My goal in life is to serve and provide help and assistance to those in need. I want to make a difference. I am finishing school in May 2017, and I Believe this is the right path for me.I believe the AmeriCorps program would help broaden my perspective. I want to gain new experience and meet new people with different background. I adapt to the new environment quickly, and I believe this would enhance my abilities. I did not know what I particularly want to do after finishing school, but I believe this is the right path for me to take. I know every leader starts from somewhere, AmeriCorps can help me be a more efficient leader. I want to lead people, and all great leaders are servers.
I am drawn to AmeriCorps because of its commitment to service and matching members to non-profit organizations. I am truly interested in AmeriCorps' service missions including poverty reduction, literacy and youth development, and mentoring. I served as a volunteer helping organize activities for neglected and abused children at the Children’s Advocacy Center, served on a committee for children’s literacy with Better World Books Drive, and volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters and American Red Cross. I am comfortable interacting with youth and children. I have always envisioned myself as a leader involved in improving the health of populations and serving my community and I aim to continue the work of improving the missions of anti-poverty
The simple reason for why I would like to serve with Americorp is because I like helping people. The more complicated reason is that I want to do something meaningful with my gap year. I could easily find a job and work for a year or intern at a company but Americorp offers me the opportunity to do something different. Americorps allows me to work with programs that have wide spread impacts and do a great deal of good. With Americorp I can do service above and beyond anything I have done so far. I have of course, been afforded many opportunities to serve in my community and interact with many individuals from diverse backgrounds over the course of my academic and professional career. Recently, I was able to spend three months interning at
The best role models are those who have been where you are and have made it through what you are going through. Americorps takes young people who are 18-24 years of age and gives them a chance to share their experiences surviving school and their challenges navigating college with students in inner-city communities.
The personal experiences I have had along the way have aided in shaping my character. For example, this year I had the privilege of being elected to the board of my school’s National French Honor Society. Our induction ceremony for new members was taking place and much preparation had to be done in a short amount of time. As a new board member, I took charge and made sure every detail of the ceremony was perfect. From decorations, food, audio and video, I did it all. My teacher and head of the honor society was very impressed by my leadership and “take charge” approach that she appointed me the new President of the French Honor Society for the 2015-2016 school years. That event allowed me to see my true potential as someone who works well with others as a leader, and my ability to work under pressure to achieve results. I have always strived to be the best I can be and excel at whatever task I set out to do. By having the opportunity to attend The United States Naval Academy, it would allow me to continue to challenge myself academically as well as strengthen my leadership and discipline. I would also be honored to serve my country as an officer, giving back to this great country that has been so good to me and my family for generations. All of my life I have been told that I am a very determined individual with a strong presence and desire to lead. It only seems right that I further develop myself
Serving AmeriCorps will allow me to pass the torch of knowledge to empower all that I encounter. My passion is to inspire others to improve their quality of life through higher learning. Specifically, my target audience is low-socioeconomic class citizens within the community. Education has empowered myself and daughters out of unfavorable circumstances. Therefore, I believe all change first begins with the gift of knowledge. Ultimately, I aspire to help others find their way to self-actualization. I hope to encourage others to reach their life goals and dreams. So, I believe AmeriCorps will be an excellent opportunity to use my skills to change lives. Post AmeriCorps I plan to continue to help within the community and abroad to teach others
Ever since I earned my GED, I've been thinking about my and my family's future; which I know I can accomplish with my husband's support. I've come up with three long-term goals that I hope to accomplish within five years.
Ever since I was young, I was exposed to a Historically Black College or University, Jackson State University. I had always went to activities and functions such as football games, summer programs, and other special events. I did not know whether I would attend a historically Black College or University (HBCU) or not at the time. I had finally decided to go to a HBCU, and I would attend Tougaloo College in the fall to further my education. I have many goals and objectives for pursing my educational experience at a historically Black College, and I plan to achieve them.
Leadership Development, and the desire to serve my country are two main reasons that have guided my life towards wanting to attend a service academy. Always having to ability to demonstrate great leadership has been an extraordinary part of my life. I have had the opportunity to meet past graduates, and they showed me how services academies take special pride in developing there cadets into fine young men and women. The United States Military Academy produced several people (ex: Robert E Lee, Ulysses S. Grant) who are not only prodigious leaders, but have had a tremendous impact on the U.S.A itself. Personally, I have always believed that everybody has the duty to serve their country in some sort of way. Being able to attend a Service Academy
Being a part of AmeriCorps would be great opportunity for me, because I've always loved helping people. Both of my parents work in social work, so I've been around people wanting to help other people my whole life.
Life changing experiences through extracurricular activities have given me the opportunity to discover my passion for leadership and service. Prominently my initial experiences while volunteering for Civil Air Patrol have shown me a life dedicated to service is unmeasurably rewarding especially when given the opportunity to lead your peers. Mentoring my followers and learning from their experiences have been so remarkable and rewarding. Deciding to pursue opportunities to lead and serve, the possibility of serving the United States of America as a commissioned officer was perfect. The idea of becoming a professional leader and warrior defending the nation and the ideals behind it would be a dream come true. Seeing the path of an officer fit my goals flawlessly, an education provided by service academy was severely
There is an abundance of citizens already serving in the United States in positions such as the military, the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps, as teachers, firefighters, or in an array of other public-service positions. To top this, demand for national service is high, with significantly more applications submitted for AmeriCorps positions than opportunities.
My academic goal is to graduate Argosy University with a bachelors degree in Forensic Psychology in three years time. Forensic Psychology is the study of the criminal mind, in a nutshell. The main motivation to achieve this goal would be intrinsic. I love asking questions and knowing the answers as to why people do what they do, and in a criminals case, what led them to committing the crime. This goal, however, may have some extrinsic motivation as well. Being knowledgeable about certain behaviors that criminals poses may help solve or even prevent a crime. In addition, having a degree will help open different paths in life, ones that may present me with greater job opportunities. My attitude toward the learning process will help my achievement of each goal because I am eager, determined and motivated. My greatest desire is to succeed in life, and obtaining an education is one thing I know will help me. I perhaps will need to make some adjustments along my journey. I do not know yet if I will find another educational path that intrigues me the most. For now, I do not feel that any adjustments need to be made.
My long-term goal with my college education is to complete my Bachelor's degree and eventually continue on to receive my Master’s degree in criminal justice. The first step to complete my long-term goal is receiving my Associate’s degree in criminal justice by May 2017. This goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
Going to college has been a dream of mine growing up. I am the first ever in my family to go to college but figuring out how to pay for it has been a challenge. I desire to achieve my academic and career goals and this scholarship can help me succeed in my journey.
The future is a time or a period of time in which we follow through from the moment of speaking or writing our intentions. It is a time that has yet still to come. The future is what we work for, to go through school and have a career, in order to have a better life. My parents have taught me to work hard for the things I want, and I wish to have a bright future. That is one of the reasons why I am here at CI, to get an education that will help me find a career with sufficient salary that will support me and my future family.
