My Fitness Pal is a very reliable tool that has helped me track my macro nutrients onto my phone and has helped me lose weight.The app has many features that helped me balance my diet, like the nutrition tab. The nutrition tab shows your calories, nutrients and macros. This is very helpful because it helps me see what i’m eating and allows me to replace things that may not be good for my health. For example, if i’m eating an unhealthy amount of macaroni and cheese it tells me that this food is high in saturated and carbs, it’ll then give me a recommended replacement food that is much healthier, such as a Tomato Soup or a Rice Bowl.

For last week assignment, we were all asked to download three fitness apps of our choice and to monitor our daily physical activity and calorie intake. The three apps I decided to download for this assignment were Myfitnesspal (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/), MyPlate (https://www.livestrong.com /myplate/), and SparkPeople (https://www.sparkpeople.com). In order to use each of these apps, I had to input general information about myself such as height, current weight, weight goal, date of birth, and whether or not if I would like to gain, lose or maintain weight. Having the ability to scan my food barcode made each app easy to use. Out of all three apps, I would say that Myfitnesspal and MyPlate were the easiest apps to figure out. I had a little difficult time using SparkPeople in the beginning. I had a hard time figuring out how to automatically set up my step from my iPhone. Most of these apps were not complete, in order to track my macros or to know what foods rank the highest in nutrients, I would need to pay for premium membership to gain those type of access. However, with each of these apps, I was able to choose a variety of workouts.
As I began this project I saw no purpose of keeping track of all these different things. I proceeded through the project and started to keep track of my intake, macronutrient range, fat breakdown and stage of change reports and I found it quite helpful to keep track of all those things. This project made me ensure that I was on the right path to becoming a healthy human being. I did not realize how unhealthy my eating habits were until this project made me examine that, which was a good thing. I still find it hard to maintain a strict healthy diet while being at college. Sometimes I am forced to deviate from my healthy diet, but this project helps me get back on track.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to track your food for 14 days? I did just that. I believe most of us live on a day to day basis tracking what we eat, how many calories we intake, and so forth. However, sometimes the reward is not at the end of each day; sometimes the reward it is at the end of a lengthened period. Using the My Fitness Pal app on my phone and computer I could effortlessly track what food and nutrients I ate during a 14 day stretch. The app did all the work for me and I highly recommend trying it out. It is very accurate in the amount of each measurement it lists. At the end of 14 days I observed specifically but not restricted to total number of calories, sodium, sugar, and protein and compared each number to the DRI recommended daily intake

Supertracker allowed me to keep up with what I ate all day long and helped me become more aware of the nutritional value of my food and drink selections. I would avoid eating certain foods not only because I knew they were not healthy but I also did not want to record a bad decision on Supertracker. I like that the Supertracker assessment tool did not come up with notifications telling me how bad a certain food choice was and that it gave me the facts without making me feel guilty. However, I did not like that most restaurants were not preprogramed in Supertracker. Most of the time it was as if I was estimating which option was the closest to my meal. Through the use of an online meal planner, Vitabot, I was able to easily keep track of my macronutrient intake and calorie count along with my consumption of essential vitamins and minerals. I was able to download the PDF of the 2010 dietary guidelines and my diet is way off. First of all I do not watch what I eat. I just know that when I am hungry that I eat. And 95% of the time it eat something specific to what I have a taste for. Then I eat alot of it because its so good. But then I wont eat another meal again till the next day. I will a few snacks here and there if I feel hungry through out the rest of the day. I would have to say yes and no to benefiting from tools designed to evaluate and track the quality of your diet over time. I say yes because I need a plan.
