New England Colony
Are they ready for war?
We the people whom live in thee New England Colonies who were originally from Great Britain called Puritans and Pilgrims are more of the peaceful type of people whom worship God. We are people whom want to change the Church of England but saw no change, so we went to the The New England Colonies to get away from their religious persecution. We are not brutal people such as the people living in Georgia in the Southern Colonies and are not yet prepared to fight in a war. The people here came over to worship the way that pleased them. We the people surrounding the busy port cities of the Boston harbor lived in small towns or villages and church was the center of our daily life. We settled in the Massachusetts

If there is a war and they plan on getting their food from fishing somebody has to do it and slaves are not a big part of our population. Then if we decide to trade for food with the Mid Atlantic Colonies or the Southern colonies, then we would have to wait for those shipments to come in, not having a bountiful supply on hand. We are not brutal men, for their daily life surrounds around the church and these people are not prepared. Economically, these people are ready and they make their own manufactured products and they are able to spread word easily and are always addressing problems. These people only need natural materials in order to make them so they would be able to be well supplied. Using the terrain would make so that the French fight uphill and they fight downhill. So even though there were many things that would help them through the war, their peaceful ways would prohibit them to be good fighters. I am asking you to help us in many ways if we go to war. First, we would need training to have better soldiers. Second, we would need to stalk up on supplies and cotton for clothes to keep them warm. If all of these things are accomplished then the New England Colony will be ready for
In the 1630's and the 1640's, the Puritans traveled to the colonies to detach from their opinion of a convoluted Church of England. They set up towns and started new lives that were all based on their idea of a pure religion. The Puritan's definition of a pure religion did not include many of the ideas of the Church of England. They built the colonies and made a system based upon the idea that God was the most important aspect of life. Puritan ideas and values influenced the political, economic, and social development of the New England colonies from 1630 through the 1660’s by spreading their beliefs into every facet of daily life. Politically their ideas regarding what was considered sinful behavior and how power was separated among the
The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), the American War of Independence, or simply the Revolutionary War in the United States, was the prosperous military revolt against Great Britain of Thirteen American Colonies which joined together as the United States of America in July 1776. Originally constrained to fighting in those colonies, after 1778 it additionally became a world war between Britain and France, Netherlands, Spain, and Mysore.
Murrin, Paul E. Johnson, James M. Mcpherson, Alicea Fahs, Gary Gerstle, Emily S. Rosenberg, and Norman L. Rosenberg, “Puritans fleeing to America hoped to escape the divine wrath that threatened england and to create in America the kind of churches that God demanded.” (John et al., 2012). Because the English church was beginning to become “perverted, corrupted, and utterly overthrown by the multitude of evil examples and the licentious government” (John Winthrop) the Puritans feared God’s rage at the Church of England, so therefore they felt they urgently need to flee in order to escape this wrath and please God by creating a “City Upon a Hill”. This means the Puritans had to set an example in Massachusetts because they wanted to spread the gospel and create a government surrounding all of their principles around God’s word and do what they believed would glorify God. There was no where else where an opportunity for a pure church
In early 1600's, Puritans followed the Pilgrims to America then they landed in Massachusetts bay. The Puritans started the colony because they wanted to escape religious persecution. The only religion was the Puritans. In the early 1600's of, Massachusetts there was only one Indian tribe, and that was the Wampanoag. Puritans tried to purify the Anglican church because they wanted to make services simpler and taking ranks of authority
The War of 1812 was predominantly fought between the United States and the United Kingdom for a variety of complex reasons but most notably was caused by Britain’s inability to treat the newly-freed America as anything but a colonial body. Americans were overall outraged into war by their own government’s sanctioned trade embargoes, the impressments of seamen by the United Kingdom, and interpersonal negative sentiments that greatly restricted America’s trade with European nations (including the vital trade with Britain) and in effect: America’s economy. American leaders at this point slightly miscalculated the effort by deciding to invade Canada as the only viable way to properly attack Great Britain; this created an aggressive beginning on America’s part in this obscure war. The Treaty of Ghent ended the conflict in 1815 and said nothing about the major issues that caused the war and did not conclude in a victory for either side; it called for the return of preceding conditions before the war and did little to nothing to solve the tensions between these two major nations: the United States and the United Kingdom. So how did Americans feel about this unclear war? The War of 1812 is America’s most unpopular war as it is largely forgotten in our history. The New Englanders specifically opposed the war, with some Republicans lending a hand in the anti-war effort. At this time New England was politically dominated by the
However, Great Britain refused to recognize the French Republic due to the beheading of the monarch. England’s acknowledgement of France would display agreeance in the beheading and doing so would inspire radicals within the empire to follow the example of the French. The confrontation that develops between France and Great Britain will cause the United States to declare war. This essay will examine the views of those in favor for the War of 1812 and those opposed.
Within the colony of Massachusetts, religion played an important role in shaping the community’s people and interests. The reason for the Puritans move to North America was to escape the convictions the Christians of England were placing on them (Divine, 89). Winthrop and his followers believed that in this new land they must create a place where they could come together as a people and build the perfect religious society (Divine, 90). In a speech about his vision for the land, John Winthrop said, “We must delight in each
The colonists had different reasons for settling in these two distinct regions. The New England region was a more religiously strict yet diverse area compared to that of the Chesapeake Bay. The development of religion in the two regions came from separate roots. After Henry VIII and the Roman Catholic Church broke away from each other, a new group of English reformers was created called the Puritans. The Puritans came from protestant backgrounds, after being influenced by Calvinistic ideas. When their reforms were thwarted by King James I of England, they fled to the New World in what is now known as the "Great Migration". The Puritans were then joined by Quakers, Protestants, and Catholics in the religiously diverse New England area. These diverse religious factions were allowed to live freely but under the laws of New England. It was due to this religious freedom that these people came to escape religious persecution back home. The New Englanders had a religion-based society and religion was based on family. As the Bible highly regarded family, it condemned adultery. Adultery was considered a punishable crime. Adulterers were marked as impure by a letter "A" stitched on their
The colonies, though seemingly united on one front, actually extremely varied on religious rules and customs. Each colony was basically established on its own belief or religion, as Pennsylvania was established by Quakers and Massachusetts was established by Puritans, and since separate religions had different rules and customs, there was a varied structure from colony to colony. This separation also went farther than just laws; some religions, such as Puritanism believed that anyone who doesn’t agree with the views of their religion would burn in Hell. For example, the Puritans in Massachusetts believed in soul or religious liberty, which “in their minds...was thought to be consistent with the persecution of Quakers, Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, and indeed virtually everyone except those within a very narrow spectrum of Calvinist Orthodoxy.” Therefore, Puritans didn't even associate themselves with other religions and
Therefore, the Puritans strived to work towards religious and moral reforms, and to do so, first escaped persecution from the Church and the King. As a result, a group of non-separatist Puritans led by Thomas Dudley and John Winthrop established a colony in Massachusetts Bay, mainly in order to have religious freedom, but also to maintain British cultural influences (before they had ventured to North America, they lived in Holland for a few years, but decided to leave in order to settle “as a distinct body of themselves” in the New World). Unlike in the Chesapeake Bay regions, religion was at the forefront of everybody’s mind, as every settler was a devout follower of God (at least at the beginning). Therefore, the cardinal principle in their community was a sort of religious exclusiveness as the Puritans held their spiritual beliefs, which translated into certain “community laws” and customs, highest. On the other hand, religion was a negligible motivator for colonists settling in the Chesapeake Bay regions.
In the trial of Anne Hutchinson, we meet a well intentioned yet lost people described and labelled as the Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Company. These self governing Puritans, once a people who sought God to set them on their way, settled only to be found as a people who simply lost their way. This journey to lost began when first motivated by a desire for religious reform and separation from the liturgy, ceremonies and practices of the Church of England. Once they banned together, they set on their way and traveled in groups to the New World. With the Word of God as their ultimate authority and the desire for a personal relationship with God, these people landed in Boston in 1630 united to self govern the newly founded Massachussets Bay Colony. Unfortunatly, this self rule resulted in a government of intolerance, fear and a liturgy not much different from what was once found in the Church of England. A system designed to set apart outward morality, or sanctification, to strengthen the authority of the Church only worked to neglect the place of true piety purposed to strengthen the spiritual lives of the people it served.
The New England colonial region will be a little challenging during the war. The politics are kind of queer, the soil is to rocky, and they are not from the Church of England, but I believe that His Majesty and Parliament can save protect our colonies from the French. If everything else fails, I propose that we should put a blockade on
With religious reforms causing controversy in England came the Puritans, known for their simplicity in their way of life. They wore basic clothing and were against consumption of alcohol and sex (unless married). With the disagreements of the religious conflicts happening in England, the puritans “wanted to purify the Church of England from within.” The sole reason the idea sparked to settle a colony in America was in search of a Puritan lifestyle and the freedom to do so. On March 4, 1629 King Charles gave the Massachusetts Bay Company a charter while not knowing the true nature of what this colony was to become and for the reasons behind it. Still, the Puritans left for America in March 1630. In contrast to the type of people who immigrated to Virginia, the Massachusetts population was mostly nuclear families, meaning husband, wife, and kids. Also differing from the colonists in Virginia, the settlers in Massachusetts Bay worked together for the common good of the colony. Along with their lives and beliefs, their government and politics were religiously based as well and soon they decided upon a Congregationalism form of church government. Their churches were a matter of choice but in order to become a member they had a strict regulation “In order to join one (a church) a man or woman had to provide testimony–a confession of faith–before neighbors who already had been admitted as full members.” Because religion was the bases behind Massachusetts being colonization crimes and religious disagreements called for serious
The Puritans arrived in the New World in the hopes of “purifying” the Church of England. They practiced certain principles that they believed in and that centered around the idea of God. The main purpose of their journey to New England was to set an example to others how the Church should be, and so their motive for settlement was solely related to religion. The Puritans positively influenced the political, economic, and social development of the New England colonies from 1630 through the 1660s because they were a “city upon a hill” that served as an example to other parts of the world as a result of their strong belief in God.
Throughout history there has been competition for resources and domination. This competition has led to conflicts that have caused destruction, social disruptions and death. World War I was no exception to this competition. World War I was known as the war to end all wars and was caused by a combination of factors. Some causes of World War I was nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and the main cause which was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip of Serbia. While the United States attempted to remain neutral and stay out of the war, Germany choose actions that gave the U.S. no choice but to enter and help their Allies defeat the other powers.
