Maybe it's just my nerves getting the best of me. This would be the game of a lifetime and it would be my last game whether we win or lose. The High School championship basketball game would be filled with press and crawling with college coaches eager to offer the students that stand out the most amongst the others. My knee was still bothering me, but I wouldn't let that hold me back from giving my all for the last game of my senior year. Everyone was pumped, we knew it was now or never. We were more than prepared to win this game. We started our pregame dance, as usual, I was always first to start us off because the team agreed I had the most rhythm. I did a few dance moves, a bit of twerking and a few other things my parents probably wouldn't approve of, but it was all for kicks and giggles. After my dancing, I returned to my spot in the circle and waited for the next person to go in. …show more content…
We are going to do whatever it takes to win. My knee was aching something serious, but I wasn't going to tell the trainer because she'd keep me out of the game. We took our positions for the jump ball and I was our jumper of course. I jumped off my good leg, but I still landed with a sting in my right. Off we went like a herd of bulls running down the court. This game wasn't going to be easy by any means. Both my team and the opposing team was knocking down shots left and right. I wasn't concerned with my knee anymore because my adrenaline was pumping. We had got most of our points from fast breaks and turnovers. I was starting to become winded, my ribs felt like they were going to close in and my mouth was so dry that my tongue stuck to the roof of it. I signaled for my sub and waited for someone to come relieve me. I continued to cheer on my teammates from the bench and watched them fight
Soon as I got off the bus, I rushed into my house, threw my book bag and jacket off onto the floor and ran to my room to get dressed for my game. When I finished getting dressed, my teammates and I went over to my friend Josiah’s house and hung out for a little before the game. We went out to eat, played, joked and even played a little pick-up game on his hoop in front of his house. As we left to go to the game, inside the van I started to get more excited and more nervous. I plug in my headphones to block out the noise and to get hyped up for the game that we would be playing in just one more hour. When we arrive at Boo Williams Sport Complex, where we were going to be playing at, I saw a variety of teams playing and there were so many different basketball courts.Watching how good these teams were made me think about how good the teams we were going to be playing. After I got to thinking about it, I was extremely nervous to the point where I thought I was going to throw up. The gym smelled like a bunch of basketballs and sweat, it smelled very bad. As we walk to our court to warm up I finally get to see the team that we were playing, at first sight they didn’t look too good. After warming up, my coach calls the starting lineup and calls my name for it. At tip-off I got more and more confident the more I touched the ball. Only about three minutes in I shoot my first three pointer and it goes in. As the game comes to the end my coach names me the MVP and I finished the game with nine points and no turnovers, we beat the opposing team 37 to 21. Our jovial game ended as a big
Did you know that the average games played a season is only 8-10 or maybe even 15 if
It was the evening before our departure to Richmond to compete in the 1A Basketball State Semi-Finals against Radford High School. We were at practice and Coach Burns wanted to have a meeting before practice. As we gathered around coach, he looked at all of us and said, “I love every single one of you guys.” I think that meant something special to all of us on that team. He trusted us that we would play our hearts out during this game and come out victorious. I think to myself, we can do this; we can beat Radford, who had beaten us earlier in the season.
3…2…1…BZZZZT. The buzzer sounded and tears flooded my eyes as I sunk to the ground in what felt like slow motion. I couldn’t breathe. As I looked to the left I watched the blue and gold sea of fans as they rushed to file out of the stands as if they were being herded like cattle. As I looked to the right I saw the scoreboard, both making the tears fall faster. This was our shot, one win away from making a state appearance in over eight years and we blew it in the sectional final game. That was the last time I would ever play high school basketball.
Time was running out. 2 seconds left on the clock. It was the 4th quarter we were down by 2. The referee blew the whistle signaling my teammate to inbound the ball. I was being double teamed. I ran down to the wing caught the ball and moved to the corner in a fluid motion, losing the defenders. I stood behind the line jumped and then turned in mid air to line up with the basket, and fired the ball. It floated through the air as the buzzer sounded. Swish. Nothing but net, I had won us the game! “MVP, MVP, MVP” the crowd chanted. My team ran at me shouting with joy. But then everything started to fade. I opened my eyes. “It was just a dream” I sighed. I rolled over and got ready to start the weekend. As I was brushing in my teeth

It was a brutal score by the start of the 4th quarter. If we lost, we would be out. I was ready to take control of this game If my teammates were going to give up on me but I couldn’t do it by myself. Our lineup walked on the court and they started with the ball. I continually shouted to not give any shots to their team and to play hard and aggressive defense. We came up with the steal and I ran the fast break. As I went up for a layup, I was vigorously shoved to the floor and I was slow to get up. I knew I had to keep playing whether I was hurt or not. I walked up to the free throw line, in pain, hoping the referees wouldn’t pull me out of the game. I made both free throws and kept playing hard. With almost 10 seconds left, it was a tie ball game and my leg was bulking up with pain. We had the ball, and I was the one to take the last shot. I received the ball off of a roll and picked it up and held it for 8 seconds and shot it with 3 seconds left. It missed, clanked off the rim and I got my own rebound and put it back up and scored with 3 tenths of a second left. We had just one this game. I was proud of myself for keeping my composure and came to a conclusion that taking leadership IS how you get things
Games and recreational activity helped shape much of the culture in the middle ages. Both adults and children took part in recreational activity for fun, for money, or for socialization. There were many forms of recreational activity including sport games, childhood games, and board games. Board games included chess, backgammon, fox and geese, dice, and checkers. Many of these board games required game pieces, which differed from game to game.
“WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING OUT THRE, YOU GUYS REALIZE THIS IS THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR, WE DIDN’T TRAIN THIS HARD FOR THIS BULLS**T”, my coach said during a timeout as he performed one of his patented foot stomp that echoed in the gym. We broke the huddle with loud claps and cries of “LETS GO” amongst ourselves to generate the motivation and level of focus we not only knew we were capable of reaching but also needed if we were going to pull off an implausible comeback. As I walked onto the court, I paused
I was so exited that I wanted to celebrate but I didn’t because we weren’t winning yet. As a result I took the ball out of the goal and took it to the middle of the field to continue with the game. There was 5 minutes left before the referee blew his whistle to indicate the end of the game. My team knew that we had a Great chance of winning because in soccer it is often said that when a team scores a goal, the team that received it will give a 5 minute window to score another goal. This motivated us more. However, we knew that we had to defend well enough because we could also lose the game. Time began to move fast. It wasn’t until the minute 89th that the game changed. At that moment I had the possession of the ball. I moved through the field still with the possession of the ball. I saw that my teammate began to sprint towards goal so I gave him a threw ball. He then shot the ball but the defender blocked his shot. The ball was going towards me so I had it. I was 10 yards away from the goal but I didn’t know what to do with the ball. I heard a lot of people telling me all sorts of things but at the end I chose to have a shot
Board Games: Although it may sound strange now, owning board games used to be considered a symbol of wealth. Until recently, people didn’t have the free time to sit and play a game - they were too busy working or farming. Only the wealthy had time to sit around and socialize.
Enjoyment is key. Otherwise what’s the point of playing board games? Board games bring people together or tear them apart; sometimes it’s both. When playing board games you see another side of people that you don’t usually see. People tend to get frustrated a lot because board games are meant to be easy, right? Boards games are made to test your mental capability whilst bringing joy. It’s not always about bringing joy they can cause a lot of chaos too.
The crowd, cheering so loud we could barely hear ourselves. This is the moment we have all been waiting for. We didn’t start off very good. It was a very competitive game. We needed to give everything that we had in order to come back and try to win it. We all knew that the odds were against us. Yes, two of our starters were sick/hurt but we both started and were doing everything that we possibly could do to help the team out and win. It was a frustrating first half. We had played Osage before and knew what we had to do to win like we did last time. It just would be a little harder this time. At the half, Hampton was down 28-41. At that point, I was disappointed in myself. I was mad that I couldn’t do anything more to help them out. I tried, but my body wasn’t keeping up the way it usually would. I’m usually the one they put on the other teams best girl so they can’t score. They couldn’t do that tonight because I was so worn
The coaches observed as the players warmed up with high flying dunks and and deep three-point shots. With only a couple minutes left to warm up I quickly laced my sneakers and got shots up. Five minutes into shooting, a loud and deep voice filled the gym, it was the coach screaming for all the players to huddle up at center court. Everyone already dripping with sweat, gathered around the main coach and listened as he explained what he expected from us. Finally, it was time to play ball. The first four games flew by, I had made a couple shots and got a fair amount of playing time, among the deep rotation of players waiting for their chance on the sideline. By the time the fifth scrimmage came around all the players were drenched in sweat and fatigued, including me. However, everyone knew that the last scrimmage is what mattered most. That was where character showed, the question was who still had something to give when everyone else was tired. I was selected in the starting lineup and knew I had to give it my all before I was subbed out. All the coaches were lined up on the sidelines ready to see who had the most heart. The game whistle blew and I ended up with the ball after the jump ball. The first possession we had I crossed my defender and sank a midrange jump shot over him, as all the coaches gazed. After we got back on defense my teammate stripped the
This situation happened during my sophomore year when I missed the last shot which cost my team the championship game. The game was intense, there was about five minutes left in the game and we were ahead by one point. After the opposing team scored taking the lead, we took the ball out of bounds for a throw in. My teammate didn’t see the opposing player and threw the ball right to him allowing them to score yet another two points. There were two minutes and thirty seconds left. The game was scoreless until the last forty-five seconds of the game. Then it happened. I shot a long three pointer tying the game, with the assist coming from my reliable ally. The crowd was on their feet, high-pitched screaming and cheering the Spartans to victory. There was now 30 seconds remaining in the game, and the opposing side called for a timeout to take a breather and come up with a play. We got back on the court with the crowd still roaring like a lion in the wild. During the last 15 seconds, the opposing team scored a basket. We called for a timeout to arrange a play for our offense. The coach wanted me to catch and shoot off the screen. The pressure was on, and I became anxious and worried as if my heart was about to burst out of
