Success and happiness is something everyone should want in their life. I’m sure most people are familiar with the songs “My wish” by Rascal Flatts and “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack. Both of these songs are saying to give confidence and never give up on the the things you love. “I Hope You Dance” and “My Wish” are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere in life and being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize.
“My Wish” is a song recorded by Rascal Flatts, written by Jeffery Steele and Steve Robson. The song was written for one of Steele’s four daughters. What I’m getting out of this song, and what I believe many others do too is to live every minute like it’s your last. “I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow” the very first line is about someone who’s going somewhere in life. “And each road leads you where you want to go,” (line 2) This is saying that hopefully the path you’re taking in life is the one you want to fulfill. “And if you’re faced with a choice and you have to choose, I hope you choose the one that means the most to you” (line 3-4) What Steele is saying that if one has to make a choice, it should be the best choice for that person, not what someone else wants you to do.
“Your dreams stay big and your worries stay small” (line 1, verse 2) Steele is saying to keep your goals in mind, work towards them and don’t let your worries get in the way. The next line “You never need to carry
Significance/Theme 2. This quote shows that Taylor did not really focus on her future, but she focused more on what is happening on her life now. The novel could have the theme of planning the future can never prepare you for what it brings and can only give
Rascal Flatts’ “My Wish” displays examples of pathos, ethos, and logos. The emotions shown in the song are a lot of encouragement and unconditional love. It is not a story, but more of words of encouragement to a child from their parent, or even someone who is just out of relationship, but still really cares about the other person. Life can and will at some point be challenging, but he wants his kids to know that no matter what, they will always have someone that loves them. He wants the best for his kids and he wants life for them to be all that they want it to be. He encourages them to keep and strive for their dreams, while keeping their worries small. He also gives advice to “always forgive, and you never regret,” “help somebody every chance
In her book, “Good Country People,” Flannery O’Connor shows first hand how one cannot judge a book by its cover… not even a Bible. Even though a façade is put on, one realizes how vulnerable Hulga Hopewell actually is. Her encounter with a Bible salesman, Manley Pointer, shows how one cannot trust even “good country people” (2). Symbolism in this story transforms what one perceives the character of Hulga and Manley to be and allows the reader to make deeper connections about their physical and mental flaws.
In his popular song “American Kids”, Kenny Chesney tells the story of what the dysfunctional life of an average American kid is like. No matter what your experience is growing up in suburban American, you can likely relate to at least a few of the exclusively American activities. The modern American dream, at least for many yet to enter adulthood, the American dream simply consist of being able to live a good, fun, and adventurous life, before entering the daunting task of being grown. In the modern day, things like college and high school and for the most part guaranteed so long as you are willing to work for it, where for many decades things like college were something that only a small number of people ever were able to do. However the largest theme of the American dream, optimism, still for the most part thrives today, “We were teenage dreamin', front seat leanin'” always waiting for the next thing, the next person, the next adventure.
Often, we as people are ignorant of the world around us, whether because we are unlearned or simply unwilling to learn. The “Good Country People” written by Flannery O’ Conner is a perfect example of how ignorance can affect a person. Our ignorance not only affects how we see the world, but builds a false sense of pride in us when we know nothing about the world. In “Good Country People” we are introduced to Hulga, a thirty-year old woman with a philosophy Ph.D. Hulga is shown in the story to be cynical, moody, and an enormous wiseacre. Hulga believes with a PHD she is smarter, even better than the average country bumpkin.
The emotions shown in the song is a lot of encouragement. It is not a story but more of words of encouragement to a child from their father or parent. Life can and will at some point be challenging, but he wants his kids to know that no matter what, they will always have someone that loves them. He wants the best for his kids and he wants life for them to be all that they want it to be. He encourages them to keep and strive for their dreams while keeping their worries small. He also gives advice to “always forgive, and you never regret,” “help somebody every chance you get,” and “always give more than you take.” Rascal Flatts’ shows their credibility by the members of the band actually have kids and feel the same way toward them. They also show their logos by the repetition of the phrase “my wish” emphasizes to get message across to the audience of success. “My Wish” the song can be written to you (the reader), as written in the song, or from a parent to a child. The sound of the song is uplifting with an increasing faster beat. It increases loudness and beat at the peak of the chorus and back down for the next stanza giving more emphasis to the chorus. The lyrics of “My Wish” correlate well with each other and the sound. The song ends with three lines “This is my wish, I hope you know somebody loves you, and May all your dreams stay big,” with the repetition of the lines in the back ground, also adding
It is a sin for anyone to destroy, in a blink of an eye, what they have been working on for months or even years. Therefore, one should always face the hardships with a strong will, hold their head up high when facing an upcoming storm, because that is the only way they can survive the war that is life. Right towards the end of the song, there is an extremely empowering line that says “this road never looked so lonely, this house doesn’t burn down slowly to ashes” which stands as a reminder that right when the challenge becomes harder, one should never forget what they are fighting for and simply give up. The amount of determination reflected in this line is the reason why I listen to this song whenever I feel defeated by the obstacles. It comes to spark the flame of determination in my heart when I consider backing
Her first line reveals that the following emotional breakdown is a result of standing by as an opportunity comes and goes (Jones qtd. in Kimbrough). Jones wishes that she could go back and make a different decision, but it is too late. The speaker proceeds to lament the missed chance with a lover, her regret made evident in the repeated line, “ I don’t know why I didn’t come” (Jones qtd. in Kimbrough). Presented simultaneously with the text, the song strengthens the idea that failing to take action leads to sorrow.
The symbolism in this song is that life is hard for other members of the society. This song regards a man trying/ resolving to alter his ways before starting to change the world. This
Out of all the songs I’ve listened to this would have to be the most helpful. It’s a song for everyone that is going through hard times and feels like giving up. This song is saying to never in your life give up and no matter what always have a smile on your face. Like Zay says in the song, “Before the sun shines, it gotta rain”, behind all of those bad days there’s amazing days, you just have to try
This song relates to Jay Gatsby and Wes Moore. Gatsby longs for Daisy and wants them to run away together. Nick tries to explain to Gatsby that you can't always get what you want but Gatsby won't believe it. Wes Moore also realizes that you don't always get what you want when he is sent to jail after being accused of murder.
If I stay, which is an outstanding novel written by Gayle Forman, was published in 2009 and is an emotionally gripping story. The most interesting part of the novel starts with Mia’s life after the accident. The readers also learn about her life before the tragedy with the help of plentiful flashbacks. She recalls her colorful and vibrant family members so vividly that they could easily step off the page and break the hearts of the readers. Furthermore, her remembrances also highlight her passion for music and romance with her boyfriend. Moreover, the readers will find the entire novel very interesting and inspiring and will also find the climax of the novel very satisfying. The story revolves around seventeen year old Mia, who finds herself dealing with the aftermath of a terrible car accident which killed her entire family. During the coma, Mia goes through an out-of-the-body experience and observes all her friends and family that gather at the hospital. The memory of Mia flashes before her and she debates about whether or not she should wake up and face the grief of losing her family or, if she should die. Before summarizing the story, it is pertinent that the main characters of the story should be discussed briefly.
"Remember, success is a journey, not a destination. Have faith in your ability. You will do
When prompted about a song that was important to me in high school, one song in particular comes to mind: “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” by Green Day. Almost anyone who has contemplated the length and depth of life can relate to this gentle song with its slow, almost yearning tone and deep lyrics. To me, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” is a timeless ballad that never fails to comfort me in times of change and confusion. This song should be included in the “History of Popular Music, 1950-Present” course, not only because its deviation from normal punk rock epitomizes the struggle that Green Day faced in order to find its own sound, but also because Green Day has
