My adrenaline was rushing as fast as the blood pooling in his mouth. I could see his eyes rolling in the back of his beaten head. I immediately turned the stranger on his side to prevent him from choking on his blood and shouted for a bystander to call 9-1-1. Next, I checked for his pulse and listened for breathing. Fortunately, this victim of assault was going to be okay. I had desired to be a nurse for years, but the smile I wore proudly from helping a stranger further confirmed my desire. To me a career as a nurse signifies being able to ease patients harrowing situations with my notable compassionate nurture, permits a continuous increase in knowledge fulfilling my fascination with human physiology, and provides an empowering future for myself and my daughter with opportunity to advance in the health field. …show more content…

As devastating as this news was I never saw my mom’s optimism diminish, despite that the nurses caring for her were disheartening and spoke about her diagnosis as a death sentence. I felt remorseful leaving my mom with pessimistic nurses and I vowed to my future patients that I’d be encouraging and understanding. Being a nurse means being someone’s strength when they are at their weakest. I sympathize with patients and their families going through bleak circumstances and know my compassionate nature can comfort others. As a nurse I will pride myself on providing care that leaves a positive impact on people for the rest of their lives by genuinely listening to their needs as if they were
