A New Person Click. Click. Click. Went the gloss black video game controller buttons. As I played everyday after school, the virtual world was not giving me what I was looking for. I felt like something was missing. Was it better grades in school? No. Was it more friends in school? No. Was it a job? Maybe. Was it to be motivated and to become a hard worker? I think so. The next day my dad introduced the idea that we should start flipping houses. This was the first time that I was actually excited and nervous to do something. My aching shoulders felt relieved as I would not have to scrap a thing again. Then came the fun part; making the house look great again. We primed every long piece of wood until we finally reached the last one. My dad showed me the right techniques on how to make it look the best and not leave any drip marks. After finishing painting the outside in a light gray with dark accents on the dormers, we moved onto the inside. Immediately grabbing the sledge hammer, we started destroying the hard plaster walls. The dust was so heavy the whole entire room filled up with thick white clouds. Even with a mask on, it still went down my throat leaving it as dry as a desert. After spending a few hours picking up plaster from the floor, I was left with an aching back. My dad told me “ With hard work comes pain, but a great result.” Then I removed the old water stained hardwood floor; the smell was unforgettable. Now the outdated golden wood cabinets and white appliances needed to go. With each hit of the cabinets, tiny chunks of wood went flying, I think the house was already starting to look much better. I could start picturing the new kitchen in my mind. After the house was down to the studs, it was time to put it all back together. With all the things that I’ve learned so far, there was still so much to do and learn; starting with hanging the drywall. This was a simple task that just took a long time to do.
