According to American Nurses Association, (2015), Nursing Information technology has contributed tremendously to the improvement of population health by optimizing information management and communication, (American Nurses Association, (2015). In the pursuit of improvement in the healthcare delivery system, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) developed specific technology competencies for nurses. However, the nurses will have to identify where they need training and improvements to perform their duties efficiently. According to Doris Fisher in this week two media,” nurses need a good foundation in, and good base of the information technology to be able to perform their duties.” (Laureate Education (Producer). (2012d)).

It is hard to believe that already eight weeks of class has come to an end but throughout that time my knowledge related to nursing informatics has expanded considerably. Therefore, my knowledge gain should be inevitably measured and evaluated by eight-course outcomes posed at the beginning of this term.

For this course paper, I will be analyzing the website Learning Nurse Resources Network. I believe that this website has great potential to help advance my growth and development in education. Learning Nurse immediately caught my interest as I am currently a nursing student. I was definitely interested in what this website had to offer and how it would relate to what I have been learning in my courses so far. Not only would this website immensely benefit me as a learning student and future nurse, but also encourage me to look at the website from the view of a professional educator.

The growth of nursing from the time of Florence Nightingale to our present generation has really evolved were nurses us to be at the bedside caring for wounded soldiers, showering and toileting of patients to a more advanced critical thinking and analyzing information that has been collected for proper processing. It is time to take nursing to another level that will save our patients and the community as a whole. One of the advantages of informatics is the safety of our patients so they are not hurt from the cares we provide. As explained in the American Nurses Association (2015) there is much assurance in the safety of our patient and health care providers. Even though the goal of the health industry is to integrate the health care in the IT world, nurses need to properly master the technology and be competent users. Gugerty & Delaney (2009) explained in their article the need for a nurse to meet up with the fundamentals of informatics in other to provide safe and competent care. Therefore, every organization has to work hard to prove their employees with the resources needed to achieve this milestone. Striving to meet up with this new technology as a nurse, my goal is to be proficient at informatics so that I can safely take care of my patients.

This course really developed my self as a nurse, and it will help me in giving care to actual clients in the real world as well. First of all, this course taught us all about Florence Nightingale, who is viewed as one of the first nursing theorists. Her becoming a nurse, her practices as a nurse, her theory, her tenets, and most importantly, her being one of the most influential figures, even as of this very day. In this course, through essay writing we understood more about how Florence Nightingale’s theory and practices are still relevant today. We were able to connect her tenets to the real world programs. This can really help us in giving care because we learnt about how her practices are applied and so we are also able to apply her practices while providing clients care.
