My Undergraduation Autobiography

Past- During my tenure at Darton State College (DSC), I begin my freshman year wanting to become a Physical Therapist. I spent two summers before I went to college going to Shreveport, Louisiana to observe one of my mother’s best friends, Charles. Charles had his own practice in Shreveport and was practicum instructor for Louisiana State University’s Physical Therapist program. My goal while at DSC was get admitted into the Physical Therapy Assistant program offered at the college. After two semesters of prerequisites I was successfully admitted into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at DSC. I was never the type of girl to embrace new situations, I hated change and I wasn’t very good with meeting new people. Once cheer try outs for my senior year rolled around it was hitting me that I was a senior. We had cheer camp and I realized that was my last ever cheer camp for cheer in high school. Once school was starting and we had to get prepared for football season it really hit me that I was a senior, I wasn’t quite sure how to really take it. I didn’t think me becoming a senior would come so quickly and so fast. I can remember homecoming week like it was just a couple weeks ago, now that went by super fast and I didn’t really realize it till about a month ago. My college education has helped prepare me for this position. Through out my education, I had to take a few Middle School Methods classes. During these classes, we were asked to create lesson plans and then teach them to Middle School students. We also learned about the Common Core State Standards for Middle School as well as their developmental processes. A second experience that has prepared me to teach Middle School was my special education student teaching. During this caseload, I had four sixth grade boys that I worked very closely with. Dustin, you brought up a good point about “home life being a challenge that children face in the classroom today.” I, myself, almost dropped out of college, during my last semester of Undergraduate school, due to my father being diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. I was a 1,000 miles away from him, rarely got to see him, and just thought that I needed to be home with my dad instead of in school. I thought to myself that he was more important than school. What if I don’t get to say goodbye! How would his last moments be? As all of these things filled my head, I became tempted to let go. To dropout, go home, and not look back, but I didn’t! My educational history is very diverse. I went to Catholic school from kindergarten to sixth grade, then went to public school from seventh to twelfth grade. The transition from Catholic school to public school was very complicated but at the same time it was effortless. I did not have to wear a uniform, go to church, or learn religion anymore.

Shortly after graduation I noticed the note you left me and I couldn't help but to reply with this long email:

My educational autobiography consists of my time from my early days in elementary school until the day I graduated from the University of Southern California. I had many great experiences as well as some dreadful ones. The experiences from my educational career will mold the teacher I will become in the future.

My fall term at Florida Southwestern State College was surely an experience. I was capable to have a very successful term. I am hoping to keep using my experiences to improve and grow as a college student. The course that I took was a great value to me. It taught me some very important things. As my fall term of college is coming to an end, there has been a couple of feelings I have come to realize in the beginning of my term. My fall term life at college naturally generates excitement, nervousness, and stress. The most important main topics I learned in this course across the semester is money management, time management, and critical thinking skills.

There it was, the day before my senior year, the next big step in life leading me to graduation and then college. Unfortunately, just like it is close to every big day in my life. I was sick. Literally the full nine yards, I would go from being hot one day and sweating like crazy to being cold and shivering the next. I refuse to go into my senior year sick, I mean this is supposed to be my year nothing can go wrong.

The first time I ever experienced an academic challenge was in the 8th grade. I was told by my teacher that I would not do well at an early college high school; a school that offers students a chance to earn an associate’s degree while attending high school. My teacher believed my average grades meant I would not excel at school. She went as far as asking my mother if she was forcing me to attend my high school. My mother told her that attending Mission Early College High School (MECHS) was my idea. Later on in the year, I applied to the National Junior Honor Society and was rejected because my grade point average (GPA) was below the requirements. While other students with lower GPA’s and parents with money or time to give to the school were accepted. This experience was the first time I realized since my parents did not have the money or the time to donate to the school, I was in an automatic disadvantage in comparison to my peers. Despite these setbacks, I applied to MECHS and was accepted into the program.

I am senior at Parkside High School. However, I am not a “typical” Parkside High School student who has a perfect high school experience on what any other “normal” students have done in their lives. Every day when I go to school, I always have anxiety whether I’m a good student to reach out of my success and having all this pressure on my shoulders and stress on my mind. These are the kind of obstacles which I have overcome and how it’s shaped me of who I am. Here are the things that you need to know about me; I’m an honor roll student for the past four years and my GPA is always above 3.5. I am a student in the career and technology education (CTE) program for nursing and a member of Skills USA program at my school this year. I also love to be independent and working hard on my grades. This is my story of how I had hard time dealing with my issues which is I suffered from having a learning disability and how I overcame this type of obstacles in my life.

It was about 10:23 in the morning on a cold, January day when I was born at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ever since I was little I loved bouncing balls and playing with things that made noise. When I got a little bit older my mom signed me up for baseball and basketball. After a couple of years I got good and now I play for the Michigan Rebels which is a baseball club and the Gull Lake Blue Devils Basketball. I also have many hobbies I love to do, and I have a great family.

My mom was almost killed by my dad with a knife. My father always beat us when he gets upset over the day he had. We got used to the beatings and the sound of a belt as it whipped through the air. But, my life changed when my dad aimed a knife at my mom. All I had as a child was my mother, and my dad tried to take that away from me. My mother hugged me and pushed me away as my dad stepped closer to her. The moment her hands left mine I saw my life crumble before my eyes.

My life started like a roller coaster! I’m a triplet and I was born on April 26, 2003. Me and my brothers Zac and Lukas were born three months premature. When my dad held us for the first time he said we were the size of his hand. We were in the Nicu for two months trying to grab onto life.Each one of us each weighed an little over 2 pounds.Two years later, my sister Sophia was born, she weighed a 2 pounds. She was born almost three months premature and had to stay into the Nicu for three months.
