I have had the chance to work with numerous organizations across the great city of Las Vegas. My first volunteer experience was with the Rescue Mission, a local homeless shelter in Downtown Las Vegas. There, I served food and assisted the homeless. Since that moment, only 12 years old, I knew that my passion resided in service. I volunteered at the Mob Museum, a museum in the heart of the Old Downtown Area. There, I helped guide tourists and provided information about the museum and the mob. I've scheduled events of 50+ people and volunteered at Clean the World, another non-profit organization that repurposes half-used soaps from hotels and purifies them for third-world countries. I've traveled to Pioche, Nevada, on multiple occasions to help
I do many service activities for the betterment of my community and some examples are for instance in Texas for 5 years I volunteered at the Salvation Army during the holidays to pass out toys, clothes and food to families in need. I helped organize a breast cancer awareness fundraiser where we helped kids build box cars, sell raffle tickets, and barbecue to raise awareness and bring a twinkle of hope and happiness. I also regularly volunteered at the Shade Tree woman’s shelter here in Las Vegas. It gives me great joy that I can give my energy and time to those who are going through dark times with comfort and support they are yearning for.
While volunteering at Discovery Challenger I have exclusively worked with a blind man named Geno. My service to the Discovery Challenger Program has positively affected the community in that the athletes that required a helper were able to have me as one despite the limited number of volunteers who helped the athletes. Another community service I committed myself to while in high school was the club Life is Delicious. Life is Delicious is a club that between two and three times Year members of the club cook a warm meal at the high school, and then some go to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter in Waterbury. At the end of my sophomore year I was named Co-President of the club. As a member of the club I went to all of the cooking and serving activities and was able to help the homeless of Waterbury by giving them a warm meal. The most impactful service I performed in my opinion was during my junior year when I was the organizer for the Penguin Plunge. During my junior year I thought that it would be a good idea for the basketball team to do the Penguin Plunge in order to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut as I had done so in the previous two years. So, I approached the athletic director
As surprising as it may sound, I have been doing community service since the sixth grade and it is a new experience each time. It all began with a community clean up known as 'Keep McAllen Beautiful' as we got there everyone seemed excited to be there. It was beautiful to see such unity inside of my community, and I decided from then on that I would like continue helping out where it is needed. As I joined the National Honor Society my chances of providing my services increased, and I decided that I would assume a position of leadership when needed. I became the society's president, which allowed me to develop my time management skills, creativity, and efficiency. I organized an fundraiser for the hurricane Harvey disaster victims where all
In 2012 I volunteered as a Photographer for Peak Entertainment and Superfly Industries to promote their events and the proceeds from the events went to the South Okanagan Children’s Charity. The following year I volunteered for a night at the Actors Studio where I greeted patrons and helped serve dessert. Last year I wrapped presents for Kelowna Santas where gifts were provided for families with financial need and collected bottles and cans to fundraise for the Fort McMurray Fire Relief. This year so far I’ve been a course marshal for Kelowna’s RainWalk where funds were raised for supportive cancer care and participated in the set up, take down, and registration table at the Big Bike Event for Heart and Stroke Fundraising. I have also been a social media editor for WAIL Music Magazine Facebook page to promote local events and musicians since
I mainly did these volunteer service hours during my time in high school and some others in grade school that I can’t quite remember. For my first three years in high school each student had to get a certain amount of service hours. For all three years I chose Merrimac Park for the location I would choose. It was close to me and I went there often. My first year I simply walked around the park and picked up all the trash I spotted. The second year I did this but then I also asked if they would let me help in the park house as well. They said yes so whenever I came I would sweep the floors of both the hallways and the gym. The third year I was once again looking to do a little more so I offered my services as a score board operator for the youth flag football league I had once been a part of at the park. I knew the person in charge of the athletic programs at the park so he agreed. I was even allowed to ref a few games because I know the basic rules having been in the league and also playing football myself in high school. I think that year was my favorite out of the three. I loved cleaning the park but adding on the role to help out the flag football league was a blast. It was something that at the time I was passionate about and had a close tie with. To be able to help was truly an honor and made me glad I was able to volunteer my time at the
I volunteered at the Gonzales City volleyball clinic where I assisted the head coach by helping the young volleyball players learn how to set, serve, hit, and bump. I did this three times a week for three hours each day. The clinic consisted of children from ages 7-14 and each age group went in at different times. Also, I did community service at my local St. Theodore Church by helping in the jumping house at the church carnival. For the past four seasons I helped fundraise at the high school football games by selling food at the stadium snack bar. In every home football game I would stay for more than half of the game in the snack
The first place I volunteered at was Feed My Starving Children. Feed My Starving Children is an organization that makes nutritional meals for malnourished children. The meals are called MannaPacks and they are packed with rice, soy, dried vegetables, and flavoring. Each station has to measure the ingredients into the bags, weight the bag, then seal the bag. My role was sealing the bags and putting them in a box; and I did that for two hours. My volunteering and the volunteering of others really helped out because 27,000 meals were packed in our shift, which feeds 74 kids for a year. The other two hours that I did, I helped the staff clean up and take everything down. I benefited from this experience because I actually felt like I somewhat
Last July my family and I had volunteered at the Forest wood park in Ferguson Missouri. Through the nonprofit organization Convoy of Hope we had filled many bags of groceries to help feed the people of Ferguson. Through this experience I have learned a lot of things about myself such as my aspirations and goals. One day I desire to help many people that are in need. I hope to work for a nonprofit organization one day.
One of the activities that I have done is volunteering. I've volunteered at St. Vincint de Paul by helping them get gifts and collecting food cans for people in need during Christmas time and for the pantry. We also helped out when the church had a festivel this includes enteraining the kids, giving out food, and face painting. I have also volunteered at the Samaritan Women Shelter. In the Samaritan I helped them organize the clothes and sort out donations that people would
I’m currently a volunteer in Project Sunshine organization in New York city. This organization brings recreational, educational and social services to children facing medical challenges and their families by visiting them to their rooms in hospitals. As a member of volunteering team I’m participating
After becoming a member of the National Society for Leadership and Success, I participated in countless hours of volunteer work for my community. One particular event that I always attend is the Raid for Kids. This event is a community Halloween event that provides children with a safer alternative to trick or treating. The event occurs on the University campus during day light hours and is supervised by volunteers and organizers. Later on I joined Habitat for Humanity in Albany, Georgia. Last year we participated in neighborhood clean-up projects. Recently Albany, Georgia had a destructive tornado that wrecked havoc on the city. So after the storm we came together to offer our help to people who were less fortunate than we were. This service
Ever since I can remember, I have had the intense desire to help people. In high school, I joined Kiwanis Key Club and National Honors Society; both organizations allowed me to gain hours of volunteer experience helping families in need within my own community. Both organizations have annual events to benefit our community. At Christmas, Key Club adopts a few families and we buy clothing and toys for the kids. Our efforts to make the holidays a more enjoyable time for the families removed the parents’ burden of having to worry about being able to pay bills after getting presents for their children. Also, National Honors Society holds a blood drive every year in coalition with the American Red Cross. Last year our blood drive was in honor of a little girl in our community with leukemia.
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped with feeding the homeless with IHS HOSA. We went to Costco to buy items to make spaghetti, salad, and desserts. The day before we went to feed the homeless, we made all of the food. Then the day of, we prepared the food to put into containers, and loaded everything into our cars. We drove all around El Centro, parks, Main St., and outside of well known stores such as Target, and stopped whenever we saw someone less fortunate walking.
I have been in multiple leadership positions and enjoy volunteering at different events and organizations. For the last three years, I have volunteered at Camp Hope, Camp Hope is a summer camp where children ranging from five to twelve years of age come and learn about God. I been a support staff and have worked in different groups and rotations. Support staff at responsible for making sure the children stay out of trouble, help injured children, and most importantly make sure the children have an unforgettable
Although my life is filled with many memorable moments, the one that sticks out in my head is my fun filled vacation to Las Vegas. The moment we stepped off the plane, I could feel the energy pouring from all the tourist, who like myself. Plan to have an experience of a life time. Our hotel room was located on the 37th floor of the New York New York hotel. The view from the room was amazing, out of our side window was a view of the infamous New York New York roller coaster. We could even hear the screams of those bold enough to take that ride. While our main view encompassed a large part of the las vegas blvd strip, with MGM being right across the street. It was never a dull moment, each hotel had its share of entertainment line up, from Micheal Jackson look
