Narrative Essay On Homeless Lessons

I believe that the best lessons come when you least expect it. This belief was challenged four years ago when my dance team decided to run our own clothing drive for the homeless. We made and hung up posters, and gave up our lunch time to collect and sort clothing donations. Eventually, we took all of the bags of clothes to two separate inner-city homeless shelters. One for women and children and another for men. It was amazing to see the looks on all the peoples’ faces when we brought the clothing in for them. After dropping the clothing off at the men’s shelter, we stayed to make them dinner and eat with them. As a team it was a fun bonding experience to cook these meals together and have fun. We saw lots of different men who were just happy to be inside during the winter and have a nice meal provided. When everyone had finished eating we all sat around and had nice conversations with the men in the shelter. I spoke to one man who was a chef and another who told me about his favorite subjects in school. Before we were about to leave there was one man who called us all over to a table, he sat us down and said he wanted to say a few words. After thanking us for being generous and friendly he gave us the most amazing life lesson any of us had ever heard. He told us about his wife and daughter. And about how he had gotten into the wrong things like drugs. He told us to never take our lives for granted because that is what he did. And he would do anything to get his life back to the way it used to be. Not one of us left that shelter without tears in our eyes or begging our coach to come back the following
