NASCAR started back in the late 1920’s and 30’s. It started when the 18th amendment banned production and possession of alcohol and prohibition had begun. Drinking alcohol wasn't illegal. You could make it,just not sell it and that's what the people did. They began making a drink known as moonshine. The word moonshine came from the meaning of running dirt roads at night by the help of the moon so they could see. They made moonshine because of how easy the ingredients were to get. People used cars that would not cause any unwanted attention. Cars that would blend in with the rest, but would have enough room to carry a lot of moonshine. The people who actually made runs at night were called moon runners, and people who made moonshine at night were called moonshiners. The people’s cars could not outrun the police, so they began to modify them to make them faster. They reached speeds up to 120 mph at night and with no headlights on. Many people have heard of NASCAR sometime in their life. It would be nearly impossible to not hear of it atleast once. It would be like someone saying they have never heard of the NBA. The problem is even the most devout fans don't know how NASCAR got to be. Many fans don't realise that moonshine played a huge role in the formation of NASCAR. It all started in 1920 when the United States outlawed the manufacturing and consumption of alcohol.
The prohibition caused much controversy in the 1920’s. The 18th amendment was passed on Jan 16, 1920, it said in Title II, Section 3 the National Prohibition Act states that "No person shall on or after the date when the 18th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States goes into effect, manufacture, sell, barter, transport, import, export, deliver, furnish or possess any intoxicating liquor except as authorized in this act." First of all, Nascar is more electrifying because, it involves more than two cars. Other than Drag racing having two cars, Nascar has about thirty racecars or more! When a lot of cars are out at once, it can have the most prospects of wrecks. Every racecar driver can go all at once, than wait until one’s turn as in Drag racing does.
Prohibition was a law that stated nobody could manufacture, store in barrels or bottles, transport, sell, possess, or consume alcohol from 1920-1933. When caught bootlegging liquor you would be issued a fine, this made things alright because everyone was happy, the laws were so hard to enforce that the government was just happy collecting fine money and the bootleggers were happy cause it was a small price to pay for the amount of money they were making. The most ironic thing about prohibition is that it is the major bases for what we call organized crime.
Prohibition was a period of time in which the sale, manufacture, or transport of alcoholic beverages became illegal. It started January 16, 1919 and continued to December 5, 1933. Although it was designed to put an end to all drinking, it simply created a large number of bootleggers who produced and sold illegal alcohol. Many of these bootleggers became very rich and influential through selling alcohol and also through other methods. They pioneered the practices of organized crime that are still used today. Thus, Prohibition led to the rapid growth of organized crime.
