“ HELP!HELP!SOMEBODY LIFT THE COUCH!”,my mom screeched for the umpteenth time today. “Why do I even bother trying to relax?”, I ask myself as I dragged my feet into the living room to see what all the commotion was about. As I turned the corner I immediately burst into laughter. My whole family looks at me like I’m crazy. Then I started getting aches in my chest. This moment reminded me of something that happened almost everyday in this house.
This was a lot like the good times when we owned Doug. With him there was never a dull moment in the house. He was small so he always found a way to go under the couch and get stuck whenever we called him from underneath there. That’s exactly what I was laughing at. When I turned the corner our new puppy, Stonie, had her head poked out from under the couch. My mom had a worried look on her face as if Stonie would be crushed by the couch. My step-dad, Corey, was about to lift up the couch, and my two sisters were kneeling on the floor trying to pull Stonie out from under the couch.
I didn’t really want a new dog after having Doug. He was perfect. Too big to fit in a purse, too small to fit a regular dog sweater but, I loved him that way. He always used to sleep in my bed with me. I remember how one time I had a nightmare. I woke up, Doug looking right at me as if he was making sure I was okay. I was grateful to have a dog like Doug but, our time together was short.
The reason we got Doug in the first place was because our previous
By looking at my parents’ gross incomes you’d see that we are a somewhat financially stable family. Because of my parents’ incomes I do not qualify for scholarships such as the Daniels Fund and the Horatio Alger scholarship. But, what these awards don’t take into account is medical need. As you can imagine, a rare vascular malformation isn’t exactly the cheapest disorder to possess. My KTS has provided me with a lifetime of medical need which includes check-ups, possible surgeries, compression garments, etc. My parents have provided me with the best possible health care since I was a child, but unfortunately they do not have the means to help me pay for college. I’ve always known they will not be able to help me pay for college so over the
The word “Family” is a noun and is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary “a group of people consisting of one set of parents and their children, whether living together or not. What is family? Businessman and former Ford president, Lee Iacocca once said, “The only rock I know that stays steady, the only institution I know that works, is the family.” If you stripped away all the glitz and glamour of your life, what would be left? There is only one answer for me, family. Whenever life’s most challenging moments arise and you are brought to your knees, your family will be the rock on which you can stand. Family is everything to me and I would not be the man that I am today without the love and support that my family has unconditionally given to me.
Before we delve into the viability of recycling becoming Puerto Rico’s economy of the future it is imperative to understand the current status of the commonwealth’s economy. Puerto Rico is currently experiencing an economic crisis. In the midst of a 10-year recession, it is now $72 billion in debt. The unemployment rate is currently 11.8 compared to 6.6 in Alaska, which has the highest unemployment rate of any state. The island also has a poverty rate twice that of America’s poorest state, Mississippi. In a CNN Money article titled Why Puerto Rico’s economy is in a ‘death spiral’ by Patrick Gillespie the author explains that despite Puerto Rico having a similar population to that of Connecticut, 3.5 million, it carries the same debt load of New York State, 20 million. Gillespie believes that the problems “stem from massive government overspending, a big dependence on debt and a costly, inefficient energy system. The Puerto Rican government has not been able to grow the economy for years leading to a rise in unemployment, business moving away from the island, and Puerto Ricans moving the United States for employment opportunities. Unlike other islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico imports crude oil to generate electricity for its residents, which results in a very costly process. Other islands are using a combination of solar and wind power, along with natural gas and oil. The introduction of
A couple days later Mathis, our other dog, was very depressed. He had also lost his best friend. There was no more playing, wrestling, and cuddling. Because Mathis was so depressed, we decided to get a new dog. We searched for a new bull dog online, and my sister spotted one she liked. He had neat cow spot like fur with a rolled up tail that looked like a cinnamon roll. We all agreed that we had to get him.
We were so excited because we’ve been asking for a dog for a while. We then asked what was the dog’s name, and she said that his name was Gates. At first I didn’t like that name and wanted us to change it, but then by the next 5 minutes, I really loved that name. We got him in the trunk of our van with big smiles on our faces, and we thanked the lady and our parents over and over again. I then asked the lady "How old is he?" and she responded "14 months," which made me even happier, for he was still a puppy! We then thanked the lady again, and we got into the van. As we were leaving back home I asked my parents "Where are we exactly?" and they said "We are on the outside of Benton." My sisters and I then asked a lot of questions about Gates and how he was going to live with us, the whole way back home. They told us that he was going to be an outside dog, but that since he was kind of an inside and outside dog at his previous owners house, that he could come inside to eat, and that he can sleep inside on the really special holidays like Christmas. When we returned to Conway, we went straight to Wal-Mart, where my parents went inside to shop for a water bowl and toy for Gates to have for the night, until we went shopping for the next day. We stayed inside of the van with Gates, while they went inside. When my parents were on there way back out to the car, I called my dad and told him how Gates, chewed up his leash like it was the best thing that he had ever tasted in the world; this leash was a brand new leash that his previous owner got for us to use with him, so my parents came out to the van and gave us his toy so that he could play with, and they went right back into the store. After, waiting a little while, they finally came back out again with a chained leash, so he couldn’t chew up this
In “For my Mother,” Dr. Jami Huntsinger writes about how her mother lives with Alzheimer’s disease and how her father never gave up on his wife. In this essay, Huntsinger discusses the strong relationship her mother and father shared during this hard time in their lives. Even though Huntsinger’s mother was physically unable speak, she was still able to have full conversations with her loved ones. Huntsinger stated, “She would answer, and I would try to answer with “Really?” Or “No, you’re kidding me, “or “That’s interesting,” all based on patterns of soft or hard sounds.”. All of her doctors wanted to put her on medication, but her husband told them no, that would have been the easy way out and Mr. Huntsinger
We are a family of four: my mom, my dad, my sister and I. Passed down from generation to generation, the values of commitment, respect, and faith have been instilled in my life by my parents. Throughout my childhood, my parents have shaped the way I look at the world by teaching me lessons and guiding me to the right path.
In a few minutes a man emerged from the other room with the most adorable little wonder of nature nestled in his hands. The little guy shook his cream colored body and looked up at us with his bead-like eyes. In the instant that our eyes met, I could see the joy and exhilaration in them. As soon as the man set him down, the puppy ran towards us stumbling on the sleek floor. He started jumping around with joy while I patted him. The way he bounced around made him seem more like a little bunny than a puppy. The little pup had succeeded in winning over mom’s heart. I was jumping with joy when I heard her discussing the paperwork with the manager.
If we talk about Christianity point of view Holy bible lays down “Wives submit yourself into your own husbands as unto the Lord.”
A change in characters happened throughout the novel. At the beginning of the novel, Nath, Lydia’s brother, was doing everything in his power to keep Lydia from being happy. He believed that Lydia was receiving favoritism from their parents, so he got jealous and tried to change this. For example, he knew his younger sister did not know how to swim. However, he pushed his sister into the lake to make her learn how to and to see her struggle because of his harsh feelings towards her. This caused Lydia to almost drown, foreshadowing what caused her death. Then, when he learns of Lydia’s death by drowning, he is extremely affected. He finally becomes concerned, however, at this point, it was too late. He wanted to get to the bottom of her death. There was an investigation to see if she had committed suicide or if she was kidnapped and murdered. To figure this out, at Lydia’s funeral, he found a boy that he thought was taking advantage of Lydia. Nath knew the day before Lydia went missing that she was with her friend Jake. He did not trust him. Nath knew that when the two of them hung out, all they did was smoke. However, he also knew that Jake frequently looked to have sexual relationships with other girls, so he thought that he also tried this with his younger sister. Nath approached him at the funeral and suddenly started questioning him and then punched him. Nath’s actions and feelings about his sister changed because of her death.
The ideal choice would always to be able to have both, but like the famous saying goes, “you can’t have cake and eat it too”. Love is something that will be attained by those close to you, such as relatives and significant others, but respect is something that can be earned by all. To have love without respect, rather, is possessive and unhealthy. In addition, love can also push people act and behave differently than they would normally.
I will tell you how loved ones viewed me and my children during and after. We got married in our early twenties. In retrospect all the signs were there, but because I came from a close, loving family, none of us knew what we were really dealing with. My family and friends couldn’t miss that he was self-absorbed, always the centre of attention, very aware of the effect his witty or acute remarks had on others. Some friends disliked him because of the way he made others look stupid, but my family supported me and we all assumed that deep down, he was caring and loving and this was just a show. My ex was very intelligent, and knew exactly how to play us all. (In their defense - they are also very intelligent, but have simply never had a close encounter with NPD.) I am pretty sure that he made us move away to a city where I had no family, because they would’ve started to see through him soon enough.
Diversity among families is a growing phenomenon in the United States. There are more single parent families and divorce is at an all time high. However, this diversity comes with questions about the state of families in the modern age. People wonder if families are growing more resilient, or if families are in a decline. In addition, people question if children truly need both a mother and a father and if children with absent fathers are at greater risks than their counterparts. This paper will argue in favor and support of these two stances.
Have you ever put your trust, and love in someone’s hands and they betrayed you? Well, I did at just three years old I met my mom's boyfriend, who I would call dad at five years old. Through the first three years of my life, it had always been my mother and me against the whole world. But at three years old a man came into our lives who would change our entire lives whether for the good or for the bad. This man feigned to be a great father to my family, although he was the love of my mother’s life. He was and is still the only Dad I know, the man who showed me how cruel, and heartless someone could be. Through the first years of my life up until I was nine years old I was the happiest and joyful girl in the entire world, filled with the love of a mother and a father. But soon that would change after the man I gave all my trust and love, who promised to protect me from all evil betrayed me by sexually assaulting me at just nine years old. At just nine years old my voice was taken away from me and I became trapped within myself because I did not want to lose the love of my mother. I kept this ongoing assault to myself up until I was fourteen years old. And my whole life changed because not only did I expose a truth that I knew the rest of my family sided with my step-father the “Dad” I knew, the Dad that was supposed to love and care for my mother and me. He was a monster to my mother and me, but an angel to the rest of society. According to my family a responsible, strong,
