National Treasure: The Freemason Party

In the opening scene of National Treasure 1, the characters discussed the creation of the Freemason Party, which included George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Paul Revere, among many others. One of the goals of the Freemason Party was to make sure the treasure that they had been searching for “never got in the hands of the British”. The treasure did not reappear for more than 1,000 years, although many different clues and symbols were left behind for people to find. Freemasonry ideals were based off of a sense of dignity and honor, and those who were involved unified with leaders in the Continental Army. Those who became members were considered to be some of the most influential and brilliant men of that time, and the Party included many of the Founding Fathers. The main character, coincidentally named Benjamin Franklin Gates, searched for important historical artifacts after they were hidden during the period surrounding the American Revolutionary War. …show more content…

The original Declaration of Independence was granted by Richard Henry Lee, who extended the gesture to the Continental Congress, which included members of the Freemason Party, as well as John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston. Livingston, Sherman, and Adams were leading individuals during the American Revolution, but took no actual part in the Freemason’s party. In total, fifty six people signed the Declaration of Independence, although it is proven that only nine of these men actually took part in the Freemason’s Party. In addition to these numbers, thirteen delegates of the overall thirty nine of the Continental Congress were Freemasons as well. The duty of creating and writing the actual Declaration of Independence was assigned to Thomas Jefferson, and after all men approved of the final draft, the Declaration became official on July 4,
