In the book Speak, Melinda was very popular, and happy with her life, until Andy Evans raped her. This traumatic experience changed her forever, and she became mute. In the book speak it explains Melinda’s struggle with herself as she goes threw her years in high school. One example of this is on page 132, when Melinda has self talk with herself. “I think it’s some kind of psychiatric disorder when you have more than one personality in your head. That’s what it feels like when I walk home.” (132 Anderson) This quote shows Melinda’s struggle with herself, and how she never can make up her mind. One experience like rape in Melinda’s case can change you forever and make you suicidal.

Another way that sociology would better my career would be by analyzing behaviors of criminals and patterns that they leave behind on the victims. With certain crimes you will be able to identify the criminals upbringing by their immoral actions. You’ll be able to identify the perpetrator by the basics you learn in Soc 101. Sociology gives you the tools to look outside the box and to look further into examining people. Analyzing is going to be a key element in pathology because i would have to examine bodies and analyze all the information in order to determine the cause of death.

The War on Drugs has been an ongoing effect ever since the Civil War introduced the drug morphine to the world. In the years since people have been coming up with drugs more lethal than morphine such as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and so on and so forth. The War on Drugs is dangerous and leads to many deaths throughout the years. America has set up agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and other drug task force teams throughout the United States. Even though we may not be able to catch all the drug dealers the United States drug teams has put a tiny dent into this ongoing black market run by cartels and even the smaller drug dealers. In this essay, we will see the effect it has on the United States, the way we are trying to prevent, and overall what the drugs have done to America since the Civil War.
Since I have never played a sport or been very athletic; the connections from the book Mind Gym by Gary Mack and lecture are more centered around my academic experiences as an undergraduate college student. In high school I didn’t have to work very hard to do well or succeed at what seemed to be difficult subject matter for my peers. I didn’t study very much, all I had to do was be present in class and listen. I made A’s and B’s with little to no effort. Now as a college student I find myself struggling to no avail. My freshman year I was clearly overconfident in a class that I had mastered in high school and thought that I didn’t need to work as hard, because I had seen the information already.
