3. Provide details on two separate interactions where teachers supported a child’s literacy development. Select two different children or groups of children for this observation.
a. The children came walking over to the carpet to sit down for story time. “Miranda.” I said “It is time to join our friends on the carpet for story time.” Miranda walked over to the play kitchen and sat down in a leather chair apart from the rest of the group. I walked over to the circle time carpet and sat down on the tile floor outside of the carpet. Ms. Alyssa said “Miranda we are reading a story now so, you need to come and sit with the rest of us.” Miranda stood up and walked to the middle of the classroom but, stopped there and stared at Ms. Alyssa. Ryker was walking around the classroom. Ms. Justine said “Ryker, it is time to sit down and listen.” Ryker looked at Ms. Justine and said

Justine said “Ryker, you need to listen and sit down with everyone else.” Ryker threw a salt and pepper shaker at Ms. Justine and ran around the classroom screaming. Ms. Alyssa started to read a book about insects. Ryker ran around the classroom and screamed at Ms. Justine running from her and climbing up on top of the heater. Ms. Alyssa spoke to the children and said “Friends, do you see how Ryker is behaving. What he is doing is not appropriate and we should not act like that.” Robert Thomas climbed up into my lap but, looked at Ryker. I leaned down and said “Our eyes should be on the teacher Robert Thomas.” Ryker screamed again. Manaf, Robert Thomas, Jett, and Lucas turned and looked at Ryker. Ms. Alyssa said “My friends how about I stop reading this book and read one you all know by heart called The Pigeon Needs A Bath!” Lucas, Lucy B., Lucy F. Manaf, Robert Thomas, and Jett said “Yes!” Ms. Alyssa opened the book to the first page and
One of the most eye opening experiences of my life occurred in the second grade. I would have never thought that doing one simple assignment in elementary school could change my whole perspective on literacy. My understanding of literacy was sparked when I had read my first real book. I remember sitting down on the vividly colorful carpet day dreaming about playing Mario Cart on my Nintendo 64 while everyone was obediently listening to the teacher read a book out loud. It wasn’t that I did not know how to read or listen, I just didn’t care. Reading to me used to be tedious because I did not understand the purpose of it. I did not grow up with the luxury of my parents reading to me because they weren’t literate in English, so I had to figure out for myself why literacy is vital in everyday life. My ongoing learning experience with literacy can be traced back to one simple visit to library.
Shawn Torrent was sitting in his math class at Palm beach k-12 school, he looked up from his work to see that his teacher, Mrs. Clarke, was no longer writing a problem on the board, or even in the classroom. Shawn looked around the room, as a few other students started to realize that she wasn’t there. Some of the kids from Shawn’s class, including his best friend Cody Mitchell, stood up and walked to the hallway. Shawn followed everyone into the hallway, where he noticed kids from other classes had done the same. He had asked multiple people what was going on, but got no response from anyone. Then Shawn looked down the hallway and saw Alana Morrison come out of her advanced algebra class. He had always liked Alana, but they had never really
While observing in Mrs. Lewis’ Kindergarten classroom I noticed that there are several diversities that exist amongst her students. I am aware that two students in the room have IEPs and are accommodated for as needed, specifically in the time they are given to complete activities and the scale in which they are graded in comparison to their peers. Also, there several children that are a different ethnicity than Mrs. Lewis herself, but are always treated in an unbiased manner by Mrs. Lewis as well as her aid, Ms. Pam. In addition, I am aware that there are no ELL students within the classroom, but due to the presence of Latino children Mrs. Lewis has laminated posted taped to objects in the class that have the Spanish term
Upon entering the classroom, Deyonnah was sitting at the table eating popcorn. She had a doll and a pair of stethoscopes on the table next to her popcorn. Deyonnah got up, ran to the toy bin and brought a camera to the table. She sat back down in her seat and continued to eat her popcorn. Ms. Piedad walked over to Deyonnah and pushed her chair closer to the table. One of the students shouted, “I’m going to blocks!” Another student repeated, “I’m going to blocks too.” Both students got up and ran to the block center. Deyonnah jumped out of her chair and ran to the cabinet and grabbed the whisper phone. Ms. Piedad removed the whisper phone and redirected Deyonnah back to the table to finish eating her popcorn. Deyonnah began to cry and scream.
Within my school teaching literacy takes place in everyday classroom. The format of this teaching varies to include different activities for each day. Certain aspects of literacy are taught every week. The teachers are to ensure that the work planned is appropriate for the age stage and ability of the children. They use strategies such as talk partners and small group work to allow children to develop their oral skills and ability to communicate and cooperate with their peers. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of effective oracy skills in the early years and foundation phase. Role play areas are set up in partnership with the children so that they can practice speaking Listening and drama based activities within a meanful context.
Stacy don’t open the door." Timmy whispered in a frightened voice. "I won't sweetheart I wont." As I pushed my back against the wall broken glass had splattered above my head and all over me. As soon as I felt the strange man grabbing my hair I stood up, away from the dangerous guy. "What do you want? Don’t hurt these innocent children!" As I yelled in a tone that I had never yelled in before, the threatening man opened the door. As soon as I noticed he had opened the door I stood in front of the children's desk with my hands held apart one to the left, as one to the right. "Please stop!" I yelled in a frightened voice. "Move out the way lady!" As the perilous man pushed me to the side he picked up the desk. Sarah still curled up in a ball. I noticed him picking her up. "Mrs. Stacy please don’t let him take me! Stop I don’t like you dad!" I was in shocked to hear Sarah's words coming out of her mouth. "Don’t come near me lady!" As Sarah's dad was about to leave the room I threw a chair at her dad's back. "Put her down I said!" As I shouted to him, he had left me unconscious there sitting on the
“Time for school Rosy.” said Riley as she went to Rosy’s room to wake her up. After Rosy got dressed, Riley drove her to school at East High School. As she takes a seat in Mrs. Rogers’ math class, the bell rings. Mrs. Rogers is about to close the door till Adam Matthews, the most popular guy and one of the best athletes in school, sprints in. Mrs. Rogers said “You are late once again Adam. You are failing my class, so I have no option, but to assign you a tutor to help with your studies starting
The students work on assigned classwork on the IPad. Bobby begins singing. Ms. Fizzle approaches Bobby to help him with the assignment. Ms. Frizzle walks away. Bobby stands up, and the teacher aide approaches and asks Bobby to have a seat he sits down and starts mumbling under his breath. Bobby begins staring around the classroom. Bobby looks at the IPad (class assignment) puts it away and walks to the back of the classroom and stands behind one of his classmate seats mumbling and singing to himself. Teacher Aide addresses Bobby behavior and asks him to return to the front of the class. His classmates begin snickering.
We told Jason that he had better not have gotten cheez its ruined for us! the next day we had went to the cafeteria. we saw a sign that said “NO MORE CHEEZ IT'S!” and there was a trash can where you had to put your in the can. If you didn’t put them in there and the teachers found them they had put you in lunch duty. When Jason had went to the table he said guess what i snuck in! He started to show us but Mr. L had found him and he started to take jas to the wall when he started to take him to the wall the principle
I heard all the groups talking at once all the counselors telling girls what to do. “ Anya come on’’ Evelyn told me in a little bit of a harsh way “what ?” I asked “were getting life jackets” explained Evelyn. Me and Evelyn were doing the tippy test with the canoes. We were at camp newaygo, were us and two of are other friend were doing a week long sleep away camp and one of the thing that me and Evelyn did was going canoeing and today was our last day, and we were doing the tippy test were you practice what would happen when you fall in the water. “Anya” said Evelyn now sounding mad. “Oh ya sorry I was spacing out” I explained as I tried to hide my embarrassment.
The first challenge was to understand what the essay topic is going to be about. When I began to write the literacy narrative, I thought about my first book that I read. However, I didn’t know if I could expand the story and add some vivid details. I decided to switch my topic and write about the TOEFL test preparation, since that had happened couple years ago and it was still fresh in my memory.
The second interaction I observed was a child went over and grabbed the ring stacker toy. She started to shake the pieces which contained beads that made noise. The teacher walked over and allowed the child to really explore all the pieces of the toy before she intervened. She was laughing along with the child when she got excited that the beads were moving. I would give this interaction a seven on the QQCIIT scale for supporting object exploration. This is because the teacher allowed the child to explore multiple toys and pick one to really explore. She helped her maintain interest in the toy and she helped her explore the object by also shaking a bigger, different colored ring. Once the child noticed the middle piece that the other rings
In general, the first time that I utilized this kind of literacy practice in the aspect how I see it now was in the United States. Even though I have studied in my home country the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but it was not like the way looked the education now. It is very different because of the community in both sides. Her in the United States the quality of education much higher.
“Literacy learning has a profound and lasting effect on the social and academic lives of children. Their future educational opportunities and career choices are directly related to literacy ability. Since early childhood is the period when language develops most rapidly, it is imperative that young children are provided with a variety of developmentally appropriate literacy experiences throughout each day, and that the classroom environment is rich with language, both spoken and printed. Early childhood teachers are responsible for both understanding the developmental continuum of language and literacy and for supporting each child’s literacy development.
"Ever since I was a child, I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one 's potential"(Bruce Lee). I think this quote pertains greatly to how children grow up. The Assignment purpose was to observe a child between the ages of 2 and 16. Human Development is important because it shows what you can identify. For example, if there is anything wrong with your child or if your child is more developed than others. Plus, there is so much that you can learn from observing the child from how they react in their environment and around people. If you know what to look for in human develop it greatly helps in knowing what to do with a child when you least expect it.
