For almost three-quarters of a century, the use of nuclear energy has brought its benefits and impediments among the thoughts of individuals living urban lifestyles. If humans are to solve the vast energy crisis that has been set upon humanity as a whole, they will be successful only if long term energy sources are acknowledged, for fossil fuels are simply a temporary source and will run out. Such alternatives to fossil fuels, excluding nuclear energy, include wind power, solar energy, biomass accumulation using vegetation, geothermal energy, and hydropower. These sources are generally regarded as being the most reasonable for long-term use by many, but, great opposition exists towards their use as well. Nuclear energy has proved to be of great importance within energy production, for it releases no harmful carbon emissions into the environment, and provides clean, affordable energy that never ceases, no matter the external influences of the surrounding environment. Still, a great deal of citizens of this world are unaware of the impacts of nuclear power whether it be positive or negative due to the fact that nuclear power has not existed as long as coal power has. However, as nuclear power becomes a major resource of energy, we as citizens must determine which is more fitting for not only us, but our environment. As this report continues on, you will come to find the history of each of these resources along with the advantages and disadvantages of each. Concluded from this research was the concept that nuclear power is worthier for America as a whole. Included below are the specific points as to why nuclear power is far superior for American citizens and our environment. Atomic energy production relies upon radioactive materials used as fuel to generate electricity; these fuels are highly toxic and volatile substances that are lethal to all forms of life. In the event of a technical malfunction, or natural disaster, these dangerous substances can escape into the environment where they will remain disruptive for centuries. The nuclear power plant at Fukushima Daiichi in Japan is one such example of this, but alarmingly, many nuclear power plants are built along geological fault lines, in tsunami regions, and other dangerous weather zones all across the globe. Being a moderate size for an Asian country, Korea had potential to be a great country but faced numerous competitors such as China and Japan. The base of Korea’s macro-economy comes from the colonial period during the late 1890’s to early 1900’s when rail ways and communication lines were expanded, medical practices advanced, and the education systems were enhanced to improve the country and with hopes to raise GDP in the long run (Cha). This ground work for Korea may have been a difficult process in the beginning but would pay off by making transportation easier, which in the bigger picture makes business more open and inexpensive, increasing life expectancy, and raising human capital with the raised importance and quality of education. Looking forward in long run GDP, these advancements would add to consumption, investment, government spending and could eventually add to net exports; all of which are components to Gross Domestic Product.
Climate change is beginning to become more and more of a serious problem in today’s modern age. It’s because we use too many fossil fuels like gas, coal, and oil.
