Museums have long served a purpose as cultural staples. For every museum, big and small, careful consideration is used in selecting its contents. When securing new items for a museum, it is most important to consider public appeal, educational value, and cost-effectiveness.

Sheltered amongst the trees along the Monongahela River, just 15 miles south of Pittsburgh, early travelers located some of the most fertile soil and picturesque landscape that they had ever laid their eyes on. A simply amazing discovery, the area was not only perfect for boat and ship building, but it offered a hub for various forms for incorporating businesses into the area, and it offered conditions perfect for liveability during the heat of summer and the brutal winters that western Pennsylvania is known for. Sometime during the mid to late 1700s, settlers from New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware began moving into the area now known as Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, taking advantage of the lush foliage and generous farmland that sat nestled

Three weeks ago I visited the Art Institute of Chicago. It was established in 1879 and has since expanded its collection to approximately three hundred thousand works. Attracting over one and a half million visitors annually, it is one of the largest art museums in the United States. The reason I chose this site is that I read that it displayed Georges Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, and I wanted to see it in person because it is so iconic.

Cleveland has been fortunate enough to have become home several popular museums, including The Cleveland Museum of Art. The museum is filled with impressive masterpieces from the beginning of human documented time to today’s world. This free exhibit offers an exciting, enjoyable experience to those of all ages and those of all backgrounds. From the interactive futuristic portions of the building, to the delicate works of the past, there is something at this museum to please each person’s artistic mindset.

The Whitney Museum of American Art has often been referred to a citadel of American Art, partially due to the museums façade, a striking granite building (Figure 1), designed by Bauhaus trained architect Marcel Breuer. The museum perpetuates this reference through its biennial review of contemporary American Art, which the Whitney has become most famous for. The biennial has become since its inception a measure of the state of contemporary art in America today.

I was born in Bronx New York, and moved when I was just about to start Kindergarten. I had a lot of family who still lived in the Bronx so I would spend a tremendous amount of time visiting my cousins. I guess you could say I was basically raised in the Bronx. As a child growing into my teen years I would hangout in the school playgrounds to play Basketball with my cousins and who ever wanted to play ball. I was first introduced to the N word when I was around 10 years old. I heard it while I was playing with my cousins and a group of older kids were sitting at a table talking. Recession was a great nightmare for recession brought with it multiple ideals of a troubled economy with regards to the community sufficiently offering services to the public. Cities across the United States have faced the toughest times in recent years with regards to healthcare service provision which has equally lead to closure of several hospitals. Focus for paper will reflect on the situation in the cities of Philadelphia, New York and Chicago; an look into the economic impact of the closure of the hospitals will be expounded upon in-depth as to establish an economic inference reference point economic levels in the said cities. The effect of tough economic times for the United States is evident in the closures of hospitals with some speculating that the facilities have fallen deep into debt as well as the situation is at the tipping point of getting worse in the near future with some cities even going to the extent of invoking the ideals of Chapter 9 bankruptcy (Dixon, Robertson, Appleby, John , Burge , & Delvin , 2011). The outline of this paper will be build upon analysis of individual hospital cases in the respective mentioned cities. The analysis will be founded on a critical point of view so as to culminate into a comprehensive economic analysis, together with the impact of the closure of city funded hospitals in the United States of America. The analysis on the impact will be narrowed particularly to the local communities.

New York City is made up of five boroughs, which include the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Within these boroughs, there are high and low-income neighborhoods that contain either high or low status organizational structures or facilities. Each division has their own characteristics and top attractions, such as the Empire State building, Central Park, or Times Square. As New York City may be known for great food and fun attractions, New York faces infrastructure problems within each borough. New York City’s infrastructure funding is limited in lower income neighborhoods, where money needed to upkeep the city goes toward prime tourist’s areas or residents living in high status neighborhoods, such as The Upper East Side of Manhattan, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, and Lenox Hill, Manhattan. Moreover, abandoned buildings, poor sewage conditions, and rocky roads and streets are examples of low-income area infrastructure problems that may hinder neighborhood growth both structurally and economically. Harlem, East Brooklyn, and South Bronx are low-income parts of New York that lack new and refined facilities, roads, plumbing, and fundamental structures, which contribute to high crime and arrests.

“Edward Hopper said that Nighthawks was inspired by ‘a restaurant on New York’s Greenwich Avenue where two streets meet.’” (About This Artwork, Nighthawks, p.1) Hopper had many inspirations for this painting, however, through events in his life, such as venues he had visited, and the era of art for which he was involved. Hopper was born in 1882, and he studied at the New York School of Art from 1900 to 1906, and he studied and worked in the fine arts. During the first part of his art career, Hopper was an illustrator who traveled around Europe, gaining inspiration from the areas he visited, as well as gain more knowledge to increase his skills in creating artworks. At first, he struggled to sell his artwork and create a name for himself so he could become more popular; even after he returned to the United States he had difficulties.

One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.

Never before have I seen a museum as grand as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. From its architecture to its massive art collection, The Met has a little bit of everything and one is sure to find something that captures his or her interest. Considering that The Met is the United States' largest art museum, it is easy to get lost within its many corridors and wings. My visit to The Met took place during the last week of July. Despite the almost unbearable heat and humidity that hung in the air, visiting museums under these climate conditions is a welcome respite from a suffocating, yet bright summer afternoon.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is the world’s leading modern art. Its exhibits have been a major influence in creating and stimulating popular awareness of modern art and its accompanying diversity of its styles and movements. The museum’s outstanding collections of modern painting, sculpture, drawings, and prints range from Impressionisms to current movements. Moreover, there are exhibits of modern architecture, industrial design, sculpture, photography, prints and electronic media. The museum presently has a modern art library of 300,000 books and impressive collections of films that are shown regularly. The Museum is said to be the complementary of the Metropolitan Museum

According to the American Alliance of Museums, community engagement in museums includes the use of this facility as “a center where people gather to meet and converse and an active, visible player in civic life, a safe haven, and a trusted incubator of change” (Long 141). Different museums

Every time I hear this song it makes me long to leave all of my responsibilities and head off to the city of dreams. A trip to New York has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I have always wanted to visit the place of tall buildings, history, and where culture is intertwined with its people. I have wanted to live the fast pace life of a New Yorker, where I could stand outside and see, smell, and taste all of the experiences that this city has to offer. I have been building and building this ideal image in my mind for so long. If I ever get to New York, will I be disappointed by the city that never sleeps? The city that is a part of almost every movie I watch. Can New York live up to the expectations I have
