Throughout the course of history, countless cultures have created their own forms of myths and legends to explain the world around them and to have a higher power to believe in. The Vikings were no exception. They created a religion based on their Norse mythology had a difficult origin. Norse mythology originally was called Teutonic because it consist of Scandinavia and Germany mytho. However, this mytho was mostly worshiped by Norse people-also known as vikings-during the Middle Ages, this gave its more common name ( Leonard 1). The myths and legends in this mytho were mostly written in what they called the Edda. The Edda is a term that refers to two separate works of medieval Icelandic literature. Religion likewise impacted the Viking society; Vikings had their own religion where they worshipped Gods Odin, Thor, and Frey. Odin was the god of every single Norse god and goddesses. He accepted to live in a home of gods being called "Asgard." Vikings trusted that in the event that they kicked the bucket in a fight; they would be sent to a heaven they called "Valhalla. According to the Christian’s stories and traditions, Odin hung himself from a tree and a pagan servant stabbed him in his side with a Speer just like Romans did to Christ. "
However, the three most important were: Odin who was the God of warriors, wisdom, and even poetry, Thor who was the God of thunder, farmers, and seafarers, and Frey, who was the God of fertility, marriage, and things that grew. They believed that their Gods walked among them every day in the human form. I think that their religion is really fascinating because each of their Gods has a backstory and I find listening to their stories to be really magical. I have heard many stories about the way their Gods were, but living in that time to hear their stories and experience it in person would be
Vikings were a group of people from Scandanavia (modern-day Denmark, Norway and Sweden) who navigated the North Atlantic and Baltic Regions, sailing to destinations in the south to North Africa, and east to Russia, Constantinople (“Istanbul”) and the Middle East, as ‘hit-and-run’ looters, traders and colonists. Notably, the Vikings were seen as a barbaric clan by their victims, especially to those in Europe with whom they had an imposing influence. Equally, as the Old Norse (the language of the Norsemen) translation of the word ‘Viking’ signifies, the Vikings were feared as fierce and ruthless pirates. However, most of these people may not have called themselves Vikings since only a few engaged in raiding and pillaging, which was seen as a

The Norse gods, also referred to the Viking gods, live in a place called Asgard. In their myths there are 9 worlds from theirs which is Asgard (home of the Aesir), Vanaheim (home of the Vanir), Jotuheim (home of the giants), Midgard (home of the humans) to many more (actually five more to be exact). The leader of Asgard is Odin (also refer to as the all-father) is the father to many but his most famous son is Thor. Where the movies made the gods heroes, it’s not so true in this story where they leave Chris Hemsworth in the scenes, and show you the true myths about Thor.
For centuries Vikings were pagans. People who believed in many gods and goddesses. These gods were called Norse gods, or known as gods of the north. Norse gods were not immortal but they ate golden apples from one of their goddesses that let them stay healthy and fit for life. 2.
The gods were very important to Vikings, who strongly believed that deities existed. The gods were worshipped as a community but usually, only a few of the gods played a big part in individual’s life, while the reasons for worshipping the gods could be either fear or admiration. The Vikings had few different kinds of religious practices - sacrificial feasts, family rituals and rites of passage rituals (Brink & Price 2008). The most practiced ones were sacrificial feasts, which could be either big festivals or private events, during which most commonly animal sacrifices were made to gods to grant good harvest, peace, long life, victory and etc.

The name Viking came from the word viken in the Norway’s old name Oslo fjord. This term was to refer to the people coming from this region of Scandinavia. The word Viking has become synonymous with piracy (Goodrich R., 2013). Since the Viking were not able to write much of their history was recorded by the British and French for which they attacked on many occasions. Most of the attacks or raids the Vikings did were not about conquest of the people
The Vikings had a closely tied relationship between their culture and other cultures. You can see this because some of the stories from different parts of the world were put into their own stories. The story of the creation myth of Ymir is paralleled to the story of the Brahma. The stories of zombies from the African culture can be closely tied to stories of revenants that are in the Viking culture. A reason for some of these resonances may be because of the trade route they had; which was through the Mesopotamian, Byzantium, and the African worlds.
The Vikings were Norse seafarers, who mainly spoke the Old Norse language. They raided and traded from their Northern European homelands across wide areas of northern, central and eastern Europe, during the 9th to 11th century. The Vikings originated from Scandinavia, and the beginning of the Vikings expansion often originates from the raid of the Lindisfarne Monetary on 8 June 793. The Vikings were the first Westerners to sail to Iceland, Greenland, and over to the New World. However, the story of the Vikings is also an important story for the development of the Christian world in the West. Throughout this essay, I will explain the importance of Viking religion, Viking trade, and how the Viking age had an impact on the way Western and
