My future goals include attending law school to become a corporate lawyer and eventually running for public office in my hometown and the United States Senate. My St. John’s education has prepared me for my future goals by really encouraging me to love education and never give up on what my dreams even if the road seems rough. Coming to St. John’s really helped me understand why having an education is so important in our world today. An education is a tool that can never be taken from you and every day I wake up for class, I never take this opportunity for granted. I love learning new things and applying these things to real life experiences. For example, last spring in my Civil Procedure law class, I learned much about the process of a case
Deep in the thick swamps and woods of Northern Gulf County, amidst the buzz and sting of mosquitoes, chirps of squirrels, and swirls of the Apalachicola, is a long-lost story. One hundred and eighty years ago the town of Iola sprang out of the cypress swamp of what is now north east Gulf County. That small community, was, and still is an enigma in the wilderness of territorial Florida and has all but faded from the memory of Gulf County and is nothing but a boat ramp now.
The image of St. Nicholas has been distorted throughout time and it is important to determine who St. Nicholas really was to best understand his current personification. Many of the realities of St. Nicholas’ story have been twisted by stories that make learning about St. Nicholas difficult. Though his real life is often overlooked and forgotten because of his personification as Santa Claus today he still led an important and honorable life. The historically accurate story of St. Nicholas is very important because it greatly affected the culture. St. Nicholas’ real story can be best seen by examining his young life, and memorable works during his time as a Bishop.
St.Michael the Archangel actually helps people so much even some people today. St.Michael helps people find the courage to face danger and carry on (St.Michael the archangel 12). St.Michael helps/affects people today because he has a prayer which helps and makes people feel stronger every time they pray it (Saint Michael Center 4). People who face danger every day working to protect us find that St.Michael’s medal fortifies their faith and reinforces their commitment to the protection for others (St.Michael the Archangel 12). The Archangel St.Michael is the patron saint of the warrior, who catholics have designated as the protector of those who strive to preserve security, safety, and peace (St.Michael the archangel 1). As such members of
St. Catherine was born in Sienna, Italy on March 25, 1347. She had 24 siblings, but most of them didn’t make it past childhood. Catherine’s sister died when she was 16. An idea by her parents came up about Catherine marrying her sister’s husband. She rejected the idea and began to fast and make herself look bad because it made her so mad. From this, she became more religious, but did not want to join a convent. Instead, she joined the Third Order of St. Dominic, which allowed her to become part of a religious group while still living at home with her family. Catherine’s family continually criticized her for giving away things without asking, but she put up with their complaints and kept giving to the poor. Giving to the poor was what she
The UNB Saint John campus is located north of the city’s central “uptown” area and overlooks the majestic Kennebecasis River. It is located on 100 Tucker Park Road and annually occupies approximately 2,550 students.
My confirmation saint is ST. George. St. George was born circa 280 in Cappadocia, an area that is now part of Turkey. I chose St. George because he was brave in professing his faith. St. George was raised as a catholic and had a father who was martyred for his faith. At a young age, St. Georgie served in the Roman army under the Emperor Diocletian and was applauded many times for his excellent service to the Empire. From the rule of the Emperor Decian, until 284 A.D., when Diocletian became Emperor, the Christian Church went through a period of peace. After Diocletian had repressed the barbarian tribes which were attacking the Empire and after he had held its borders, he began to concentrate on the Empire's inner affairs. Diocletian believed
God's Church has been around for many centuries and the impact it has had on us is immense. The church is not just a place it's a community for people who believe. The church brings people together in unity. With all Christians dead and alive we are brought together with love. The Church has shown us this and so has all our saints.
My personal reason to investigate Jimmy John’s is that I have had the experience of being a delivery driver for the franchise for the last two years. In this time I have learned some information about the business that is not commonly known and what happens outside of the customers’ views.
You, St. Clare the worthy servant of God, graced with beauty on earth and now the privilege of gazing at the kind and loving face of Jesus in the heavenly kingdom.
My saint’s name is Saint Catherine of Alexandria, she was a martyr, her feast day was on November 25th. Catherine was an 18 year old girl who loved to read and study. She was well liked for both her beauty and intelligence, so Emperor Maxentius so he decided that he would be able to put up with both of them. Saint Catherine was not okay with that and refused to marry him. Roman gods were sent to her to try to convince her to marry him but she always had an excuse not to, so eventually the gods started changing their mind about Maxentius. She was imprisoned, however over two-hundred people went to go see her, including Maxentius wife but Catherine would still not change her way of thinking, she was very stubborn and stood up for what she
St. Stephen, the First Martyr’s feast day is December 26. The date of his birth is not known. He died in c. 34. Very little is known about St. Stephen. He is first talked about in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 6:5). St. Stephen is the patron saint of stonemasons, deacons, casketmakers, horses, headaches, sufferers, widowers, etc….. He has many symbols. In Eastern art, he is usually seen in the robes of a deacon, often, swinging a censer (the container in which incense is burned) and is sometimes shown holding a small church. In Western art, he is often shown holding the stones that were the instrument of his martyrdom, as well as palm. Both Eastern and Western art have shown him wearing the martyr’s crown.
St Dominic was born at the Kingdom of Castile in Calaruegua to Felix and Joan Guzman in 1170. St. Dominic’s mother had a dream before he was born, she said while she was dreaming a dog leaped from her womb with a torch in its mouth and that it seemed to light the world on fire. That’s how his parents gave him the named Dominic meaning “The Dog of the Lord”. Joan told her husband the next day and he was speechless at what he had heard. St. Dominic was very smart and loved to learn about the Catholic Faith.
St. John had a very good early life. St. John was born in the first century (Chadwick 1). John has a brother named James (Chadwick 1). St. John is younger than James (Chadwick). St. John was the son of Zebedee, a Galilean fisherman, and Salome (Chadwick 1). His mother was among those women who ministered to the circle of disciples (Chadwick 1). His early life was easy, but he had to work very hard to become
Lauryn, a daughter of Our Father above, writing to families, friends, and others of Elk County. I ask you to read this letter. I am an incoming sophomore who has been practicing my Catholic faith and whom has experienced the loss of a loved one. Having experiencing such a tragedy, I felt lost, gloomy, and overwhelmed. I am here to share these feelings to you today through the Lord. May God bless you throughout this day and everyday.
“Saint Anthony, Saint Anthony please come around, something is lost that must be found”: a prayer I find myself saying too often. It’s said as a final plea for help after the drawers have been emptied, old receipts and dried up lip balms strewn across the floor and steps have been retraced to the local grocery checkout. It’s said when the search for car keys, teeth or sense of direction is in swing and eyes are peeled to places that said object could not fit. The prayer has been used for playful misplacements to credit cards, yet almost every time I ask myself how the ability to lose things comes as a second nature to my family. I am convinced that somewhere in the Bennett brain there is a tiny switch that turns off the ability to keep track of one's personal items, if no switch was found, my intrigue in this inability would excel.
