NO UNICORNS PLZ...I mean Uniforms XD Imagine that you wake up in the morning and you have to go to school. You put on the same clothes that you were wearing yesterday and walk to school. You open the door and you see a million people, all wearing the same exact outfit as you. It feels just like yesterday and the day before that. That is what everyday would be like if our school had uniforms. I know that many kids in public schools are against having uniforms in school. I also agree because I think that uniforms are a commitment, they don’t allow you to express yourself as freely, and they are boring and drab.
Normally, when you get home from school you sit down and do your homework. Not anymore! You have to give your clothes to your

People can learn a lot about someone by their clothes and you can’t really with uniforms. Also, girls can’t use accessories to make their outfits more interesting. When you have to wear uniforms for school you can’t wear other things that aren’t part of the outfit. I know people like to wear necklaces or earrings, but they won’t be able to do that with the specific dress code. Plus, what if you really don’t like how the uniform looks or feels? You have an opinion of your clothes. Or what if it is made of a material that you are allergic to? If you have any of these problems you can’t fix them, because you have to wear the uniform for the whole year. These are some reasons why uniforms don’t allow you to express yourself.
If your school has uniforms, have you ever walked into the cafeteria in the morning and you couldn’t find you friends? This is one of the many reasons why I think that we shouldn’t have school uniforms. First of all, you wear the same exact thing everyday. You never mix it up with new and exciting clothes for school. Every student just keeps wearing their uniform day after day. You might start to feel like your life is so boring and that every day is the same thing. Next, kids might not want to go to school. Some people might be so bored of uniforms and school that they don’t really want to go to school the next day. They might feel like
School uniform enhances school unity and community spirit and gives every student an equal status, regardless of race, religion or culture, whether they are from the upper, middle or working class backgrounds. This leads to young people feeling secure as a group and less likely to be bullied for not wearing the latest fashion trend, thus banning uniforms would be atrocious.
The first major reason for not wearing school uniforms is, it forces a student to conceal his or her individuality. To many people, it appears that the school system is trying to strip away this individuality on purpose, but now is the time that the school should be embracing it and helping the student become the person they are meant to become. “According to opponents of uniforms, even preschoolers should have input into their wardrobe, and the need to encourage personality, confidence, and independence grows more important as the student becomes older” (Chen). Because of this lack of self-expression, students feel their first amendment is being violated and most people would agree, which causes the school to look bad. Another way of looking at it is they are forcing students to become on mold, or one certain way of being. However, the problem with making them one is, no matter how they look they will still have their own individual personality traits that will come out in the end. If forced to wear the uniforms, many students would express these traits by adding things to their uniform such as brightly colored gems for girls and different
There are many students that go to school with low self esteems and thinking that they are not as good as others just because of their clothing. This problem could be reduced for many kids with school uniforms. Example a school in southern California made it mandatory for all student “k-8” to where a school uniform. From 1933 to 1995 the conduct had major improvement after going to school uniforms (Riley). That is a fact showing that school uniforms have an impact of student life. Another highly talked about topic is bullying, bullying can come from many things but one of the reasons student pick on other students is because of their clothing. With school uniforms every student will not have to worry about having the name brand clothing which means that puts all students on a level field. So if all kids are dressed the same that would decrease a big problem known as bullying and would also increase students self esteem.
Furthermore, school uniforms have the potential to make schools a whole lot safer. Think of it like this – if you were to see a student walk in wearing an ugly polo shirt and sweat pants, (s)he would probably be picked on just because of what (s)he is wearing. We as humans naturally judge on what we see first, and it’s usually their face / clothing. If school uniforms were implemented in many places, then it would eradicate school violence and students wouldn’t be indignant with each other based on what they wear. Also, since everyone on school grounds is wearing their uniform, it would be easy to pinpoint unwanted visitors and be one step ahead. Not to mention it would help kids with less money evade the bullying and teasing that they would usually receive, which brings me to my next point.
Student should be free to wear whatever they want. Students have shown how strong and considerate they are of others. Students have learned to not judge a book by its cover. School uniforms never really capture the full creativity of a student. Students need to be thinking of their future kids and if they want their kids to wear uniforms. Many students have complained about school uniforms because they feel like their not themselves. Students love to be free and not told what to wear. The parents have even complained about the school uniforms in many ways. The parents have said school uniforms are way too expensive and don’t want to pay as much. Parents do not feel it is right that their kids can not express themselves because of school uniforms. Parents want to see their kids grow up with creativity and imagination. Therefore school uniforms should be abolished from
Have you ever felt like you couldn't express yourself because of your school? Well that’s what school uniforms do, the uniforms don’t allow you to express yourself and be yourself. When you have uniforms in school it causes more trouble for the school, the students, and the students parents. So, everyone loses when there is uniforms required in schools. If there were to be school uniforms, then it would be a hassle with getting the uniforms. Also with the whole process of getting the uniforms would be complicated. Schools should not require students to wear school uniforms because the students won’t be able to express themselves or be creative through their clothes, another reason is because the uniforms are expensive, and the third reason is because it could give the school a bad name.
First, school uniforms take away the students freedom of expression. The First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees that all individuals have the right to express themselves freely. This points out, that by making everyone wear the same clothes, it takes away expressing who they are. Your clothes say a lot about who you are as a person and what personality you have and when you take that away, you take away the chance to express yourself.
One reason we shouldn’t have uniforms doesn’t give us to be unique and our own style, we would all have to wear the same thing.”It stops us from showing their unique side and expressing themselves in ways uniforms can’t.”(www.debate.ur/opinions/doesimposeing-school-uniforms-prevent-students-fromshowing-unique.) Being able to express yourself and dress the way you like is everything to me. I know I would be tempted to wear my cute clothes rather than my uniform. Gillian Sanford from Frontier Middle School said,”I don’t like going to school knowing that everyone is going to wear the same thing. I would also get tired of wearing the same thing everyday.” ” Uniforms don’t give anyway to express yourself, it would take away one of the few things that students can choose in school.” says Justin Qualley from Frontier Middle School.
The first reason that school uniforms should not be required by public schools, is that school uniforms take away the choice of students. Clothing is a major way that people show their personalities. Different clothes can be quirky, formal, comfortable, and a lot more. Choosing your own clothes also means that you can chose the color that you wear, and the fabric. Without those choices, students have no say in their appearance except for their hair. This creates a boring atmosphere because the outfits never change. Some students think that school is already boring with clothing choice. If we take away that choice, why would those students want to come to school more?
In summary, schools should not have uniforms. They do not allow students to express themselves. Also, they teach conformity over individuality. In addition to being useless in schools, they do not improve attendance, academic preparedness, or test results. Really, they do not improve anything. If you were a principal, would you enforce a uniform
some kids don’t have money so they can buy the uniforms and the other students can make fun of them
The bell rings and the students head to class. Everyone's the same. You've heard the stories where everyone is the same, and it doesn’t seem fun. Schools are putting uniforms on the students for many reasons. That is not letting the students express and be themselves. I do not think schools should have uniforms because they are pricey, don't reduce bullying, and don't let students express themselves.
In conclusion, it is time for schools to put an end to uniforms, as the negative effects of uniforms heavily outweigh the positive effects. Uniforms are extremely detrimental to adult development, costly, and it lowers students
etting bullied, losing identities, and getting poor grades, are all the things school uniforms could cause. Some schools demand that students have to wear uniforms. The students don’t like to wear them. That is why we have to make a stand today! If there were school uniforms everywhere students would not be able to express their self, it would not change any academics, and they could attract an unpleasant name to the school.
Why do we need uniforms? Most student have their own style, but a common argument against school uniforms is that they take away the students right to show their sense of style, creativity and culture. Yes, school uniforms may limit what the students have to wear, but he/she can still have their own ways of self-expression in many forms. Students can still express their style of choice by what shoes they pick, color of the shoe laces, how he or she styles their hair, what accessories they add, jacket they wear or socks; there are many ways. Uniforms are still versatile where they will not be breaking the dress code policy the school has set. Just because a student can’t wear the most latest Polo ,Lacrosse , or Hollister shirt or jeans to school doesn’t mean that his/her rights are taken away. School should be a place where Children come to learn, not to scope out the latest fashion trend. Outside of school, kids can wear and show off their unique sense of style.
