First thing I want to point out what is net neutrality. Net neutrality is limiting internet service providers, such as AT&T, Verizon, Century Link, Comcast, MediaCom, etc., from charging their customers where they are using their internet. Right now internet service providers can slow access to certain cites and speed the internet upon other cites, they are basically controlling where people go and what they do on the web. They charge certain companies more for the customer’s use of that cite and then, in turn, those companies charge more to their customers. Basically net neutrality is making the internet a fair place that everyone can use without having to worry about if the internet site they use is going to be slow or if they will be going
Net neutrality is an internet service provider (ISP) which requires treating all data equally. It is important to have net neutrality because rules and regulations have to be upheld. If there was no net neutrality, providers could do whatever they want because there would be no one consequences. Therefore, neutrality laws give businesses the chance to stand as equals. It affects companies and customers. In particular, when the customer pays for services such as T-Mobile, Bright House, and TECO they want fast and uninterrupted services as well as customer service ready to discuss concerns. Customers do not want to pay for services that do not deliver on its promise. Organizations have to make a profit to stay in business, and they need their
But what exactly is Net neutrality? Net neutrality means cable companies such as Time Warner Cable and Verizon cannot charge more for faster internet speeds. Which means everybody who uses the internet will have the same speed. Hence the word neutrality. Verizon communication sued the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) saying that they do not have jurisdiction over that subject and limiting speeds is a violation of the First Amendment. "The FCC says Net neutrality rules are designed to preserve the internet as an open platform enabling consumer Choice, freedom of expression, and end-user control, competition, and the freedom to innovate without permission." This case went to the US court of appeals for the DC circuit. The courts ruled in favor of a Verizon. The reasoning for the decision is that “FCC has no authority to apply common-carrier obligation like non-discrimination and no-blocking rules to broadband providers.” I agree with this decision. The reason is that the internet should not be like electricity. If you plug your phone into the wall to charge. It's going to have the same amount of current as someone else charging their phone. But what happens if I want to charge my phone faster? I can’t because electricity is neutral. But when I go on the internet and I see it is slow. What happens if I want to make it faster? With Net neutrality I could not make it faster. I want the option to make my internet faster. And what happens to large corporations where internet speed is essential to stay in business? The fact of the matter is that the FCC does not have jurisdiction over this matter. Net neutrality should never be passed. It will only hurt the consumer. In addition, the FCC approved of a $9.25 monthly charge to help low-income families connect to the internet. Three out of the five Commissioners voted for the subsidy plan. This approval is one part of the reform of the fund
The article “Net neutrality is here. What it means for you” briefly describes what net neutrality is and the changes net neutrality has offered to many individuals. Net neutrality also known as network neutrality, means that many individuals are not restricted to having slower internet speeds or unauthorized access to certain applications, websites, or services meaning that the internet is open. The article describes the changes that net neutrality has brought. However, for the most part not a lot changed, many services that had been blocked before by large telephone and cable providers (ISPs) will now allow individuals to regain or gain access to blocked applications and services. Large internet services and websites like AOL, Facebook, Netflix,
What is net neutrality? Net neutrality is when an internet service provider can block us from being able to use whatever application, web site, and products we may desire to use unless we basically pay for them, therefore limiting our access to whatever we desire.
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular services or websites. If we were to lose Net Neutrality, then we will inevitably lose all innovation, creativity, and the spread of great ideas on the internet, allowing only the wealthy and powerful to have complete access to the internet. Without net neutrality, we would see a decrease in innovation, the gap of accessibility of information between the rich and poor would increase, we would start to see a rise in censorship in content, which violates free thinking and freedom of speech. The fight against net neutrality is also a very modern one, and is still being fought today, and many advocates for net neutrality will continue to fight until the internet is safely open and free to everyone.
Net Neutrality is a basic principle within the internet that basically keeps everything equal by not allowing governments or internet service providers (ISP) to charge us extra or treat sources, providers, content, or platforms differently. Net neutrality has been an issue in the United States that has been widely debated since the 1990’s (when the world wide web was created). Many large scale ISP’s within the United States claim to be for the idea of net neutrality however some people believe this not to be the case. Without net neutrality principles in place, ISP’s could control everything we do which could be used to block certain things making the ISPs able to charge us more for these services. The ability to make more money by charging
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet Service provider’s should treat all content on the internet equally. Most people in the United States of America want to keep net neutrality. However, the Federal Communications Commission’s chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to stop net neutrality, so many people are protesting to keep net neutrality. Net neutrality promotes innovation and allows freedom, but is seen as unnecessary by the Federal Communications Commission.
Before this assignment I had no idea what net neutrality was, I’m embarrassed to write that confession. “Net Neutrality is the assurance that access to the Web and its content will not be blocked, slowed down, or sped up depending on where that access is based or who owns the access point(s)” (Boswell). This to me means that the FCC (Federal Communications Commissions) want the internet to be open to all traffic, or online customers. They don’t want companies to be able to block or charge premium rates for the use of service. This allows all data to be equal and everyone is on the same “fast lane” of the road, sort of speck.
As someone who has had some sort of web presence for over ten years , I am completely and unequivocally in favor of net neutrality. Google defines net neutrality as "the principle that Internet users should be in control of what content they view and what applications they use on the Internet. " What net neutrality means to me, is that the content I have to share (however mundane it may be) has an equal opportunity of reaching any Internet user as any
Net neutrality is the idea of internet users should have equal access to internet content without any restrictions. Net neutrality has been around since the early 2000’s and it is a debate between government regulations concerning internet content and Internet providers (ISPs). This debate covers a set of Internet rules imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Internet providers efforts to reduce access to certain sites or internet services.
Net Neutrality is a widely debated topic that comes with not only great support but also logical opposition. While looking at net neutrality you must consider several ideas that impact the topic. Before looking at any ideas though, you must first understand what net neutrality is. First, it is an abbreviation of network neutrality which is “the idea, principle, or requirement that Internet service providers should or must treat all Internet data as the same regardless of its kind, source, or destination” as stated by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. A few of those ideas previously mentioned are how will the consumers, economy, internet service providers, content providers, and others be impacted by having net neutrality or taking away net neutrality. Appealing net neutrality and how it would occur is another very large topic. How difficult that would be is very important. Net neutrality is a subject that has so many influential factors that it is hard to come to a single right answer, and that is why the thorough research of this issue is so greatly needed.
Net neutrality is a system of government protection, which stops internet provides such as Verizon or Comcast to control and see what we do online. It stops websites from slowing down, or blocking any online services they don’t accept. It was implemented by the FCC, but because of the trump administration, a new FCC chairman, and lobbying of congress, net neutrality may become extinct. Companies like Verizon, At&t, and Comcast are lobbying congress, to remove net neutrality laws. This act will be detrimental if not stopped An examination of net neutrality will reveal diverse viewpoints on this timely topic.
The concept behind net neutrality is that every single piece of content on the internet must be treated the same, that Internet service providers(ISPs) cannot expedite certain websites or servers even if the content provider is willing to pay more. This act is governed by the Federal Communications
What is net neutrality? “Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers and governments regulating the Internet should treat all data on the Internet the same, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication” (Google, 2015). This reasoning has experienced harsh criticism with rivals asserting that it obstructs the free market foundation the Internet was established on, while its advocate’s argue that without Net Neutrality the web would be an altogether different and worse place. Net Neutrality is an issue that should be solved because it has many effects on us and on small businesses.
In a nutshell, net neutrality is the right to do what you want and go where you want on the Internet without your broadband provider getting in the way. It means your broadband provider can’t block websites, throttle services or charge you premiums if you want to reach certain online content.
