NFL players have been kneeling in protest during the national anthem. They are protesting because they wish to see changes made in our country. They want racism to end, and they want to end police brutality. Colin Kaepernick once part of the San Francisco 49ers started when the kneeling. He quotes that “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” I was surprised by the a few things in the article. The most astonishing surprise was the reaction that the president Donald Trump had to the protests. This quote from the article says what his opinion is quite nicely. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘get that son a b
Many National Football League players started kneeling during the National Anthem to protest the injustices against African Americans, police brutality, respect, unity, and equal opportunity. They are protesting with untrue statements, such as police brutality. In 2016, 233 African Americans were shot by police, but the vast majority were armed and dangerous. Only 16 African American male victims of police shootings were unarmed. In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer. Many African American National Football League players believe they are being treated unequally. Kneeling during the National Anthem is disrespectful to the flag, the soldiers, and the people of the United States.
Have you seen NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem? Well I have. And it’s not very cool. NFL players shouldn’t protestrest by kneeling during the National Anthem. Because they’re disrespecting our country, the players kneeling is causing viewers to boycott the NFL, and the players are a distraction to the other players.
“An athlete silently protests during the national anthem. People respond with taunts of "traitor," "you're a disgrace" and "leave our country!" Are these angry tweets aimed at National Football League players kneeling during the national anthem?”said by writers Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton.Due to half of the 49ers team kneeling during the National Anthem 49ers fans are burning their jerseys due to the refusal of the players to stand during the National Anthem. Many fans are outraged and boycotting National football because of the fact that football players are disrespecting the flag by kneeling during the National Anthem. The reason players should stand for the National Anthem is because the United States Flag stands for the individuality and
Players in the NFL must hate America, or at least that’s what some would say when talking about the issue of what players do during the national anthem. Early last year in 2016 a NFL player for the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kapernick, decided to take a stand by sitting on the bench during the national anthem. His reason was to bring awareness to police brutality, specifically with African Americans, in the United States. As you know, most people stand during the national anthem to show respect for the flag, our country, and the people who fight for it. In realization of what it meant to sit during the national anthem, Colin Kapernick decided to make a compromise by kneeling instead of sitting. His point on awareness to police brutality was clear by kneeling, but it also shows more respect to the women and men in the military, than sitting. Many players, not just African American players, have followed this movement. NFL players have the right to peacefully protest in this form and should not be penalized. This movement is a peaceful protest to bring awareness to police brutality, a practical way to grab the attention of people, and is a movement spreading further than the NFL.
I do agree that it wasn't the proper way to pledge your allegiance to the flag, but it does not state it was disrespectful to kneel when presented with the flag. I think that people are blowing the situation out of proportion. I believe that the NFL players have their Individual rights, and that includes the right of speech. I understand where the people are coming though, many people are prideful of their country and do not accept disrespect. But I think most people only seem to hear one side of the argument, and will not listen to the opposing side's opinion also. Let's all try to not just see the surface of the situation, see the bigger picture, and accept others opinions might be different from your but it's not wrong, just
This act of kneeling down should be considered as an act of patriotic criticism, rather than a betrayal of the nation. After all, patriotism does not mean that we should love and support everything that the government conducts, but rather we should criticize for the greater good of the government, so that it could improve. Government could only improve, if they can hear the voice from the people. Only after accepting the criticism can one improve. Therefore, the focus of such protest in the NFL should be why they protested, instead of the act of protesting. After all,
NFL protest has been a big deal this year. Since 2016, some U.S. professional athletes have silently protested police brutality and racial inequality during the playing of the U.S. national anthem. Throughout the 2016 season members of the NFL and other sports teams have in similar protests. Also quarterback Colin Kaepernick who played with the 49ers still cant get in the NFL due to his kneeling during the National Anthem, Kaepernick was moved to protest by the deaths of numerous African Americans by police actions or while in police custody that gained prominence in the media through the Black Lives matter movement. in recent years. .Some believe it is honoring fallen military soldiers and police officers.
In the Atlantic article “They Took A Knee,” author Megan Garber describes the recent outbreak in NFL players and coaches, who have participated in the protest against social oppression, by kneeling during the national anthem. The article describes how there an been an extensive increase in the protests of NFL athletes “after President Trump’s harsh condemnations towards them, for kneeling during the national anthem”. As stated in the article, NFL protests began in 2016, when NFL player Colin Kaepernick “knelt during the pre-game singing of the national anthem...to protest racial oppression against African Americans.” This action has now been replicated by NFL athletes all over the country standing up for equality
The movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem is a symbol of peaceful protesting. It does not symbolize a rebellion, it instead serves as the way to get the point across that the people will not stand for the social and racial injustice done to other citizens of this country. The action bears no disrespect to veterans or any other patriot who has fought and/or died for the United States.
The National Football League players who are kneeling for the national anthem are disrespecting our country and what it stands for. Our flag stands for freedom and liberty. The players should respect that. Before every NFL game, the flag is brought out by an Honor Guard. This is part of a time-honored ceremony intended to present our nation’s colors (the flag) and National Anthem in a respectful manner. By kneeling during the national anthem, they are disrespecting the flag, the national anthem, all our nation stands for, the people currently serving in the armed forces and all of those who gave their lives in our nation’s service. As a result of all the players or coaches kneeling, long time NFL fans are burning jerseys, cancelling season tickets, not showing up for games, not watching games, and canceling the NFL Sunday ticket and well they should.
The NFL should have restrictions on protesting during game time. These players are enrolled by the NFL so the NFL can and should punish these players. They have the right to suspend and fine these players for disrespecting america. They can protest on their own time outside NFL jurisdiction. Trump said some more words on The Washington Post “they are disrespecting our country, our flag, our national anthem.
NFL Protest Many Americans disapproved and were very angry about the NFL protest. Americans think protesting during the national anthem was disrespectful to our military and the nation, but like Washington, I believe it is a reaction to racial discrimination and police brutality against African Americans. In the article “ Kneeling Isn’t about Patriotism—It’s a Distress Signal,” author Marvin Washington, a former NFL player, discusses how the protests by NFl players are for raising awareness of racial inequality. I agree with Marvin Washington because he showed in the article how Your racial background is a reason behind police brutality and how the law violates our constitutional
The NFL players, who chose to sit out or kneel during the Star Spangled Banner, was a not sign of disrespect and shouldn’t receive any consequences. Colin Kaepernick, an NFL player, had something to say about this protest, “ I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”(Kenny 1). Any of the NFL players who didn’t want to stand during the National Anthem did nothing wrong. Trump’s idea to fire or suspended the players is just foolish. Many people would have done the same thing without hesitation, but this country is just so argumentative about topics like this. It is such a controversial topic. It is outrageous that these players had the
This is not a solid argument because the National Anthem is played in honor of our nation and the freedom of a diplomatic government; a player feels that his government is not holding up to its purpose then he has the right to not stand and honor it. It seems that the news only reports the problem of the racial discrimination and police brutality with no solution to fix these issues. Consequently, the players are using the same news to air their protest in which sheds light on thousands or millions of viewers about the problems in America for quite some time. Even Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints disagrees with the delivery of the message by stating, “It’s an oxymoron that you’re sitting down, disrespecting the flag that has given you the freedom to speak out” (Refusing 3). However, Drew Brees supports Kaepernick’s statement that he was protesting against the racial injustice. As stated by Colin Kaepernick, “I’m not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color… To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way” (Refusing 2). This is a great point that the flag provides them freedom, but what is the point of having the ability to protest if they do not use it.
Protesting in the National Football League has been going on, as some of the country’s most beloved and highly recognized athletes are seen disrespecting the United States of America on national TV every weekend. The players’ reason for the protesting is police brutality, you can see them kneeling, raising their fist in the air, or even sit in the locker room while the national anthem is being played. Although I do understand what they are trying to do, I believe that there definitely better ways to go about their protest. The protests started in 2016 when Colin Kaepernick, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, took a knee during the national anthem. When question about his actions he responded by saying, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour”(Lake). While some people sided with Kaepernick most people took offense to his decision to kneel. In him doing this it has caused a league wide outbreak in protest; as players and sometimes even whole teams take a knee or show some type of protest during our country's anthem.
