This letter is regarding my financial aid status, which is currently in default. In appealing it is in hopes I may once again receive financial aid assistance in furthering my education. In the past, I have encountered many challenges thus hindering my success as a student. Hopefully, I can offer insight as to why this was so detrimental in my ability to attend college and focus on my academics. Presently, my life has changed significantly since then, allowing myself to overcome the challenges, therefore, more determined that ever to succeed. Over the years I have endured very difficult circumstances. Becoming a mother at a very young age was difficult; In addition, it is during this time I learned of my children’s father’s addiction
In the memoir Beautiful Boy, by David Sheff, we get a glimpse of his son’s addiction to crystal meth. Sheff wrote an amazing story that illustrates how hard it is for a parent to struggle with co-dependency and the natural feelings of wanting to protect your child. This book emphasizes how difficult it is for a parent to stand back and let their children’s life fall apart because of their addictions. Beautiful Boy, shows us many situations that co-dependents struggle with everyday with their loved ones. Some of the themes a co-dependent struggles with are the obsession of the mind, enabling, and feelings of hopelessness.
I am writing to request consideration for an appeal of my financial aid award package for the fall semester 2015. The reason why I have not maintained satisfactory academic progress is because my home life has been been stressful and chaotic at times. I live with my mom it is just the both of us. I have been through traumatic moments with my mom’s mental illness and substance abuse. My mom has been diagnosed with bipolar manic depressive and dealing with medication addiction during the semesters I have been a student at BCC on and off since 2009.

I sincerely hope that this appeal shows that I am dedicated to being a successful student here at the college. Please do not use only my past as a barometer for my success in the future. There have been many steps done over the last year to ensure my success going forward and I firmly believe that I am truly deserving of the lifting of my financial aid
Beautiful Boy, a painful, personal story of the battle he tried to fight with and alongside his son. His book became an international best-seller and made David Sheff one of the country’s most prominent voices on addiction — not as a doctor, an addict or an academic expert, but as a father (Sheff, 2013). I chose this source because it is an article about other treatment options, rather than drug treatment facilities and it speaks about the experience this young man and his parents went through during his addiction. I think this article would be good for my community and for change because it lets others on the outside see what individuals go through with this
I’m sure everyone can relate to that in some way or another - be it an absent parent or even an unhappy marriage. The son’s decision to sell drugs had consequences that affected not only him, but his family members as
Employment, family and friend are seriously at jeopardy when addiction overshadows and become more important. Family suffer tremendously from the neglected due to a family member plagued with this disease. The constant worry for the person’s welfare causes emotional stress that can break down the family structure. Children are the most venerable when a parent suffers with addiction. Child Protected services state approximately 50% to 80% of all child abuse and neglect cases involve some degree of substance abuse by the child’s parents (NIDA, 2000). Babies born with birth defects due to a mother cocaine use during pregnancy is another unfortunate reality (NIDA, 2000). There are over 45,000 cases of cocaine-exposed babies per
My goal is to graduate from the University of Tulsa. For a variety of reasons, I need a ninth semester to complete the course work. I am pursuing an Accounting degree and expect to graduate in Spring 2017. Since I became aware on May 9 that I would not have financial aid, I have spoken to advisors in the Business College, Rick Arrington and Ralph Jackson, my accounting advisor Dr. Miranda and Jean Genske of Financial Aid. Additional conversations were with Dr. Cravens, Dean Sullenberger, and Provost Tanaka. Each conversation brought me closer to understanding the gravity of my predicament.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to review my letter of appeal the $5,080 financial aid Joseph Masri received for the upcoming school year. Though your offer was more than gracious, it is not sufficient for our financial needs. Included in this appeal is additional information that may not have been accounted for in the original application.
To whom it may concern, I have written this letter to you for an appeal to get a late withdrawal on my Summer AE course called Macro Economics. The whole issue is that this was my first year to Dual Enrollment, and I made a mistake on choosing my courses properly. I wanted to have a Summer B course for Macro Economics, but I ended with a Summer AE. I did not know of this mistake until it was too late. Due to unforeseen deaths in my family, I had to travel to other locations and attend multiple funerals within the past month; so I did not have the time, or the mental stability to write you this important letter. If I do get this appeal, I will pay more attention on my class selection and ask more questions so this problem will not occur again.
In this website “ True Story of Addiction”, written Tuesday October 2nd, 2012 exclaims the harsh things that can happen from seeing a family member or friend hurt herself from an addiction and how they caop, so when you get older that’s all you know how to do. This website gives amazing stories of how families and friends go through these struggles to get out of their loved one out of this addiction. Savannah is the one that wrote about herself and told us about her addiction and her struggle and she said, “Both of my parents are active addicts, so it was my mom who got me into it. She’s always acted like a teenager, more like a friend than a mom, and she gave me pills for the first time. I was living with her back then and I started using
When my sister hit her teenage years, she hit a slippery slope of partying and drugs. Our family went through some hardships with Jelly’s drug and alcohol addiction. Jail time, drug rehab, in and out patient; however, my mother and I stood by Jelly’s side through it all. We were working on mending our family wounds when it happened. An old love and drug buddy of my mothers, Jeff, had kept in contact with her over the years. Still a frequent drug user, Jeff somehow convinced my mother to let him move in with us. Jeff was not just a drug addict; he was a thief, a liar, and a woman beater, as we would soon find out.
Drug addiction is a serious issue in not only America today, but globally. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, substance addiction is a “chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite the harmful consequences” (“What is drug addiction?”). Drug abuse affects not only the user, but those around the user as well. The actions of a drug user place a significant amount of worry on the people that are closest to them such as friends and family. Children with parents who are addicted to drugs or alcohol can be severely affected by the actions of their parents which can cause them much harm in terms of biological and
Based on Sara’s family history, she grew up in a low socioeconomic status where her father was addicted to OxyContin after his two knee surgeries and had an older brother who was abusing heroin. In her father’s early 30s, he was diagnosed with depression. By living in a low income area, there is a higher risk of obtaining illegal drugs (Sutin, Evans, & Zonderman, 2013). On the other hand, her mother did not have any information about past drug or alcohol abuse, although, constantly fought with Sara’s father about his addiction. Throughout Sara’s adolescent years, she states how her father has been in and out of rehabilitation facilities and disliked the arguments between her parents. In addition to being in and out of rehab, Sara had a close
First of all, thank you so much for giving me financial aid help for all the semesters and also for taking a moment to read this letter. I understand that my financial aid has been taken away because I didn't meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. The reason I have not met Satisfactory Academic Progress is severe family problem, money and job related issues, and in self fear of being an ESL student.
