When people think about the civil war they often think of the south supporting slavery and the north being against it. However, that is not completely accurate. The stereotypical belief for The South and North were that in the South there was slavery and plantations where in the North there were factories and abolition. Everyone believed that Northern abolitionists didn't support slavery and wanted it completely gone. Abolitionist did want it gone but they also needed slaves for there job to make money. In Biddeford Maine during the Civil War there were mills and in the mills there was a textile company and they made cloth. There were some abolitionists that worked in the textile companies and they used the cotton to make clothing
