Nantahala Lake is located 3000 feet above sea level in the Nantahala National Forest. Its’ features include crystal clear water, waterfalls, hiking trails, fishing, lodging, and many more amenities. The lake is regulated and maintained by Duke Power and it is a major source of hydroelectricity for the surrounding counties. It was created in 1942 by Nantahala Power to provide electricity for war efforts. The lake holds 42 miles of shoreline, which makes the waters close to the shore murky, but as soon as you get out into the middle, it gets very clear! Nantahala Lake releases into the Nantahala River, creating one of the nation’s most known whitewater rivers. When the river is considered “on” the rafters and kayakers come to play. The water usually gets released from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless copious amounts of rain or special events are running. This brings many tourists to the area, and what better place to stay than a cozy cabin lodge tucked back in the hollers surrounding the beautiful Nantahala Lake? …show more content…
During the “busy” months, you will find all sorts of boaters, explorers, tourists, and fishermen in the area. The fishing includes all sizes of large and small mouth bass, brown trout, rainbow trout, catfish, salmon, and a variety of pan fish that inhabit the lake and the springs running into it, as well as the infamous Nantahala River. There are two boat access ramps to the Nantahala Lake. The marina on the lake will also rent pontoon boats, ski boats, and jet boats for a low daily or weekly cost; anywhere from $150 for a half day to $1200 for a week, depending on the boat. Tubes, skis, and wake boards are all available as
Over the last few years, the rivers edge is getting more & more crowded, as fishing pressure increases so does the amount of lures the fish will see in a day. Trying new methods of fishing can sometimes prove to be rewarding.
If you decide to cast your rod on the flats, you can expect to catch your fair share of bonefish. If you prefer fishing on the channel, chances are that you will catch some snapper, Spanish mackerel, and snook. Other areas of the park are known for their abundance of Caribbean spiny lobster and stone crabs when they are in season. All fishers at this park must adhere to state rules and regulations regarding size, number method of capture, and season.
Fishing is a favorite activity of those who live on the lake, or those that visit the area. From sunfish, to crappie, to trophy-sized largemouth or white bass, fishing has become quite the popular sport on Lake Nacogdoches.
Fishing guide Danny Layne reports from Lake Don Pedro that the early season trout bite has picked up in areas such as Fleming Bay and Middle Bay from the surface down to 30 feet with flasher/worm combos and Uncle Larry's spinners. King salmon are down to 60 to 80 feet and a few kokane are turning up at the 40 foot level with standard kokanee gear. At Lake Tulloch, Layne reports rainbows are showing near the mouth of Black Creek with small shad pattern lures behind a dodger. A few kokanee were found in the Green Springs area at around 40 feet deep.
On the far Northern border of Dundee Wisconsin, a small Scout Camp was founded in 1946 and a legend was born. This camp was named Long Lake, after the lake upon which it resides, and it would experience its fair share of storms and turmoil over the ensuing years. Some of its visitors only ever viewed it as a mosquito infested swamp while others would go on to call it their second home. To me however, I have always had a love hate relationship with its wooded trails and murky waters, yet I shall always cherish my memories of it in my heart. Regardless, Camp Long Lake is still one of my favorite places to visit with its quaint ecology conservation lodge, the various activities its main waterfront has to offer, and the thrills of sleeping
Before the United States became an independent nations, Onondaga Lake was the center of the Iroquois Confederacy. The lakes water was crystal clear. The surrounding land was very clean and pristine. Industry and rapid urbanization of Syracuse impacted the surrounding areas because the more the people came, the more it got polluted, many attractions came along like a amusement park and shopping, many job opportunities, newer industries and a bigger population.
At New Melones, as the water level continues to drop, more anglers are trying bank fishing, especially for catfish which usually are close to shore this time of year. Boaters are still getting out off Glory Hole Point with 4-wheel drive. The trout and kokanee bite has really slowed as they have gone deep to cooler water. Trollers
The water is surrounded by beach like sand, picnic tables, and playgrounds for summer family fun. Although swimming is at your own risk the lake is cool and refreshing. Several different species of fish have made this beautiful lake home so fishing is offered with the proper fishing licenses. Boat rentals are also available seven days a week for reasonable prices.
Lake Travis has a little of something for every angler. Winter offers the challenge of hooking white and striped bass before they run up the creeks and rivers during the spring. Spring and fall bring in many largemouth bass fisherman. While they may not run big, fishing for largemouth bass is still a fun experience. With pockets of deep water and lots of places for a fish to hide, the catfish in the lake are plentiful and can run to be very big.

Lake Tahoe is definitely one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States. Its water goes from Caribbean blue to dark because it carves a deep hole in the Sierra Nevada. In August of 2012, USA Today dubbed it "America's Best Lake. The lake was formed approximately two million years ago and is part of the Lake Tahoe basin. The lake itself was shaped during the Ice Age. The water is amazing and crystal clear with varying shades of blue.
Every summer for the past few years, I have been constantly on the gorgeous glittering waters of Lake Allatoona. I have experienced everything from boating to tubing and even jumping off of double decker docks. It’s hard to say goodbye to the waters for another year until Memorial Day. Even though I only see a small but beautiful portion of Lake Allatoona, the “Tri-State Water Wars” are still a large problem for this blossoming community surrounding Lake Allatoona.
Lake Winnipeg, the last remains of glacial Lake Agassiz, is the 10th largest lake in the world by surface area.
