My Semester in Perspective Coming into the semester, I thought I knew a lot about my health. I’ve always thought: there’s not much more to health than exercising and eating healthy. Exercising and healthy eating habits only satisfy the physical aspects of health; what about the mental, social, and spiritual aspects? For a long time, I’ve failed to realize that all these things working together make up my health. I had the same false mentality with the Dimensions of Wellness. I knew that the seven Dimensions of Wellness were all components of a healthy person, but I never thought of them as one whole. In truth, health is complicated, and this course exposed me to many of the complexities of healthy living. A complex character of health …show more content…
For one week, I stayed overnight at my grandmother’s house; she’s a good influence for me as it concerns exercising and healthy eating. Every morning my grandma wakes up early and walks around her neighborhood for about 30 minutes. She agreed to let me stay and walk with her for a week as long as I would be compliant with her rules; things like eating wheat bread instead of white bread and no sugary foods for the week. I was very successful at Granny Boot Camp. The walking was fun and it wasn’t as time consuming as I originally thought it would be. And, it turns out that I actually like wheat bread. After a week with my grandma, I went home back to home to the sugar. You can’t imagine how tempted I was, and eventually, I gave into temptation and started back with my snacks, pop, and chips. There was nothing I could do but try again next month.
February came around, and I decided to tackle my goals on my own. Once I accessed LiveWell, I set a goal on there to eat 1.5 cups of fruit a day. I estimated that to be about two bananas and an apple a day. Chapter 5, Nutrition, went hand-to-hand with my attempt to eat fruits in February. According to USDA MyPlate, the Recommended Dietary Allowance for men ages 19-30 is 2 cups of fruit daily. Considering that eating healthy was relatively new to me, jumping from no fruit to 1.5 cups of fruit was not smart. MyPlate also analyzes the Recommended Dietary Allowance of other food groups like vegetables, grains, protein, dairy, and
Based on a 24 Hour Recall of my diet, results using NutriCalc Plus report that my food intake lacked a healthy balance of all food groups. My Grain intake reached only 60% of the My Plate daily recommendations. My Vegetable intake was a mere 50% of the recommended servings. Additionally, I consumed 84% of the daily recommendations for the Dairy Group. Nonetheless, I did exceed the recommendations for the Fruit Group and Protein Group with intakes of 155% and 107%, respectively.
Before taking this class, I was not aware of the built environment and what they do to promote physical activity in the community. The assignment of the Health and Wellness for Every Age, allowed me to create a wellness program for a specific group. This assignment gave me a real perspective of designing a meal plan and exercise program for an age group. This assignment will help me in the future because the recommended types, intensity, duration, and frequency vary across age groups. Besides, the marketing project was my favorite assignment, however, it was very difficult because I had to use all my skills in order to create a wellness program. I had to think critically, to plan, organize, and control my ideas and integrate what I learned in class. In this project, I used my imagination to advertise my idea of building a health center for the homeless. This project inspired me to work in an organization that offers many benefits to people such as free and affordable medical services. I would like to be part of a health center and help clients to make healthy choices as healthy eating and physical
The earliest law can date back to 2853 BC during the reign of legendary Chinese Emperor Fuxi. Law was considered code in ancient times. These codes were based off culture and morals during that time. The word “code” is still used today to reference law. For example, I work in a lawyer’s office in Virginia and everything is referred as the Virginia Code. These codes are placed in every legal document as a reference. Throughout time, the law has changed to fit that time period and the customs that merged from that certain time.
The Glenn College’s wellness efforts were sparked when Andrea Garringer, the Glenn College’s Senior Human Resources partner, was attending a meeting in which Dr. Bernadette Melnyk, Ohio State’s first Associate Vice President for Health Promotion and Chief Wellness Officer, introduced Buckeye Wellness. Buckeye Wellness was created by Dr. Melnyk to strengthen the university’s emphasis on wellness. It targets three discovery themes: health and wellness, food production and security and energy and environment. Buckeye Wellness is a health and
I decided to analyze the heath documentary, Hungry for Change. There are two reasons why I chose this particular documentary, which are, my education and health, and my family’s health. Personally, I am very interested in nutrition, health, and overall well-being. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I began to make better food choices and do moderate exercises. Now that I am in college, where I’m forced to make my own food, I’ve grown to love cooking and eating with organic and whole food. While I am in college, where there is daily access to a gym, I have all the reasons to be healthy and fit. To be a little serious about my health decisions, I decided to take a Nutrition course this semester to enhance my understanding about the
Lady Macbeth is one of the strongest female characters in the history of literature. Not only is she an equal to Macbeth, but she also originates in the early 17th century, when women had very few rights. I will be portraying her on April 13th and I hope to do the character justice. Here are some ways I am planning on reenacting her.
The two principles of wellness are physical wellness and social wellness. Physical wellness means ability to recognize the benefits of physical activities and adopting healthy habits such as routine check-ups of vital signs, a balanced diet and exercise while avoiding the use of tobacco, drugs and excessive use of alcohol. (Floyd, Mimms & Yelding 2008). Second, social wellness is characterized by the ability of an individual to connect with other people in the world and become aware of their importance in the society as well as take an active part in improving our surrounding by encouraging healthier living and build a better living space in the community (Hettler, 1976).
May came around at long last. So did the end of my second semester of college at Florida Atlantic University. Not only did I survive my freshman year, I thrived, passing eight of my nine joint courses with A’s and getting A-minus on the other one. Just like “Neon” Leon shocked the departed Muhammad Ali in 1978, I defied my own expectations and those of a few among my closest friends and family. Did I soon spend the next few months indulging in summer merriment at the beach, getting my tan on while thirteen-year-old boys fawned over pictures of Selena Gomez? Nope. I took summer classes to keep my mind sharp and knock out a few of the requirements towards a degree which I’d earn three years later. One such class = a six-week crash course in public speaking. Everything went well until I got an assignment to create, practice, and deliver a three-to-five-minute speech involving someone who stood out. The possibilities overwhelmed me until I recalled someone with an outstanding life, hit him up on my cell, and talked to him in person one hot Saturday afternoon.
When going into my second semester of senior year knowing I had enrolled to take Freshman Composition, I was nervous. However, despite all the negative feedback I had received, I challenged myself to do my best and try my hardest to never give up or slack off. That was unsurprisingly a challenge for me, but with a little motivation of getting the class out of the way this year instead of having to take it next year got me through the semester.
As the level of non-nutrientive food consumption increases, the amount of Americans that consume the recommended servings of five fruits of vegetables and fruits a day decreases. Currently, only 22% of all Americans actually meet the recommended servings of five a day. 77% of Americans eat between 1 and less than five servings a day. Females tend to eat less fruits and vegetables in comparison to men. Over the last twenty years, food consumption increased. Although there was an increase, fruit consumption increased only slightly and milk consumption decreased by an average of 14%. Meat Consumption, however, went up by 45% and soft drink consumption went up by 132%. In effect, Americans are over consuming foods that are putting them at more risk for obesity, weight gain, and health problems.
Over the period of this course there has been a few topics that I have really learned about and either it has influenced me to change my lifestyle, and/or attribute to develop healthier patterns for myself whether it be in my marriage, for my child, or for my health. I will discuss the topics that mattered the most to me, that we covered throughout the duration of the semester. Which includes; The Common Challenges to a Healthy Lifestyle, Marital Expectations, and Income.
The majority of people doesn ’ t know the distinction of the capitalism and crony capitalism , and so the problem starts here . People who don ’ t know the distinction of these phenomenon are against to capitalism .
Humans have been around for many centuries. In this century, we are growing more aware of the negative effects illness and stress have on the human body. We are also becoming aware of the necessary steps needed to be healthy and accomplish a longer life span. With the ever-growing number of diseases around the human population, it is imperative that humans realize the importance of being healthy. People believe health is attained by just eating healthy foods, and exercising but that is not the case. Different components compile a human beings overall health; the components are called six different dimensions. The different dimensions are physical, psychological, spiritual, social, intellectual, and
When I started my first semester of college, I was very worried about writing essays and research papers. I felt like my writing skills lacked greatly compared to other students. I knew a few things of which I could improve on right off the bat, such as my vocabulary skills and organizational skills. To say the least I was very nervous about how my writing composition course would be like and did not think it would go very well for me. However, I learned so many techniques that have helped my writing skills grow. It all started with learning how to stay organized, planning what to write in your essay in outline form and sticking to it really helped when writing essays. These techniques helped me become more confident in my essays and allowed writing essays to become a lot easier. The few aspects in which I am strong in while writing essays is my ability to stay organized, focused and be very clear about what I am writing. Nonetheless, there is always room for improvement; a few things that I can think of being grammar and punctuation due to no revising, embedding quotes smoothly, and citing sources correctly.
The first of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your body’s overall wellness. This includes the absence of illness and disease and your body’s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check-ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Some good examples of people who have achieved physical wellness are; Lance Armstrong and the Venus
