My Religion
What religion am I? In my life, I have been told many things about my religion. My mother is a Roman Catholic, while my father is Jewish. I have learned about both religions, and I have tried to practice both as best I could, but I am now faced with the decision; which one am I? Christians believe that Jesus is both God and man, incarnation of God, and man -gives man two natures, physical and divined that they are united in one person. Thus the mystery of God becoming a human being, Jesus, and suffered and died, and Mary (Jesus' mother) was the mother of God. God resolved himself to mankind in 3 ways, as God the father, God the sun and the Holy Spirit. From this we can see that Christianity is based on the

His or her life is structured from birth to death, through, the sacraments weekly worship, daily prayer and the promise of eternal life.
Judaism is the complex expression of a religious community, a way of life as well as a set of basic beliefs and values, which is separated in patterns of action, social order, and culture as well as in religious statements and concepts. The ideal is to remember God in everything one does, through prayer and keeping the commandments. There are many spiritual practices that the Jewish people follow as a reminder of their faith and as a way to engage all the senses in awareness of God. Some of these scared practices include: circumcision, Sabbath, eating kosher foods, and Bar Mitzvah. Of all of the commandments in Judaism, the brit milah, is probably the one most universally observed. It is commonly referred to as a bris. Even the most seculars of Jews, who observe no other part of Judaism, almost always observe these laws. Boys are ritually circumcised when they are eight days old, to honor the seal of God's commandment to Abraham. A person who is uncircumcised suffers the penalty of kareit, spiritual elimination. Sabbath is the most important ritual observance in Judaism. It is primarily a day of rest and spiritual enrichment. The Jewish Sabbath runs from sunset Friday night to sunset Saturday night. Observant Jewish families begin the Sabbath eve with a special Friday night dinner. The woman of the house lights candles to bring in
Benjamin Franklin once said, “The only thing more expensive than education is ignorance.” Prior to taking my Exploring Religion class at Nazareth College, I will admit that I was pretty religiously ignorant, even in the religion that I identify with! It was not that I did not want to learn about religions, I just was never very motivated to do my own research, and because these topics are so touchy in schools, we never went in depth, in high school. I am beyond thankful that a religious studies class is a requirement at Nazareth because after taking it, I feel that it is very important to be educated on religion as it is so controversial in our society, today.
Christianity is centered around God and the Son, Jesus Christ. Christianity teaches that God created the Earth and everything in His universe (Genesis 1). God created man and women to live in the Garden of Eden and rule over the animals. Everything was good (Genesis 1). Then Adam and Eve were deceived and sinned against God, thus all of humanity was cursed to not be able to be in perfect communion with God anymore (Genesis 3:1-7). As a result, God had to make a way for humans and God to be back in relationship with one another. In order to complete this large task, the Son of God came to the Earth that He created and lived a perfect life and died a heinous, criminal’s death on a cross (Matthew 27; Mark 15; Luke 23; John 19). Throughout
Pei was asking me the biggest decision that makes me started studying again. I shared about how God saved me when I was in my lowest point and He was the One who brought me into the light. She was surprised as she said that she would only find someone to express her sadness, instead to Buddha. They would only go to the Chinese Temple when they need money or asking for peace and health upon them. I was happy that finally I got the chance to share the main point of my faith! I shared her some Bible verses about Christ carries our burdens and sadness, especially John 14 where Jesus comforts His disciples.
Paraguay is a developing country, where Catholicism plays an important role. Most people from all social classes follow this religion. It creates a community of faith, hope and charity within the country. There is a saying in Paraguay: “People who pray together, stays together”. It represents the strong bonds the religion creates between us. I would say this tradition is the most meaningful in my life since I’ve been into it since my childhood. My family and I never missed a mass since the reach of my memory. At the beginning I was forced to assist mass, otherwise I would not get some “benefits”. But soon, when I grew older I started to realize the importance of it in my life and what it means to me.
The period from the eighth to the fourteenth century was one of vast reforms, some for the better and some for the worse. During this period in Europe, commonly known as The Middle Ages, economic reforms took place as well as social, political, and religious changes. One common theme throughout The Middle Ages consisted of the relationship between the Church and the State. The Catholic church during this era held a prominent role in society, and it had an abundant amount of power and authority during this time.
The religion my group is covering is Christianity. Christianity is one of the biggest and widest spread religions in the world. It was founded by Jesus Christ and his 12 Apostles. Jesus taught his Apostles the word of God and spread the belief that he was the messiah by performing miracles such as healing the sick, feeding thousands with only enough food for one person, and expelling demons from the souls of people he encountered. After Jesus had many followers, people started to worry about the change in the community and the Romans didn’t want to think about what might happen if people started changing their ways so they sentenced Jesus to death. Jesus told his Apostles that he would come back after his death and
"Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important" (C.S. Lewis). Christianity is a religion based on the life and teaching, in the New Testament, of Jesus. It is a type of religion that only believes in one God. People who follow this religion are called Christians. Most Christians believe that God is one eternal being who exists as three distinct, eternal, and indivisible persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ the eternal Word), and the Holy Spirit. Most Christians says that the work of the "Spirit of God", the Holy Spirit, is truly important.
The artwork is The Wheel of Life and was originally designed by Buddha and is seen in Tibetan Buddhism.
Growing up, church was never a huge aspect of my life, but it was always around me. My grandmother was a deeply religious Catholic, and many of the kids on my street went to the church around the corner. Despite this, my mother never forced my sisters and I to go. She wanted us to choose our own beliefs. The proximity to Christianity influenced what I believe in today. I believe in God and that he created everything in the observable universe. The rest of the Bible, well, is debatable to me. Some call me an agnostic Christian, but the label doesn’t matter. As long as I can find faith and solace in something when I need it, I’m happy. What I ponder the most is the final chapter: death and the afterlife. What I hope is that everyone is delivered what they
Humans love to think of themselves as fundamentally selfless, conscience-driven individuals, while, in Robert Wright's eyes, "we are all self-promoters and social climbers" (Wright 313). Wright explains all altruistic behaviors as a part of a "shameless ploy" by our genes to ensure the perpetuation of the invaluable genetic code (212). His assertion that human altruism is really fundamentally self-serving in nature is intriguing in light of many of the hallowed conceptions we tend to have regarding our own innate kindness towards each other. Viewed under the microscope of Christian morality, which demands that its followers perform good deeds without drawing attention to them, Wright's notion of altruism initially
I am a Christian and I believe in the Holy trinity: God, the Son, the Holy Spirit.
Sematic religions are those religions that are related to each other by their mutual belief in the existence of a divine being known as “God”. These religions are specifically mentioned in the Holy Quran and include Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Now all of these sematic religions have their perceptions of the existence of soul in human beings, soul which according to these religions, though a part of human existence is not a physical part of human beings rather is invisible. Some religions have a belief that it is the soul that is rewarded or punished for the deeds of human beings rather than that of the body, while other religions believe in the process of reincarnation i.e. after death the soul of the dead being is placed in the body of another person. Therefore, though Islam, Judaism and Christianity all believe in the concept of soul i.e. they all believe in the immortality of the soul (even after the body die the soul exists in one way or the
Religion is most basically defined as the belief and worship of a higher power, more specifically a belief in one or many Gods. Although no two religions are exactly the same, all religions are based off of some belief. My own personal belief is based off of Catholicism. While I do not agree with all the teachings of the catholic church, I do believe that Jesus is our lord and savior. He symbolizes hope and forgiveness for me and is a constant in my life.
was not raised in a family that went to church every Sunday. We rarely went to church, but it was not because we were against it or don’t believe in God. It just that it was never something we focused on. My parents weren't raised going to church every Sunday either, they would just occasionally go on holidays or with other family members. Therefore, going to church was not passed down to our family. We didn't talk much about God or the Bible, so we considered ourselves Christians but I did not know many of the formal bible stories except for what I have figured out over time by friends, school and doing my own research.
Religion is a hard concept to comprehend. In all honesty what is religion? Is it what we believe is true to our hearts or is it what we are taught to believe.See, I was raised in a Catholic household my parents believed in it strongly, in was in a sense it was their backbone. Both came from very rough as well as different background, the things that they had seen are ones that I can't even begin to imagine. Yet, no matter what you ask them they will tell you that the lord's voice is the one which told them to turn back and the lord's hands are what molded them into whom they were supposed to be.They told me so many stories growing up, some of which I wish I never had the chance of knowing but I know they did it so I could learn from their mistake as well as realize just how alive and real the lord is. When I grew up I was raised by two nineteen year olds, whose hearts blazed like the sun. No matter what they did my parents were filled with passion and the will to make nothing into something, they were my idols I just wanted to be like them meanwhile they just wanted me to be better than them. They showed me who God was and how every time I cried he would be the one to hear me. I remember whenever I was younger my parents had separated. I knew why they were separating but it seemed as they did their fire turned to embers. I questioned myself and I wondered why had God do this to me… to us. Eventually I stopped believing, I began to hate myself, I stopped loving my elf and I
