One of the advantages is the coordination of care for the patient and the sharing of knowledge to improve the outcomes for the patient. Challenges for interprofessional team collaboration is: poor role-definition, miscommunication, conflict, lack of accountability for assignment of responsibilities and tasks (Reeves, 2012). This paper will discussion the role of a nurse on an interprofessional team and the challenges, why interprofessional teams promote patient safety, and strategies to promote success interprofessional teams.

Nursing is known to be one of the most challenging careers, owing to the tough responsibilities that nurse practitioners are charged with and the immense sensitivity of their role (Li, 2013). Both Registered nurses and nurse practitioners work together monitoring a range of patients’ health and providing them with adapt care needed within their scope of practice. However, the roles and the responsibilities they bestowed are different. Creating a balance between a tough job and the extremely sensitive wellbeing of a patient, which lies in the decisions that a nurse practitioner makes, does surely propel one to the pinnacle of clinical nursing. In order to improve the quality of patient care and ensure that the goals of care are being achieved, many settings are using the collaborative care delivery model. The collaborative “approach involves teams of health professionals working together to provide more coordinated and comprehensive care to clients,” (Kearney 2008). An interprofessional team can consist of nurses, physicians, care technologists nutritionists, counselors, physical therapists, educators, care givers and the patient. These members work together for the common purpose of enhancing the wellness of a particular patient.

The health care system must change to improve our nation’s health and takes strong steps to address the unsustainable growth of health care costs in America. We still have a long way to go before our health system become effective. We still have population that do not have insurance, have difficulties accessing their health care, or their needs are not met within the healthcare system. It is an investment in prevention and wellness and increasing access to primary care physician.

As a child grows its needs change and its social environment adapts to respond to those needs; contrastingly, as a system grows it must change and adapt to adequately respond to the needs of its users. The ever-present quality of the human society to undergo transformation and expansion entails that the underlying systems upholding its effective functioning must parallel educational, technological and social advancements in order to avoid being thrown into disarray. One of the largest systems in the United States is the healthcare industry. Being a vital necessity of any developed society, structured functioning of the healthcare industry is one of the primary concerns of any governing body and new regulative steps are continually taken to ensure that health care is accessible to all members of society.

The future and direction of health care has been the topic of discussion amongst politician and U.S citizens today. There are several challenges surrounding the future and strategic direction in which health care should be heading. Accreditation, quality of health care and organization’s compliance; access to health care, maintaining a skilled workforce, information technology and pay for performance are some of the challenges that currently presenting itself in healthcare today. If health care is not dealt with appropriately it will have a significant effect an impact on the strategic direction in the future and direction of care.

The capacity to work with other clinicians from various disciplines, in delivery of quality care through joint effort, is an essential feature needed in health care profession. Additionally, it is through effective and skilled professional communication of health care professionals that the patients and family members are able to receive quality care and outcomes. The interprofessional collaboration is affected by the environmental conditions, as well as health care conditions. The impact of these factors, significance, and the management have greatly influenced the health care delivery. In order to enhance the knowledge of the future generation of nurses, designed models are needed, to demonstrate how collaboration works in clinical settings.

In light of these challenges, a need for review and reform of our healthcare practices has become apparent.
