It is necessary for military professionals to take the time to study military history, for it aids in not only their personal success but also in the success of the mission at hand. When one understands past failures and the causes, they are able to better wage what necessary actions must be taken to achieve success. Also knowledge is power. The more information a NCO has, the greater ability he has to make decisions which will allow him and his team to operate in a more safe and effective manner. By combining past success and failures with personal experiences, a NCO is better equipped for quick and effective decision making. When one studies a past battle which has similar characteristics to the mission at hand, it enables them to …show more content…
Another great issue faced was the obtaining of troops from various states. This was made difficult due to the tense jealousy which resonated amongst the states. “Militiamen by their very nature were citizen- soldiers, they did not necessarily live close to where fighting would occur… states jealousy kept control of arming, disciplining, and training their militia and resisted having the men serve out of state.” (Stewart, 2005 (1)) Thus not only did the issue of transportation affect the means of tangible supplies such as food and ammunition, it also affected the supply of men to serve. The lack of structure and formalization of the Army was also an issue, for the states were at the time not required to provide their men to fight. This fighting among the states made it difficult for the troops to create a bond amongst one another, making the relationship of trust lacking. In comparison to the war with the Seminole Indians, the Indian wars had many more successful battles due to changes which had been implemented. First newer modes of transportation, such as the railroads, were implemented for transporting troops to where they were needed. The delivery of supplies and men were no longer dependent upon slow wagons, these supplies could be delivered in less than half the time as before. “An expanded rail system was available to move troops quickly to trouble spots, and the Army could now concentrate its forces at the larger and more
On November 10th, 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution that stated "two Battalions of Marines be raised", which established the Continental Marines, and is now considered the birth date of the Marines. The newly formed Continental Marines served on both land and sea, and took part in many major engagements, which helped establish them as an important branch of the Armed Forces. The first Commandant of the Continental Marines was Captain Samuel Nicholas, who was born in Philadelphia in 1744. He was commissioned to be a “Captain of Marines” by the 2nd Continental Congress on November 5th 1775. Nicholas soon established Tun Tavern as the recruiting headquarters. Tun Tavern’s owner, Robert Mullen, was so successful at recruiting
The question I was given to write an essay about was “Would you have quit or re-enlisted in the American Continental Army?” My response is that I would have re-enlisted. My reasoning behind this is that I would like to have said I played a part in helping America become independent. Also, I just could not have sat around and supported England when I did not. I also believe in fighting in something you believe in. Some facts that help support my case would be that many people gave hope to the Americans to win. For example, in Thomas Paine's pamphlet “American Crisis” he tells the Americans they need to go out and fight for their independence. Also, the pamphlet gives them a sense of hope that they will get through this (Side 2 Document D). Some other facts that can support my decision to
The Navy Seals began as early as World War II. Volunteers from the Naval Construction Battalions (SeaBees) were organized into special teams called Navy Combat Demolition Units (NCDUs). The units were assigned the task of exploring and clearing beach obstacles for troops going to land ashore. Combat Swimmer Exploration teams were established during this time. The Navy SEALs are trained to operate in all environments such sea, air and land. This is where the name SEALs originated. The United States Navy acknowledged the need for landing on beaches and coastal areas.
Throughout different time periods and civilizations come many different types of art that would never be comparable to those of another time or place. There are also the pieces that come from a completely different time and place, but yet they can still be compared to one another. The Torso of a God (Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III, Granodiorite, 1359-1349 B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic Marble, 2nd century B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display many similarities and show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same core ideas.

An NCO, Non-Commissioned Officer, is better known as the backbone of the Army. They are the ones who are supposed to exhibit exemplary behavior at all times, for all of the junior soldiers. Soldiers, who have not yet reached the rank of NCO, look to the example of these seasoned soldiers. It is extremely important for the NCO to be at the right place, at the right time, and in the right uniform. By performing this type of leadership, an NCO can prove their ability to execute at least one of the many things a soldier is expected to do. All NCOs should be aware that they are always visible to others, not only Officers and Senior NCOs, but also by Junior Soldiers and even civilians. As NCOs we must take pride in ourselves and be the absolute best we can be at all times. Being on time demonstrates a readiness and willingness to work.
One of the oldest traditions in religious ethics is that of the just war. The "Just War Theory" specifies under which conditions war is just. Opposition based on the Just War Theory differs from that of pacifists. Oppositionists oppose particular wars but not all war. Their opposition is based on principals of justice rather than principles of pacifism (Becker 926).
The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplīna which means "to instruct". Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self-control, character, and efficiency.
I wish to enroll in the Army ROTC Program for some very special reasons. My desire is to lead soldiers and that desire is powered purely from my love of the United States and my natural ability to lead. I want to make my family and my country proud. Both of my grandfathers served in the U.S. Army in the mid 60s and they loved serving and they both were extremely proud to hear that I was applying for the U.S. Army ROTC Scholarship. My current objectives that I have laid out for my life are to be successful, to lead in a proficient manner and to truly make a positive impact for my country.
Many people are concerned about the U.S. military because of how many risks come with joining it. However, the U.S. military also explains the benefits that one could receive. Joining the military is a decision that should not be taken lightly. One must understand all aspects of the military. In order for a voter to be fully informed about joining the US military, one must consider both the risks, like mental illnesses and commitment and benefits, like education, and experience.

During the previous three years, the Military Liaison has implemented a wide awareness campaign for children within a gradual plan. The campaign included hundreds of lectures for primary, middle and secondary school students with focus on schools that are located nearby the Israeli settlements and beyond the Apartheid Wall. The plan also gave special attention for the schools of the Old City in Hebron.
For those that might not know much about ROTC its a program that differentiates regular college students from college students who are interested in being in the military. ROTC is short for Reserve officers’ training corps which if people are interested in this route to pursue while in college must take a military science class alongside PT in the mornings of mondays, wednesdays, and fridays. PT is optional but if a scholarship is awarded its mandatory. When I first decided to go alongside this route I had no idea how much of a positive effect it would be, not only in college but also life outside of school. The first week of class and PT I learned a couple of necessary things about being in the military which is the different types
A good portion of my family has been in some form of the military, mainly the Army. In fact, I have a couple cousins who are active members now. My paternal grandfather served in World War Two. My maternal grandfather was an Army officer and was stationed in many different places, for example California and Germany. He also served in Vietnam. He got a Purple Heart when he got shot through the chest, nearly hitting his heart. When my mom told me this, I realized how close I had been to not having a grandfather. Luckily, my mom had been born so I'm here. But then I thought about all the future generations of people that were cut short because of a small little piece of metal. This inspired my writers block for my essay. I
