NASA Crane
The Crane project was supposed to be a design that was easily put on the moon. You measured it in several categories that were judge by our fellow peers. This allowed people to get a ranking based on the appearance of their model, the sturdiness of their model, the amount of weight it held, and the models overall efficiency. Our class measured the cranes on a scale of one to five. Obviously the engineering process was to be applied via the construction of the crane and to which did theirs with the least resources and most weight held. The design process was best used in figuring out what build held the best ratio of material to weight held.
I felt like this project was my overall favorite that we have done. It was one of the first building things we did and gave me a chance to see what I can do and if my knowledge was substantial in a way that i could build what was needed. I also felt like the design of my own “Blueprint” was very exciting and it lead to me wanting to study more.Lastly, I feel as if my opinion of this is largely bias due to the fact that I won.

I feel as for starters that the directions were not that clear, and while i understand that if you're a professional engineer you will not get very detailed instructions anyway, I still believe that we are anything but professionals and needed a little more to go on.The second thing that was needed were the materials. I feel it would have been a lot cooler if we would have been given more advanced materials. Lastly, the main thing would be that if were able to pick our own partners to work and design with the project would have been more wholesome and a lot more
This project in general was kind of fun. It’s better than some of the past assignments we've had. So it might be interesting if we had future assignments similar to this, because it involves a group & I like group work, because it gets done faster. My group was fair and on task. All of us did what we had to do, because we all care about grade. Since we all care about grade a lot, we completely focused on the assignment. No one was ever off task, and that was good, because we needed to get this assignment done. Another good things is, we never argued. I’m glad this happened, because if it did we would have never finished and that would have been bad. Throughout the whole assignment my group and I had perfect communication skills with one another
Now that you have completed your project, you need to look back at your proposal and compare it with your finished product. You need to answer the following questions as completely and honestly as possible.
The beginning of the assignment started off bad but ended on a positive note. As the deadline drew closer, the group members were forced to find a common ground in regards to the specific time the group discussions would be conducted. To address the lack of communication, Marcelo, one of the group members, laid out the goal we needed to complete. After this was done the project fell into place and was competed on
Overall, the project was excellent to do it because of two reasons, one I was able to do my own 5s project that helped to have a better understanding of the entire process and two that now I have an organized storage where I will be able to have more space. Now that I performed this project I feel that I'm taking the right direction on being lean, even though my storage is not a business firm or a company where lean can be applied I now know that this is the first step of my experience in lean and maintaining control of 5s process so later in the near future I can apply this project anywhere I get the opportunity to
Primarily I learned that when doing similar projects it is important for me to derive several designs or solutions to a problem in order to choose the best one. I think this was one of the factors that greatly attributed to the project as the group was able to choose the optimal possible design for the particular project. This is certainly a strategy to utilize in the future.
At the end of “The Cranes”, the author paints a picture of resolution in the car. The older couple, having made up their mind to end their lives together, make their final preparations in drastic calmness. The wife seems to have a few concerns about their decision, but takes comfort in her husband’s steadfast determination. The end of the story shows the woman closing her eyes one final time as she remembers, for one last minute, a scene from their past. Suddenly, the cranes outside the car shoot upward into the sky, presumably in response to a gunshot that startles them.
I was very pleased with how the group work went for this project. We got started on the assignment and communication early on, which helped make the project much less stressful. Between the girls, there seemed to be mostly even and fair participation, but like any group project, some people did more and others did less. Something I found challenging about the assignment was orchestrating the memo. I wanted
I have not had a very good experience with my teammates on this project. I agree that this should’ve been a fun project but it has been very stressful to me. As far as different viewpoints I feel again as
It made me feel good about myself and showed me that even though I may not feel that I am not performing well, like the mentor role; my peers feel that I am. I tend to be hard on myself and meet or exceed what others may expect of me. This was truly the first time I realized how effective I am in a team environment. I honestly have shied away from group related tasks in the past, it has only been in recent years that I reached out to others and felt we could accomplish so much more as a group. The degree of how well we were doing was only measured by the completion of a task, but this has shown me an in depth view of the dynamic nature of group
For the precast panel activity, I chose the Liebherr LTM 1220-5.2 because it is capable of lifting the 42-ton precast wall panels into place. At 128’ the crane is still able to lift 44.7 tons with its hydraulic boom. The crane will have no problem lifting the panels to a height of 46ft or a horizontal distance of 65ft. This is why I would recommend setting the crane up on the other side of the railroad tracks and extend the boom over the tracks when the track is clear. With its impressive axle load active rear axle-steering, it will lift these wall panels with ease and be able to maneuver when complete. The reason why this crane beat its competition is because it has such a long hydraulic boom which helps on this particular
not only did we get a 100 on the project, but we took it to compete in the district PBL showcase and won first place. It was so amazing to share our hard work with everybody, and we were so proud. I don't think we would have been confident enough to take so many chances or show that work to other people if we hadn't know that Mr. Borden believed in us, and would be there to help us in every way he could.
I thought the building and the research for this lab was very new and exciting and I wouldn’t change anything about it. The write up and taking notes on other people’s flights helped me compare my results to my peers. Some people did very creative techniques that stood out a lot. For example, while most of the classmates used balsa wood or cardboard for their fins, Josh used paper cups instead. Some people used very odd shaped fins rather than the traditional triangle ones. Ray’s nose cone stood out to me because his was short and everyone else’s was large. A lot of people took risks that stood out amongst the others. I think that I did a good job on building my rocket and next time I will take more risks to hopefully make my rocket land on the
The big problem people have to projects is that they do not really listen to both sides. When we spoke our minds of the situation we listened to each side and negotiated. Everyone was very well educated along with being very kind as well as patient. As the project kept proceeding bumps in the road were hit, however we got over it then grew from it. In the end we went into the presentation with confidence, and it seemed flawless. We were all proud of what we were able to accomplish in five days. In conclusion, from the very beginning we were all unsure about how this arrangement was going to workout, we each had our beliefs that conflicted with others, however in the end we worked so well that we ended making a relationship with each other we probably did not expect. It is safe to say that my beliefs as to how we were going to work together changed as time went on, I enjoyed it and along the way I learned so much about different beliefs and cultures that it changed the way I look at everything. This experience to work with different people has really helped me grow as a teammate and a
The project was managed mostly by myself and it was handled in a relaxed manner. One recommendation for improving the system would be to incorporate more helping hands. The project usually only included myself and one other person. On occasion it included more people, but not often. If there was more people involved in the project it would have be completed in more of a timely manner.
This project helped me understand the proper way to write a resumé, and helped me learn how to focus on my strengths. Before doing this project, I really didn't know how to format a resumé, nor did I fully know what went into it. This benefited me significantly, and now I feel confident that I
