years. I am very passionate about this profession and enjoy each and every moment and giving a high standard of care by lifting the spirit of the patients. I have experienced many different care roles in a variety of situation in this country and abroad and which inspired me a lot to take the nursing training. Recently I have finished the assistant Practitioner (AP) Degree in Bedfordshire University with excellent grades.

Whilst studying case studies, brainstorming and thinking critically helped with finding a diagnosis, it also made me aware and appreciative of how even minute details can make a big difference to the overall picture put together by the patient history. I have been able to apply the theory from my degree in a clinical setting, by working as a bank clinical support worker on different wards. This has allowed me to see first-hand the various ways a disease affects a patient and enabled me to get a realistic idea of what it is like working in a healthcare environment. Having hand over has taught me the importance of clear communication and teamwork in providing excellent patient care. I have learnt that being attentive, empathetic and maintaining integrity helps patients feel as ease, in particular during personal care.
