Seconds later the ref blew the whistle. My team had won the game! Everybody was elated that I scored, except for Bob, who complained that I had been selfish. We fought like cat and dog, but everybody backed me, because I was the one who scored. A wise man knows when to retreat, and as frustrated as he was, Bob wasn’t stupid.
I ran back to the ball with all of my might pick up the ball with 10 sec left...10...9...8...7...6...5...4... I shot the ball! 3...2...SCORE!
It was the last game of the season, a televised football competition vs Murphy high school, a big rivalry game that Vigor was projected to lose. Going into the game I never knew how much this game would change my life. Down 28-27 in the fourth quarter with three minutes and eight seconds left on the game clock, my teammates and coaches leaned on me to close out the game to help ensure a victory.
In the short story The Final Shot, by Yaseen Rana, this story is about a boy that likes basketball and gets injured. Then he still tries to play even though he is hurt. Rana’s theme, was that you can overcome any obstacle, is revealed through Billy practicing and Billy making the final shot. Through this lesson, readers learn that nothing can stop you from reaching your goals.
Now, 30 seconds left Oley had the ball and they were up by one point so they were going to try to pass their way out and win the game. Except, with 7 seconds left I stole the ball and got fouled and went to the free throw line to shoot some free throws. I got to the free throw line
I was asked to review data on our visa portfolio to determine what the impact would be if we were to change members rates to match their most current credit score. I have done this by reviewing three separate snapshots of our Visa Portfolio. For each set I eliminated all cards and balances that would not see a rate change. I also eliminated all that had a current credit score of 0 or in the 9000’s. Due to the small amount of cards and balances this impacts I don’t think this will alter the results significantly. Further, it was requested that I change all who are now have a credit score of 730 and above to 9.9%. This is a significant change as probably our largest block of card holders are A+ borrowers with a rewards visa at a rate of 11.9%.
That day still feels like it was yesterday, that day was one of the greats, we were playing the undefeated team for the championship. Boy wasn't I excited, the park gym was packed to me it felt as if I was playing at Staples Center. Before tipoff I had all these thoughts and doubts running through my mind cause everybody in that gym was rooting for the other team. This game was close as we both fought for the title, there were many lead changes in the game who knew who was gonna come out on top. Clutch time, fourth quarter ten seconds left, tied game, the crowd is going wild as it felt like the building was about to collapse. My coach calls a timeout as I run towards the huddle I glance at the score tie game with ten seconds left we have a chance to prove everyone wrong. This was it, this is what he feels, this is why we practice, I knew I had to make this shot. As we set up in our positions that our coach had scribbled on his clipboard, the referee hands in the ball and we begin to run the play, as i struggle to get open I knew the clock was ticking I had no time to waste as soon as I catch that ball. Finally
Pericles, the man whose name has the meaning “surrounded by glory” behind it certainly lived up to that title, considering the years he ruled Athens is known to be called the ‘Age of Pericles’. Being born into a wealthy leading family, Pericles was surrounded by artists and philosophers and received an excellent education which would subsequently lead him to his career. He first made a name for himself in the courtroom where he prosecuted the leading statesmen, Cimon, for accepting bribes in exchange to not invade Macedonia after winning a victory in Thrace. Although he was unsuccessful, it was this trial that began the conflict between Cimon and the democratic reformers (Blackwell, section 5). Pericles strongly disliked Sparta for their oligarchy practices, such as driving out foreigners (Harris, 163). Being strongly opposed to Sparta and the reform of the constitution in Athens, this is what drove Pericles to want to make changes in Athens. He worked closely with Ephialtes, someone who shared the same democratic views as himself but was a more established leader. The duo was eventually elected as generals during the years of 462-461 BC and planned an attack upon Cimon. Pericles and Ephialtes proceeded to carry out radical democratic reforms which removed all constitutional powers from the Areopagus Council, while in the meantime, Cimon was ostracized. Cimon convinced Athenians to assist Sparta during a helot, however, the Spartans rejected their help and sent the Athenian
The day the team got together and fought threw a tough battle facing pinnacle high school. It was our second home game and our record was 1-2. After all of the hard work we had put in over summer, we realized we could not lose, especially in front of our home crowd. At the beginning of the game we did our usual warm-ups, I have never felt so much adrenaline pushing threw my veins in my life. After the warm-ups the whole team got in a big huddle, we chanted a chant that will never be forgotten and one day make history for the pride. After the chant we got ready for kick-off, lined up and ready to go. The crowd started cheering at the first 2 seconds of the game “go pride go, go pride go”. This made the whole team nervous, not just because there was so many
The chills creep up my spine, uncomfortably I notice every single person there was watching my every move. We were going head-to-head with the Vikings, they did very well at intimidating our team to death, but inside I knew we could try. They had some tall buffy people that didn't seem afraid that our dignity was high and on the line. We couldn't waste it here, right now. Next, a loud Screech the referee blew her whistle, and at that moment we knew it was time. We played as if it was the Olympics, even though it was just for fun. Then, the ball went all over the court back and forth meanwhile the crowd screaming, cheering, and excitedly saying, “Go Huskies!”
Hot sunny day everyone playing basketball.Billy calls jace “hey let's go to the courts” said billy. “Ok i'm fine with that when”jace said. “It doesn't matter when but call gavin”. “Hey gavin come play basketball with us for a little. “Ok sounds great”said gavin. So while we were playing basketball billy was airballing his shots he was 2-8 and gavin started to laugh. I just sat there and watched him laugh but then billy started to get really mad because gavin was laughing. “Dude you couldn't make a shot any better gavin” said billy. So then gavin started to yell and they made this bet.”Whoever loses the 1 on 1 has to leave the courts”.gavin said.So they did the 1 on 1 and gavin was smoking billy 20-6,and something crazy started to happen.”Im
The team we were playing was one of the best in the school league. They had good guards and amazing post players. They could make a lot of the shots we missed. We were nervous, but we had made it here and we knew we had to win. It started out rough, our defense wasn’t quite there. We let the guards go by us and the post post up way to easily. At the end of of the first quarter it was 11-2, they were winning. By half time we finally made a
TWEEEEEET. Boom boom, boom boom. I heard the beating of my heart as I picked myself up from the ground. Trailing 1-0 with just over a minute left to play, the referee had blown the whistle for a penalty kick, and my coach was calling my name to take it. I stepped up to the spot, it was the last play of the game. I stared into the keeper's eyes. Left or right, left or right. He blew the whistle. Strategically placing the ball into the lower right corner, I could smell the celebrations, I could hear the parents and teammates chanting my name, but instead, all my senses were snapped back to reality when the keeper hit the ball out of bounds. That was it, I had the chance to win the championship for my team, and I blew it.
Christmas morning 3 years ago I woke up extraordinarily early because it was Christmas. Walking into the hallway, I saw the Christmas tree all lit up with tons of presents under it all different shapes and sizes. I went to my brother’s bedroom muttering saying, “Hey wake up you sleepyhead.” Then we went downstairs and woke up our parents jumping on them. My mom’s growled “What time is it you bunch of crazy people?”
With the game tied 6-6 that is when I went into my own little zone and was in my moment. The crowed was electrified and cheering us on. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got into overtime. Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a couple tackles and the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken the lead 8-6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools history the football team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special moment.
