• Attached is a map that I’ve drawn up. o This map is sectioned off so that trucks should remain only in that area. This will answer about 95% of all routing decisions. Such as the split in the Hollywood hills, Malibu hills, Irvine hills, ect. This breakdown almost identically matches the routes Dave and I would create. If we have a very light day there would of course by bleed over into other areas, but it should remain close to this. • Routes should flow in straight lines and curves. o Zig-zags, circles, or overlapping routes should be avoided at all cost. o This option will satisfy the majority of customers due to work schedules, and since you have large windows to work with, better routes will be produced. I addition this will free up trucks so that when we do have a customer that needs an exact time frame you can easily give it to them since you will have more freedom on the routes. • Let the 4 man’s determine the flow of the route o I have completely re-routed areas more times than I can count. While it can be tough to figure out the best pattern, you must find the best way. Trying to force two already existing routes into delivering a four man will result in bad routes. Route the 4 man’s first, all other routes in the area should be made after. • Limit the amount of four man’s each day o There need to be a cut off for four man’s. Sometimes I’ll see 5-10 four man’s for one day and the next day is 20-25 four man’s. It doesn’t matter how good you are at routing too many four man’s will put stress on the router and the drivers. • There are always expectations o While this sound great on paper execution isn’t always going to happen smoothly, but if these steps are followed the majority of routes will be great with a few odd balls here and
